October 23rd 2020, a few minutes before midnight.
I had been playing on my PlayStation for the past eight hours straight, bashing out some Dauntless with my best friends when the last of them had to get off and sleep.
I turned off the game and opened up Netflix, searched for something random to go to sleep to and lay down on my bed. Just as I started to get comfortable under my duvet, a blue transparent window opened up in front of my face.

I opened my tired eyes wide as I saw the floating screen in front of my eyes, I was in disbelief for a few moments before a sudden sound started from my bedside table, causing me to jump.
'It was 1989 my thoughts were short, my hair was long. Caught somewhere between a boy and man.'
I was only startled for a second before I realised that it was my ringtone. I picked up the phone and saw it was one of my best friends Zeno, with whom I had just been playing with.
I answered and he immediately began talking through the speaker.
"Cam, Cam, are you seeing this too? Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god! Are we gonna get transmigrated? Are we gonna go and fight demons or save princeses or slay dragons or something? Ahhhhhh I'm so happyyyyy!" Zeno blurted out through the phone.
I was used to this behaviour as he acted this way everytime we won a game or whenever we talked about a new LN or something.
" Hey Z calm down for a sec and lemme think, I am seeing the countdown. It says to prepare so we should be preparing. Go get your emergency kit, get your family up and see if they can see it, then hop in the car and get to my house okay? I'll call Prince and get everyone here up as well okay?" I said as he finally started to calm down.
We quickly hung up the phone then I pulled back the curtain at the side of my bed and started shouting at the top of my lungs.
" EVERYONE UP THERE'S A FIRE IN THE KITCHEN, GRAB YOUR EMERGENCY BAGS AND MOVE OUT!"
We had done emergency drills before so everyone in the house quickly shot up from their beds grabbed their emergency bags from out of the wardrobes and bolted for the door as quickly as possible.
It wasn't until they were already stood in the front garden that they all realised that there was a blue screen floating in front of their faces. They all started rubbing their eyes and trying to touch the screen, thinking they were hallucinating but the screen still persisted and remained floating in front of them.
I checked and rechecked every room in the house before coming out with an extra duffel bag filled to the brim with equipment.
When my dad saw me carrying the bag he assumed the worst and started to distribute the equipment as I started to explain what I knew, which really wasn't much.
"Alright guys everyone knows the drill, get on your gear and strap on your equipment. I honestly have no clue what the screen is but judging from your confused expressions and hand swiping, you can all see it. We are all gonna try and gather as much supplies as possible from the pantry and kitchen cupboards, non perishables only. Everyone get going as soon as you're geared up, extra bags are here. Z and Prince's families will also be here shortly, I'll call Uncle Lee and run next door too. So gather as much as possible then meet back here before the two minute mark on the countdown okay?"
Everyone murmered and nodded in agreement before rushing back into the house, fully geared up.
I pulled out my phone and called Prince whilst I headed next door and pulled out the spare key I had. I banged on the door a few times to announce my presence then unlocked it and opened it.
"SAM, LIL, EVIE, JAMIE ALL OF YOU GOTTA GET UP NOW. GET YOUR EMERGENCY KITS AND HEAD TO THE FRONT GARDEN, WE'LL BE WAITING!" I shouted as soon as I opened the door.
Before I had even finished speaking Lily was already at the top of the stairs with her kit in hand, dragging a tired Evie behind her. I gave her a quick nod before leaving with the door still ajar.
Sam, Lily, Jamie and Evie were the family who lived next door to us. They had been good family friends for the past ten or so years so they were also included in our preparedness plans.
I took a quick look at the countdown timer whilst I dialed Prince's number, it read [07:43]. He picked up quickly and I filled him in, he would be at my house in around four minutes. I then called my uncle only to hear the tone go off behind me, I turned to see my Uncle Lee climbing out of his van with his family in tow.
I briefed him on what was going on then went to grab my own gear from the back room. The back room was a kind of home cinema and lined up along one of the walls was a row of lockers.
I walked to the locker closest to the end opened it and smiled for a moment before taking out the contents. It was my pride and joy, I had spent four months working as a labourer for my uncle just to save up enough money to buy this, it was a Bear Archery Super Kodiak Recurve Bow.
Everything about this bow spells quality, which is to be expected from a recurve bow that comes with a pretty high price tag. This 60-inch bow may not be the first choice for a beginner, but it represents an optimal pick for a more advanced user, as well as for a seasoned shooter. You will notice that every detail was carefully cared for meticulously.
Taking a look at the limbs will tell you everything you need to know. Made from maple, they are flexible, and they are reinforced with black fiberglass, to ensure numerous years of use. Its string is also of good quality made from top of the line fletchings. It has amazingly superior build and quality.
However not everyone can afford it due to its hefty price tag but I spent a lot of time saving just so I could buy one of the best bows on the market.
I also had three quivers of arrows, one being standard fiberglass shafted, steel bullet head arrows for target shooting, one being carbon steel shafted broadheads, and the other being traditional wooden shafted pointed arrows.
My personal favourites are the broadheads as they pack a much bigger punch due to the extra weight behind them. I do however use both other kinds of arrows depending on what I'm doing with them.
I hung my traditional arrows onto my utility belt as I got dressed into my a equipment. I wore thick grey cargo pants, a black long sleeved shirt covered by my tight leather jacket. I had wrist and chest protectors strapped on and a large duffel bag hung on my back with my other two quivers of arrows inside.
I opted for the traditional arrows as my first choice as they were a good compromise between the strong, heavy broadheads and the swift, light bullet heads giving me maximum versatility for the upcoming situation.
After I was all geared up I took a glance at the countdown, it read [01:56]. I double checked my equipment then headed outside to make sure everyone was here and ready to go.
I walked out the front door to see everyone talking anxiously among themselves. It was only at this point that I noticed one of my brothers, Declan, was missing.
I asked Sharon where he was and she said he was staying at a friend's house over a half hours drive away but she had called him and he was safe so she was holding up just fine.
I nodded then took a minute to reel in my emotions that had finally got a chance to run wild when I took a minute to process what was going on. A giant smile beemed across my face for a few seconds before it was gone and replaced by a serious look as we watched the timer count down.
I looked towards Zeno and Prince who had arrived a couple of minutes before with their families in tow, I gave them a quick nod each before focusing on the timer.
[00:34], [00:33], [00:32].
It was counting down ever so slowly now that we were all waiting for it.
My dad decided to speak up once the timer hit thirty seconds.
"Okay everyone once whatever is about to happen happens our first priority is to stick together and find a safe place, once we find one we can continue our discussion then." He said with quite an authorititve voice. Although he did look a little stupid with my youngest brother strapped to his back like a backpack along with his duffel bag.
However no one pointed that out as they just nodded seriously and got into a fighting stance ready for whatever would come next.
They watched as the clock counted down.
[00:03], [00:02], [00:01].
