Hitoshi Shinso watched Olivia, or Star he could now call her he guessed, sprint off the field and felt his heart clench for her. Him and Mashirao watched sadly as she ran, knowing there was nothing they could do with the next event being announced in a few minutes. Bakugo watched in shock as she ripped her arm from his grasp, and went to follow after her.
Hitoshi stepped in front of him to block him off, his lip curling. No one upsets his friend. Not even the Hot-Shot.
"What, didn't get first place and decided to take it out on someone you thought wasn't trying as hard as you?" He sneered, enjoying getting under his skin. "Did mister ego maniac finally realize that everyone is trying to be a hero in their own way? In different ways that don't only not fit your definition, like Olivia, but also might just be better, like Midoriya? Don't think I missed those tears on her face, Hot-Shot, 'cuz I can guarantee you no one else did when they were shown on screen to the entire nation-"
"SHUT UP YOU DAMN VILLAIN-" Bakugo yelled, lunging for him. He stopped short though, going blank.
Hitoshi smirked wickedly and adjusted his control like Aizawa had taught him. Bakugo needed to remember these words, to really listen. Mashirao put a hand on his shoulder warningly, but he shrugged him off.
"If you think for a second that your way is the only way to become a hero, I hope that Midoriya winning really did mess you up as much as it looks like it did. We are all on our own paths to becoming heros, myself and Olivia included. I've dealt with people like you, Hot-Shot. Who take their insecurities out on the people who dare to defy your expectations for them. She risked enough just to stand here today, proving her dedication to becoming a hero, and we all just saw the consequences."
He continued, "So get over yourself. Recognize that just because she doesn't fit into your particular brand of hero, doesn't mean she isn't one. And just because I wasn't blessed with a flashy hero quirk like you, doesn't mean I can't be a hero. Someone as small minded as you doesn't get to decide what makes a hero and what doesn't." Hitoshi could see Bakugo fighting against the control, surprising him. Not that it mattered. Hitoshi was longing to find a flaw in his control as well after the incident.
"This competition isn't about being the best. It's about becoming the best. And we are nothing without our teammates, as I'm sure you'll find out soon." Hitoshi growled out the words, angry at being called a villain.
This is why he was here, because of people like Bakugo who were born blessed with a hero quirk. Who thought they didn't need anyone, that they could take on the world alone. He had thought that too, until he was taken from his own doorstep in under a second. Until he had needed Mashirao to return there with him after the incident. Until Star had shown up at his door just as broken as he was. They had made him realize that he didn't have to walk this path alone. The only way to handle the devastation caused in this world of quirks, was together.
Katsuki Bakugo would soon find this out, Hitoshi was sure. Villains don't care if you get first in a Sports Festival. Getting first place wouldn't make Bakugo immune to their evil. One day, he'll find that his ego and quirk aren't enough, and he'll realize that he needs his teammates just as much as they need him.
As he walked off, Mashiriao walking beside him, he released the moron. Mashirao put a comforting hand on his shoulder, and Hitoshi gave a small half smile back. He was satisfied not only that he was able to release his control that time, but also that he seemed to have shut the Hot-Shot up, with no yells or explosions going off behind them. He hoped that meant he was actually giving thought to what he had said… but wasn't counting on it.
Midnight announced the next task to be a cavalry battle, and Hitoshi smirked. Man, his point was really going to hit home with the explosive hero now. Perfect. If Bakugo was going to be in Olive's life, which Hitoshi knew from her blushes that the guy would be, he needed to be taken down a peg first.
Hitoshi started thinking of his own strategy as Midnight explained the task. He had to take his own advice on this one. The first round was to show how your quirk could be used to help yourself. If he made it to the next round, he would be able to show off how his quirk could be used against villains. This was the round that showed how it helped your teammates…
His eyes landed on Aoyama. Someone in Class 1-A, meaning he obviously had potential, but had still come in 42nd place and barely made it through. If he was able to show that his quirk could take a student in last place to the final event, it would be a perfect showcasing of his quirk's other uses.
Obviously there was something mentally holding the nervous guy back. Was it the crowd? Was it who was watching? Something else? Actually, he did look kind of sick… His quirk? Either way, he knew what he had to do. He casually walked over, hands in his pockets, as Mashirao approached someone in Class 1-B.
"Hey, you're in Class 1-A, right?"
"Moi? Why yes~" The blonde responded elegantly, before cringing and holding his stomach.
"Mm… So, it's your quirk that's holding you back?"
Aoyama's eyes widened at Hitoshi, telling him he was correct.
"I can help with that. I can erase your fear and stomach pain by controlling you with my quirk, helping you while showing mine off to the spectators. A win-win, you could say. So, join me." Hitoshi offered, reaching out his hand as if he was offering him the world. Which, in a way, he was. It would be a good debut for both of them. Mashirao came up behind them, followed by the student he had been talking to.
"You… you can~?" Aoyama's eye's shined brightly in joy, "Oui! I'm always ready to shine~!"
Mashirao chuckled as Aoyama's eyes went willingly blank. "Good job Hitoshi, that was a smart deal. I grabbed someone as well, if you don't mind. This is Shoda, he has an impact quirk."
He gestured behind him at the Class 1-B student, who gave them a thumbs up.
"Hitoshi can be the rider, and control any enemy who comes close. I'll be our movement. Aoyama our range, and Shoda can be our defense."
It really was brilliant. They'd get attention already from having people from three different classes working together. You never know who you'll have to team up with in the hero world. This proved they were all four capable of putting aside differences and working together. It would give them some points with the Pro Heroes.
Hitoshi nodded. Time to show the Pros just what his quirk could do. Not only its ability to capture villains, but its ability to help his teammates as well…
Time to be a hero.
