Captain Oblivious 2

Katsuki blanched, turning to face her. "That's your dad? That's the number two Pro Hero in America? He looks like a goddamn knock-off All Might!"

Her eyes didn't leave her father as she struggled to speak, her voice raising an octave. "D-don't say that! He does not!"

Katsuki eyed the towering man approaching them skeptically. "I know All Might's costumes, Red. Trust me, he does."

And he really did. The guy's hero costume was a blue skin-tight bodysuit that cut off at his knees and halfway up his upper arms with yellow trims and a red star stamped onto his chest. The only real differences were the matching shin-pads and shoulder-pads, the long red cape, and the dark blue-tinted visor. To put it lightly, Katsuki wasn't impressed.

"Shhh!" She panicked, tugging her hand out of his. "He'll hear you-"

The booming voice cut through their conversation, seeming to fill the air around them. "All Might, you say? What's so great about him anyway? You're standing in the presence of a real celebrity!"

There are very few people that didn't annoy Katsuki from the second he met them. In fact, aside from Kirishima and Freckles here, the vast majority of them he didn't bother giving his attention to at all. But there were always a few, like that copycat Class 1-B extra, that really just pissed him off the second they opened their damn mouths.

And top hero or not, this idiot just made the list.

Katsuki scowled, eyes narrowed at the adult towering over him. "And just who the hell are you anyway?"

Red winced, and the star spangled banner man's face briefly darkened before his smile returned. But Katsuki didn't miss how the guy's eye twitched. "Why, Captain Celebrity of course! I'm an American Top-Ranked hero! But of course you already knew that! Ha, kids these days!"

Katsuki's own eye twitched. "...Heh…?!" His hand started smoking as his anger peaked. "What did you call me?! You star spangled-"

Before he could let off an explosion in his anger, he felt dainty fingers forcefully intertwine with his and pull his arm back down in between them. He forced his quirk to stop before it ripped her skin apart, and looked over to the boundary-less redheaded menace with a scowl on his face, realizing she had done it on purpose.

She wasn't looking back at him though, her gaze still locked on her father. The smile on her lips was welcoming, but Katsuki didn't miss the tension in her shoulders, or how her grip on his hand tightened slightly. "Hey Dad! What a surprise! I didn't know you'd be coming here!"

Captain Celebrity shook his head, still grinning. "Have you not been keeping up with the tabloids? I did a press meeting when my plane arrived!" There was an edge to his voice that didn't quite match his beaming expression.

Red kept her voice even, still not looking away as she smiled. "A phone call within the past year would've been nice." Her words didn't match her tone either, and it wasn't until Katsuki looked over the Pro Hero's shoulder that he realized what was going on.

There were cameras everywhere. Not even close to the normal amount for a random encounter with a hero in a public place. For a second he wondered if the pristine and too perfectly put together man in front of him had set this up, and when he felt a squeeze on his hand and looked over to see Red subtly nodding, he realized he had.

Captain Celebrity's booming laugh filled the air, drawing even more attention in the crowded area. Ignoring her passive aggressive comment, he stood behind them to face the cameras and clasped them both on the shoulder. Red's hand instinctively left his to reach towards her wound, and Katsuki felt the urge to send a blast towards the seemingly oblivious man. For her credit though, her smile didn't falter and her hand twitched back to her side.

"-and his name is Mr. Christopher Skyline, aka Captain Celebrity! Earlier today the American Hero announced that he would continue performing hero work right here in Japan! And here we see him with the winner of UA's Sports Festival and his daughter who is also attending the esteemed college-"

Katsuki tuned out the reporters as the 'celebrity' walked them towards the flashy car, scowling as he felt the man's grip tighten slightly on his shoulder. He wasn't a damn puppet, and all the flashing lights were annoying the hell out of him. Finally they got to the car, and the idiot made a show of taking the bags from him and opening their doors. Red got in without looking at the reporters, her smile unwavering, and he reluctantly got in as well, eye twitching in annoyance. When Captain Idiot closed the door behind them, Red's smile dropped, and she started twirling her hair nervously. Captain Oblivious slid into the driver's seat of the sports car and started the engine.

"What the actual fuck was that all about-" Katsuki scowled at Red as she put her hand over his mouth, smelling the faint nitroglycern scent that lingered on her palms from earlier.

"So why are you here, Dad? I'm sorry if there were rumors in America after the Sports Festival, but you really could've just called..." She asked in English, taking her hand off of his mouth when she felt his annoyance spike. Thank god, he didn't need the struggle of monitoring his reaction to her soft fingers on his lips. What was he, a teenager?

Skyline senior laughed again as if he didn't have a care in the world, and started speaking to her in English as well. "At first I was upset about the rumors, sure! I don't know why you would choose to go by your middle name, but- oh!" His eyes went to his rear view mirror and he stared sternly into the back seat. "You will be dying your hair back by the way, I don't know what you were thinking. How is anyone supposed to recognize you like that? I've already set up an appointment though, don't worry!" He let out a sigh of disapproval. "When you go around playing hero, it really adds more to my workload, kiddo."

Heh??? Is this guy serious?? The Pro Hero considers being in the best hero training course in Japan to be 'playing hero'?! It was a conscious effort for Katsuki to keep his hands from smoking in the enclosed space, knowing how fucked he would be if he burnt the interior. Red didn't look much better off, hand raising slightly to twirl her hair again. Now that he really looked at her, he noticed that there was maybe half an inch of a lighter color at her roots now. Shit, he wasn't sure he wanted her to dye her hair back to whatever it was before. She wouldn't be little Red anymore if she did. By the looks of it, she didn't want to either, but surprisingly she stayed quiet.

Captain Crunch continued, oblivious to the two students in his back seat. "The rumors about you and the kid here dating were a surprise, but then I realized you truly are my daughter! Getting press with the champion of the Sports Festival before anyone else! I've taught you well!"

He sounded almost loving as he spoke, or maybe proud. Katsuki remembered what he was talking about, but hadn't been aware it had actually leaked in America. Those annoying ass cheerleaders he had come across when looking for her had probably posted the pictures they had taken. It obviously wasn't a set up, the woman next to him wears her emotions on her damn sleeve when she's drunk-

...What a fucking second. 'The kid here'? No wonder he was talking so casually! Did this moron really think he only spoke Japanese?!

"...HEH?! …'KID'?! I CAN UNDERSTAND ENGLISH TOO, YOU DAMN BASTARD!" Katsuki roared, not caring about the firecrackers on his hands anymore. This had to be the most annoyed he's been since… fuck, probably since the first hero training against fucking Deku! If Captain Shithead didn't want him to hear, why teh fuck didn't he just talk to Star in his head like Icyhot does?! Fucking dumbass.

The car swerved suddenly in her father's surprise, and Red gave him an actual smile as she laughed. The chick already knew he understood English. Maybe that's why she was so quiet after asking the question. Letting her old man dig himself into a hole. How conniving. When it wasn't him she was trying to trick or sneak alcohol past, it was actually pretty hot.

Relaxing in her seat, her chuckles died down as she responded to his inner monologue. "I can't read his mind." She explained to him, and before he had time to process that bombshell, she turned to her dad and put on a guilty smile. "Sorry Dad, forgot he spoke it!"

Well that was a lie. She knew damn well he spoke it. Hell, she had spoken it with him only a few days ago in front of Endeavor. Her face didn't even twitch as she said it though. Had she always been able to lie like that? Now that he thought about it, he had never seen her directly lie before, even on the first day they met. She had simply avoided or half answered questions about her drinking instead of lying. When had this started, then? This week? After the party? After Stain? Just now?

"It's alright Starry, we all make mistakes." Captain Bullshit coughed, avoiding Katsuki's eyes in the mirror. A moment passed, and Skyline Senior's eyebrows furrowed in confusion before rising to meet Katsuki's eyes in the reflection. Red stiffened slightly next to him, and Katsuki felt like he was missing something. What was the guy's quirk again? Was it mental like Red's?

"The light's green, Dad." Red spoke up, not taking her eyes off of her father as she subtly put a hand on Katsuki's arm.

Clearing his throat, Captain Moron put on his wide grin as the car moved forward. "Why yes it is!"

What the hell was that?

Feeling a squeeze on his arm, Red slightly shook her head at him.

"You can drop us off here Dad, our dorms aren't far. Thanks for the ride." She smiled, unbuckling her seatbelt.

The car came to a stop, and Captain Whatever put his arm on the empty seat next to him, turning around to face them. "Your appointment is next Monday at 6 PM. I'll send a driver to pick you up. I'll see both you kids around!"

The guy chuckled as he said the last part, as if he knew something they didn't. Red's lip twitched slightly, but it was gone just as quickly, and she nodded as she opened the door.

This time when Red grabbed her bag out of the trunk, he didn't say anything about it. She looked too distracted to argue with anyway.

And as they turned away and walked up to the dorms, Katsuki was thankful he'd never have to see that damn fake ever again.
