As Star Skyline walked to class, she closed her eyes and let the rain kiss her skin.
She hadn't brought an umbrella, despite seeing the weather outside her balcony window. In fact, she hadn't wanted to, to be honest. The rain felt cold on her warm face, and gave her a feeling she couldn't describe. It was like something inside of her was being cleansed, or washed away. But the cut she hid under her blazer served to remind her that wasn't the case.
She had tried to remember what happened that night, as officers swarmed the building the next morning and Aizawa talked to her with the principal. She really had. All she remembered was waking up to Bakugo. He and Hagakure had been able to fill in some of the blanks for the officers, but no one had been able to explain the needle track in the crook of her elbow.
She rubbed it self-consciously, furrowing her eyebrows. A hand rested over hers, moving it away from the puncture mark. Tilting her head back down and opening her eyes, Star saw Mina looking back at her gently, pulling her under her umbrella.
Mina had also talked to the police, having seen the guy hand her the drink. Star could hear her guilt clearly, and was thankful when the usually talkative woman stayed silent.
Mashirao had insisted on walking with her from the dorms to school, and Hitoshi had walked over before they left to join them. That was normal, of course. Star would've even expected it if they had found out about the Hero Killer.
Turns out that keeping the killer a secret did nothing to prevent Mashirao from acting like a bodyguard, seeing as fate decided that being kidnapped for a week and having a raging psychopath after your father wasn't punishment enough. Star allowed it though, knowing that it made Mashirao feel better.
She still wasn't sure if she should tell them about the Hero Killer. He was after her father anyway. There was nothing they could do but worry. And after last night especially, she seemed to be worrying them enough lately.
What was unusual though, was Bakugo. He was the most concerned about her loss of memory, even though he had expected it. Having seen the person in action, he seemed the most tense of them all as well. He had insisted on joining them on the way to class, giving Mashirao a doubtful look at the idea of him protecting her that the noble guy pretended not to see.
Of course, because Bakugo was there, so was Kirishima. And since Kirishima was there, so was Mina. Star was thankful for it though. She had already been jumpy after leaving the police station, and hadn't wanted to admit that walking alone scared her, even if they were on campus. Mina, surprisingly, had been the biggest help though.
She had pulled Star aside, avoiding Mashirao and Bakugo's watchful gaze. The second she had touched her, Star had heard what was on her mind. Mina had been through something similar once, only it was due to the effect of a quirk. Star didn't want to think about the details, shaking it from her mind. But Mina seemed to know exactly how Star felt, despite not having a mind reading quirk, and had said all the things she didn't know she needed to hear.
She stayed under Mina's arm and umbrella, taking comfort in the reassuring and positive undertones of her mind. As they entered the UA building, Hitoshi sent them a salute, heading a different way.
Momo and Todoroki were talking quietly by the classroom door, and sent her a smile and a nod respectively before they walked into the classroom. Mina, Star, Kirishima, Bakugo, and Mashirao followed in after, taking their respective seats.
As Aizawa walked in, he greeted them tiredly. He didn't seem to get much sleep yesterday with the investigation going on, and Star couldn't help but feel bad. Mina looked over at her as Star's expression changed, and gave her a reassuring smile.
Sometimes, Star really wasn't sure which one of them had the mind reading quirk. Mina seemed to have a naturally high EQ and understanding of others. Star couldn't help but admire it, knowing she wouldn't have the same instincts without her quirk advantage.
"Our class today is on Hero Informatics." Aizawa said, beginning class.
Star mentally heard the collective 'oh no' echo around her. Kaminari was worried about a pop quiz, and Kirishima dreaded that it was about hero laws. She glanced at him as she mentally agreed. Coming from America, she had no idea what the hero laws here were. Hearing Aizawa mentally before he spoke out loud though, she felt relief, and a different anxiety flooded her.
"You need codenames, hero identities."
Most of the class breathed in relief, immediately chattering amongst themselves.
Irritated, Aizawa activated his quirk for a second, before saying, "This is because of the Pro Hero draft picks I mentioned in the last class we were in together."
Everyone listened with rapt attention.
"Normally, Pros don't show interest until your second or third year in college. So they are basically investing in you. This means you'll have to continue to hold their interest, even after they've extended an offer."
"Here are the totals for those of you who got offers." Using a remote, Aizawa put the totals up on a screen.
