Chapter 9: The Final ‘Woof-Woof’ Version of the Design Sketch

"Hurry, hurry... Gather everyone here, we need to hold a meeting."

After the manager of the design department received the call, he hurriedly told his office clerk to inform all of his employees.

Very quickly, the eight members of the design department were all gathered inside the manager's office.

He then announced, "This will just be a short meeting. Our company received an order from a 'big' client and these are his design requirements. Take a look at the requirements and start designing immediately, the client is still waiting."

The design manager told his employees about the few requirements which An Wen had previously requested.

"Manager? Are you sure that these are the client's requirements and not the production department making a joke out of us?"

"Yeah, manager, who is this insane person who has such requirements for a temporary modular unit?"

"Is this a joke? We are a company selling temporary modular units, not an architectural design company."

Upon hearing his employees' remarks, the design manager also nodded his head in agreement.

However, he had already checked repeatedly.

It was a legitimate request.

"Well, I understand where everyone is coming from, but our very important client is still in the reception room waiting for us to come up with a design."

"Although we are not officially architectural designers, the client has the money and so his requests are tasks which we must complete."

"Alright, enough complaining! It's time to get moving. Hurry, get back to work and complete a design sketch as quickly as possible."

Hearing what their manager said, the employees each had helpless looks on their faces.

What choice did they have, since their rich and important client had made such requests?

Given that they could not reject the requests, they could only embrace the situation.

The group then began racking their brains as they created a design based on An Wen's requirements.

When they designed buildings in the past, they always designed them by considering the ease of joining individual units and the ease of construction.

As a result, the designs of the buildings were typically not aesthetic.

However, if they were allowed to freely demonstrate their creativity, it was not impossible for them to design an aesthetic building, especially when there was sufficient money involved.

On the other hand, as part of their hospitality, An Wen was having a meal with Manager Yuan and two other department managers, in a large hotel that was located not far away from the company.

Why did the company accept his bizarre requests?

Why did they treat him with such great hospitality?

Such questions should not be asked - the answer would simply be that he had utilized his extraordinary ability.

"Mr. An, the sweet and sour fish they serve here is extremely unique and delicious, have a try."

"Here, Mr. An, I'll pick a piece for you."

The managers were extremely cordial towards An Wen, and he did not turn down their warm hospitality.

After all, he was their rich and important client.

He was no stranger to such hospitality and was already used to it.

Taking a bite of the sweet and sour fish, An Wen nodded in satisfaction.

Indeed, the sweet and sour fish was truly unique. The sweetness and sourness of the dish mixed together well in the mouth and created a tasty sensation. The control of the heat when cooking was perfect, so the fish was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside.

"Not bad, their sweet and sour fish is good indeed."

An Wen gave a complement after he took a bite of the fish.

"That's great, it's great that it suits your taste, Mr. An."

Seeing their rich client satisfied, the two department managers were elated.

After all, competition in the industry had been stiff in recent times. Especially for a company like theirs which did not require much specialized technical skills, it was not easy for them to receive large orders.

Now that they finally managed to meet a fool -- no, a wealthy client with a great taste, they certainly had to treasure the opportunity.

Nonetheless, An Wen did not have any special requests.

If he had any special requests, be it drinking or going to the club, they would surely arrange everything for him accordingly.

At half-past twelve, they finished their lunch and returned to the company.

An Wen sat on the sofa to take a rest as he drank a cup of tea and played games.

He had formed a team in the game with Manager Yuan and the two receptionists.

Since there were four people, they played Game for Peace.

"Mr. An, I picked up a Level 3 Head, I'll send it over to you now."

"Mr. An, there is an enemy there but we have no cover. We will walk in front of you to act as your human shield, so you will remain protected."

"Mr. An, there is an enemy upstairs, I'll throw a grenade and die together with him."

After one round, An Wen was ranked in 18th place.

The other three teammates were just too inexperienced, so even though An Wen was skilled at the game, he could not do well.

Nonetheless, it did not matter. It was a game and all that was important was to have fun.

When An Wen played with a young lady in the past, she did not provide such excellent service.

It was how a rich and important client should be treated.

They played two rounds of the game.

At that juncture, the design department finally completed the design sketch of the exterior of the temporary modular unit.

They had not redesigned the interior structure of the unit; after all, it was not a particularly easy task to come up with a design sketch.

However, at the very least, they had to confirm the exterior appearance of the unit before they designed the interior. Otherwise, if the exterior appearance was rejected, they would have to restart from the beginning, no matter how well the pipelines and the other components of the interior structure were designed.

"Mr. An, this is the design sketch from the design department, based on your requirements. Are there any areas that you want to change?"

An Wen took the sketch and began nitpicking the details.

The sketch was designed completely according to what An Wen had requested. It was very modern, and it felt like it was taken out of a science fiction story.

Unfortunately, An Wen was not satisfied.

As he reviewed the sketch, he remembered that he had come across science fiction wallpapers that looked similar to the appearance of the building in the design sketch.

"No, this is not new and creative at all. Not every sci-fi-styled building is made completely of curves and arcs. Simply installing several LED lights on the wall does not give it a sense of technology."

"This design sketch is not very new and creative. This is simply hasty work and I am extremely dissatisfied. Get them to redesign another sketch that is more creative."

The initial design sketch was instantly rejected by An Wen.

Even though he was wealthy, his money did not fall from the sky and he was not about to spend it so easily.

There was no such thing as 'easy money' in today's world.

Simply making slight modifications to designs of sci-fi-styled buildings available on the internet and then calling it your own design sketch was not going to make the mark.

If it was that easy, anyone who knew how to surf the internet would be a master designer.

"Alright, I'll bring it back and get them to redesign it."

Manager Yuan immediately appeased An Wen upon seeing that he was slightly angry.

An Wen then responded hastily, "It's 1 p.m. now. I have something going on at 1.40 p.m., so you have until then to show me a decent design sketch. Otherwise, there is no room for further discussions."

"Yes, yes, please be assured. We will certainly come up with a design sketch based on your orders." Manager Yuan replied with a calm demeanor.

While the design department redesigned the exterior appearance of the building, An Wen continued playing games.

For some reason, the design department came up with a new sketch very quickly this time around - perhaps they were being pressured.

After An Wen had finished one round of the game, barely 20 minutes had passed, and they showed him a new design sketch of the exterior.

It was also an edited design sketch.

The edited design sketch was somewhat decent, and at the least, there were creative elements which were not copied off the internet.

The entire factory building was shaped like a science fiction luxury yacht. Its two opposing walls resemble waves as the 'yacht' sailed through rough waters, and the main door was located on the platform at the back of the 'yacht'.

On the other hand, the cockpit of the 'yacht' was located at the very top of the factory building, which was designed to house the office, the switchroom, and a small, isolated working space.

The top of the factory building was equivalent to the second level of the 'yacht', which was also the area that had the most science fiction feel to it.

It was an area that was designed as a resting room and for people to live in.

An Wen then answered, "Mmm, this design is not too bad, but the hull of the ship needs to be polished up slightly. Over here, and over here, the lines need to be gentler. Get them to edit it slightly."

"Alright, I will inform them now." Manager Yuan replied calmly once again.

Five minutes later, the second edited version of the design sketch was completed.

"Mmm, this looks much better, but the waves making up the walls look slightly unnatural. Get them to edit this slightly and it should be good."

Soonly, the perfect edited version of the design sketch was completed.

"Mmm, this is much more natural, but I feel that the front of the yacht looks slightly empty. Could some ornamental elements be added to it? Get them to give it a try, but it is fine if that is not possible."

After another short period, the final, perfect edited version of the design sketch was completed...

"This ornament element which looks like a car spoiler looks decent, but ask them if they are able to change it to the tail fin of an airplane or spaceship."

The final, 'no-more-edits' version of the design sketch was completed...

"Eh... What do you think about adding something here?"

The final, 'no-more-edits-even-if-you-punch-me' version of the design sketch was completed...

"It does not look nice, I think it'll be better without the addition. Something should be added onto the 'waves' then."

The final, 'no-more-edits-even-if-you-punch-me, I-am-a-dog-if-I-edit-it' version of the design sketch was completed...

"Forget it, I think the previous design is still better, but the main door should have a more science fiction feel to it."

The final, 'woof-woof' version of the design sketch was finally completed...

"Great, this shall be the finalized design."
