I threw the punch with speed and strength that didn't seem human, my muscles obscenely bulging as my fist blurred through the air at the mid-air girl.
Just as I was about to hit her, she disappeared and I hit nothing but air.
Falling to the ground, I instantly felt a pit form in my stomach as my instincts screamed at me to move, so I did. I grabbed Issei, who was right in front of me, and I pulled him up onto my shoulder before dashing out of the way. Issei groaned in pain but that was good. It showed that he was still alive.
My instincts proved to be correct as an explosion of light went off just behind us. The blast threw my forward, lifting me off my feet, though I somehow found my feet just in time and didn't collape to the floor.
Spinning around, I looked to the 'girl' just in time to hear her speak the most confusing words, "As expected of someone with the blood of two heroes flowing through his veins. I can see why Azazel wants you removed. Especially with that Gremory bitch sneaking around and watching you," she spat those words with disgust I didn't think possible.
"Blood of two heroes? What?" I said with a genuinely confused feeling brewing inside of me. And what does she mean by Gremory bitch?...Could she mean Gremory-senpai? What does she have to do with all this?
The girl just scoffed before raising her hand, "I don't need to tell anything to a dead person," she said and as quick as I could, I threw Issei to the side and myself in the opposite direction. He landed in some bushes, the lucky bastard, but I was still in sight of this crow girl or whatever she is. At least the light spear she conjured flew past me, and I had a clear shot at her.
Turning toward her, I broke out in a sprint, using the weird power my body seemed to have to the best of my ability. She lifted her hand and fired a spear so quickly I barely had any time to get my torso out of the way. But I couldn't completely dodge it.
The spear went through my extended arm, leaving a round-ish hold in my bicep. The arm instantly seized up and I had to bite my tongue to not scream from the pain...but something told me I'd experienced worse before. That this pain was nothing.
Which was absurd. This felt like hell.
But that reassurance that this was nothing once again came to my mind. The reassurance came with another thing; the more disadvantaged I am, the better I will fight. It felt like I'd done this before. That I'd gone up against the odds and won more than you'd think.
This was all so confusing. How could I possibly have these feelings? Where were those instincts coming from as well? What's happening--
I was cut off...by a voice inside my head. I'd truly lost it.
[I assure you, you're still sane, kid. Now summon me!] the calm yet rugged voice beseeched me to do this...but I had no clue how. The entire area around me seemed to have slowed down to a crawl, even my running and movement were like a snails and the second light spear heading to me was moving at a similar speed.
(A/N - When Leo talks to his Sacred Gear spirit, I'll be putting ' ' around his speech to show it's not being spoken but thought.)
'But how--Wait up, who the hell are you?!' I shouted mentally, the absurdity of this situation really grating me for some reason, 'And how do I know you aren't just some voice inside my head? That I've gone crazy after seeing a girl grow fucking crow wings?!' all I got in reply for my outburst was a deep chuckle than quickly spiralled into raucous laughter.
[Hahahahaha! I truly have gained a funny host this time around!] the rugged voice seemed to have lost all calm before he continued, [Now, listen up! Because I'm only gonna repeat this once!] he roared in my head and I felt my vision go blurry for a moment, [You're the combination of two heroes, kid! You're not living up to your full potential right now but you should still have enough strength to wield me semi-efficiently! So...think of the strongest thing you can! Think of it and then let it explode out of you! Summon me!] the roar of the being shook my mind and my mind instantly went to most powerful thing I could think.
I don't know why I was following the instructions of a voice inside my head...but again, my instincts told me it was the right thing to do.
Thinking, I soon found the strongest thing. A supernova. Destruction for light-years around where the Sun explodes. One of the most destructive forces in the universe and the main way of having Black Holes, the only force above the destructive ability of a Supernova. If a Supernova were to go off less than 30 light-years away from Earth, it'll still cause a mass exctinction event on Earth.
Supernovas were power given form. Explosive power that ravaged entire Solar Systems.
The very thought caused a burning in the center of my chest. That burning quickly became an inferno. The inferno whirled and roared before spilling outward, filling my body like water entering a jar.
The mysterious power spread to my arms and legs before a flash of light appeared on my limbs. Up until my elbow on my arms and up just above my knees on my legs.
Time, still frozen to a snail's pace by something, hadn't even passed a second or two and yet the light slowly chipped and cracked before finally falling away revealing what was underneath it.
Golden armor. Or rather golden gauntlets and golden boots, with black outlines. On the back of each of the knight-like gauntlets, there was a black round orb embedded into the armor. Each finger ended in a pointed and sharp claw as well. The boots were similar to the gauntlets, in that they had a black orb embedded in it but instead of the foot area, it was embedded in the knee part of the armor.
[Good...Good! A supernova? What a fun way of awakening my power!] the voice laughed before quickly calming down, [Okay, okay, here's what you have to do - amplify your attacks. If you wish for your punches to do 2x the natural damage, they will. That's all I'll tell you for now as it's all you need. Good luck,] I heard the voice and could guess that whatever or whoever it was, was smiling as they said all of this. Like this was all some kind of entertainment for them.
But right now I didn't have the time to be thinking like that as time was slowly speeding back up. Though even as it stopped speeding up, I could perceive everything much better - quicker, even.
Not just that either. My entire body felt...stronger. Reinforced. There was a certain kind of energy leaking from the four pieces of armor and it was slowly flowing into my body. It was a cruel, overwhelming power that made me shiver...but it didn't hurt. My body; my muscles, bone and skin just absorbed the energy like thirsty animals and were empowered by it.
Which let me jump to the side of the light spear. The crow girl's eyes widened and she went to summon more light spears, multiple...well, what looked like a Magic Circles from an RPG appeared behind her.
I knew I needed to get to her before she could fire them. Dodging one was fine but I felt like dodging half a dozen spears...would be a 'bit' harder. Something also told me that the light spears she'd thrown up until now were very casual aka not at all their top speed.
But how could I get to her quickly...?
Then I realized it. I could amplify damage but what did that entail? Amplifying power. I focused on my feet or more specifically the armor covering them and I willed my next step to be amplified five times.
Pushing off the floor like a sprinter would, the world blurred even with my enhanced reflexes and an explosion of sound came from behind me. As the world began to slow down again, I saw that I was right in front of the crow girl. So before she could react, I pulled back my arm and willed the power to be amplified by two times.
My own momentum, plus the power of my amplified punch, collided against the girl's face and with a definite crack, she flew back and went through the water fountain.
For a second, I was slightly worried I'd overdone it but a light spear narrowly missing my face told me I had nothing to worry about and that she was still alive.
She, now rising in mid-air, began to look down at me with a bruised and cut face, her nose and mouth dribbling blood. But that didn't stop her from looking absolutely furious as she lifted a hand, dozens of Magic Circles appearing behind her, "You little piece of trash human...!" she screamed but just as she was about to send out her spears of light, a strike of lightning slammed right into the ground below her, narrowly missing her.
"Now now, Fallen Angel-san, don't you know it's quite rude to be messing about in our town?" a girl I instantly recognized walked out of the bushes to the side - where I'd thrown Issei - with a smile on her face and her eyes closed and forming crescent.
...I don't know why but my instincts are telling me to be wary of that face.
The girl, who I knew as Himejima-senpai, smiled at me, "Good job surviving, Kurosawa-kun," her closed eyes cracked open and they looked over the golden armor on my limbs, "Though with a Longinus Sacred Gear...I suppose it isn't much of a surprise," she said, her purple eyes flickering with something before she turned back to the crow girl...who was apparently a Fallen Angel? This day is just getting more and more confusing...
Out of the bushes, came a small white-haired girl I also recognized, carrying Issei like he weighed nothing, "...Kurosawa-senpai," she said with her usual deadpan look.
"T-Toujou-san," I greeted back with a slight stammer - were all the girls I knew involved with the seemingly supernatural??
"Tch," was all the Fallen Angel said before flying away into the sky and practically disappearing. That left me with the two girls and just as I was about to say something, a voice came from behind me.
"Hello, Leo-kun," came the calm and cheery voice I'd usually hear when I came across a certain redhead. Turning, I saw Rias Gremory, a senpai of mine who I'd always admired. But right now...she had what looked like bat wings coming from her back. Seeing my muted shock, Gremory-senpai just smiled before her wings went away and she dropped to the ground, "I'm sorry you had to get involved with that. I would have helped if not for the politics of the situation. Do you have time for a chat?"
Remembering what I had been doing before that Fallen Angel or whatever she was attacked Issei, I instantly started to look around frantically.
The three girls were seemingly confused by my actions but when I rushed to a slightly ripped plastic bag, they seemed to come to some form of understanding.
De-summoning the armor with a mental command, I picked up the bag before opening it and looking inside. Sighing with relief I didn't think were possible in this scenario, I stood back up and turned to Gremory-senpai while lifting the bag, "I have to go and take this back to my house. We can talk there if you want," I said with a polite smile, "I very much want to know what the hell just happened," still with the polite smile, I could see the understanding on their faces even as my speech and hurried tone were very unsuited for my polite smile.
Just as I was about to walk, all three of the girls let out those bat wings and I nearly summoned the armor again but was stopped when the rugged voice spoke in my head again, [They're not your enemies, boy,] before going silent again.
The voice hadn't led me astray just yet, so I relaxed and Himejima-senpai came over to me with a smile, "We'll fly you back to your house, Kurosawa-kun," she said and I numbly nodded as she walked behind me and scooped her arms under me, lifting me with surprising ease.
Then we were flying.
...What a day.
