Just Floaters and Centaurs

There was a howl in the shadows we were forced to trod into. Scariest part was I was an avid player of Fallout 4 in my last life but I knew that howl wasn't a dog nor was it a mutant hound. Was it something from the older Fallout games?

I kept my light on, not liking the odds of sneaking through here with two companions and power armor. At the end of the hall we were struck by a scent of death so strong that it made the Raider base look like nothing. Bones, limbs and mutant gore bags sat about in water and blood an inch deep.

If this were the game I'd casually go over and look around for Radstag or Deathclaw meat and stuff but NO. It was disgusting and unsanitary and too much for me just coming out of the Vault. Screw THAT. Not only that, but something was getting into these bags. These were… dog food. However that's not what unsettled me the most.

It was the silence.

"Throw a Molotov. Have your shotty ready."

She had Esperanza help light it when movement caught my attention at my feet. However, nothing was there…

Except the reflection above us.

"HOLY SHI-"

There was a squeal and hissing worms flew down from the ceiling and I opened fire with my AR-10. The Gunner girl shot two of them with the shotgun in her good hand and tossed the Molotov after them. She was lucky to hit them since they were moving so fast but this wasn't over.

"What the hell are those?!" I asked.

"Those are Floaters Mr. Tough Guy. I hate them too. They're like flying snakes."

"Um amigo y amiga!"

We looked where Esperanza was looking and saw a large mass in the shadows. About as large as a small bear. I was not ready for the "bear" to moan,

"HeLp uS-"

"Centaur!"

The Gunner blasted it and in between shots I could tell it was three or more people horrifically morphed together by FEV. I remember seeing something like it in some Fallout 4 concept art but centaurs were cut from the game. Behind us I heard splashing and a two headed centaur with one human-one dog head charged us and I opened fire.

Twirling in wild arcs the Floaters came at our flank but Esperanza charged and sliced two of them. Next was a deafening howl I recognized as a small pack of three mutant hounds rounded the corner, kicking up water, blood and gore as they ran. The fires on the ground thanks to the Molotov helped illuminate their advance. I was able to shoot one before the others leapt for my leg and neck. Blocking my neck I struggled to stay up, even in power armor as the dogs hounded me.

"I got you!" The Gunner said, pointing the shotgun at the mutt before clicking empty. She cussed but Esperanza finally circled back around and went to town on my ankle biter with her buzzsaw.

"Take that, perro estúpido!"

I gripped the dog's jaws and pried it off with my strength. Catching it before it closed again I kept pulling spitefully until the jaws broke violently. Slamming it down, I placed an armored knee on the still growling beast and took my 10mm and plugged the tough thing with three bullets before it stopped moving.

Getting up, the Gunner gave me a sheepish look as the fires continued to burn. She held her now empty gun and asked cheekily,

"Trade?"

The flames must have hit a floater's body because a small explosion went off a safe distance from us as if on cue.
