It was a drafty Thursday morning when Jack and his two sisters were sitting at the dining room table in their 47-year-old farmhouse. Jack's birthday was only 2 days, and there was only one thing he wanted… A phone. Jack's mother, Mary May, Walked into the house from her daily stall cleaning. "Hello, kiddos! Ready for a hearty southern breakfast?" She said with that loud but sweet voice she has. "Um mom, we have to get to school in 15 minutes. I doubt we have time for such a big yummy meal!" Lisa (his older sister) said as she laughed quietly. His mother snorted and pulled out some bowls and oatmeal. "Mom?" Jack finally said. "Yes, sugar?"
"Can I have a phone for my birthday?"
Mary stared at him for a long minute then said: "I don't know honey them phones be distracted a lot of teens nowadays." Jack began to beg, " I can handle it, mom, please??? All the kids in school have one and I am the only one who doesn't! Even Fred has one!" With hardly a breath Mary responded " Fred hardly uses his phone! His mother told me personally that football is much more important to him than textin' on a smart screen." That was her nice way of saying no, but Jack was not giving up. " Please, mom please?" Mary stopped and looked again then said "we'll see"
