Carlos had searched for information about mutants the previous night, and he came across the fact that mutants have perfect memory and excellent adaptation skills. So, if he read these letters out loud to her, Fei should be able to immediately memorize them, right?
Carlos pointed at the paper, motioning Fei to say the letters.
"A.B.C.D.E.F.G.H.I.J.K.L.M.N.O.P.Q.R.S.T.U.V.W.X.Y.Z." Fei repeated, with her voice mimicking Carlos' perfectly.
So it's true! Teaching Fei would be so easy! Carlos thought with enthusiasm. He immediately got up from his seat and removed a book from its shelf. He showed the first page of the book to Fei before reading it aloud. Again, Fei repeated after him with perfect pronunciation. Soon, however, Carlos felt something was off.
"What does 'A gaudy and dazzling dream world filled with murmurs instantly shattered'* mean, Fei?" Carlos asked suspiciously, barely able to pronounce the sentence. If even he didn't know what this sentence meant, so how could Fei?
As expected, Fei shook her head in uncertainty.
"So you didn't actually learn anything at all…," Carlos sulked. He thought about his next steps.
"Fei, look. I am Carlos," he pointed at himself, "you are Fei," he pointed at her.
"Now, who are you?" Carlos asked slowly.
"… You are Fei?" Fei replied with hesitation.
"… No, I am Carlos. YOU are Fei."
Fei nodded and echoed, "No, I am Carlos, you are Fei."
"…"
I… I give up…, thought Carlos with resignation. He pondered for a few moments and decided upon a fresh idea. He whipped out his ultra-phone and tapped its screen. Soon, a clear projection appeared above the ultra-phone; it broadcasted a Language A learning video from the internet.
Carlos gently placed the phone onto the table in front of Fei and used wide gestures to signal her to pay attention to the video. Fei complied and focused on it. Carlos looked around absentmindedly for a moment, before grumbling in annoyance and standing up to head for the doors. How is there no other usable** phone or any kind of device in this room? I gotta tell the servants outside to bring some over.
He looked back to check up on Fei and saw that she was faithfully standing up and preparing to follow him, completely ignoring the projection place in front of her. Carlos frowned. "Fei! Look at the projection! Don't follow me." He pointed at the video screen.
Fei nodded, then shook her head. Whatever, thought Carlos angrily. He continued to act upon his original goal, walking out of the room. Fei followed from afar.
A man in a black suit and his nanny stood rigidly outside the entrance. Both the security guard and the nanny had followed beside the young master of the Rochester family ever since he woke up this morning. The nanny was in charge of his needs while the guard for safety.
"Mrs. Kleinen, can you please get a T-phone or Iset game screen for me?" Carlos asked with large, sparkling eyes. "… Or if you can't get them, any high-tech device is fine," he hesitantly added.
Mrs. Kleinen was a middle-aged woman who became the nanny of the Rochester household two decades ago, when she just graduated from college. She loved children and felt her conscience sway as she looked at the adorable little boy who had his two little hands clasped together.
Oh! How she wanted to say "yes!" But she held in her urge and replied comfortingly, "Carlos dear, I would love to agree, but I can't. Your father instructed that no one is to give you any sort of electronic device except those for learning. You know that very well, don't you? He told you before he left."
Carlos grimaced. He thought quickly and came up with a new ruse. He hoped at least this would work. His eyes were brimmed with tears, ready to fall. "T-then… Can you please get a learning device from my room? I want the one that's on my nightstand," Carlos asked pitifully.
"Carlos, if you want a learning device, there are quite a few in the lounge, do you want me to show you where they are? They all have very interesting content." Mrs. Kleinen coaxed, trying to remain levelheaded against Carlos' sharp weapons that took form as his tears and adorableness.
She knew that the learning device that Carlos was talking about was personally constructed by Carol, who doted on her brother dreadfully. And Carol also happens to be a terrifying genius in IT. Carlos would always get very excited whenever that device was mentioned, and he even hugged it while sleeping.
This made it very suspicious.
Carlos, whose plan completely sunk underwater, puffed up his cheeks and said with indignation, "No need." He stomped back into the room.
His nanny smiled as she watched the young master with affection. Out of the three children, she liked Carlos the most. He expressed all of his thoughts on his face, like an open book. Very easy to please and also very cute.
The second child, Carol, had a bad temper and even as a child, threw terrible tantrums. She was often compared with her 'prodigy' sister, five years older, even though Mrs. Kleinen felt that Carol was far more prodigious. The nanny always thought it was because she lacked affection from her family that she became very unsociable and a bit twisted. It was only after Carlos' birth that she got better.
At least Carol could still be considered a child when she was young, albeit one that is more pitiful. The other daughter… that is the frightening one. Mrs. Kleinen shivered as she recalled her memories.
The first child, Eyrie, was very scary. She often lacked expression as a toddler, staring into space. She never cried nor showed any interest in life as a whole. As a "prodigy" early teen, she was depressed and often woke up screaming due to nightmares at night. Everyone else agreed that Eyrie is a one of a kind of prodigy; but instead of prodigious, Mrs. Kleinen thought a more fitting term for her would be…
... prophetic.
In fear of offending the gods, the nanny did not dare to think anymore.
