Slaughter

"What do you think they are going to Ren?" Ms. Carter asked as soon as the gags were removed.

They were currently moving up to the surface.

"I don't know... but he's the only reason we are alive right now," Eric answered.

They heard a large rumble somewhere beneath them.

"Not yet sir. We are almost at the surface." One of the guards escorting them to the surface was responding to someone talking through his earpiece. "Yes sir. We will head back as soon as we are finished."

BOOM!

This time they all heard a large blast from below.

"What's going on down there?" one of the guards asked the guard in charge of the escort.

"I don't know. I was only told to hurry back as fast as we could."

The elevator light began to flicker as the elevator slowed to a stop.

Explosion after explosion was heard from below. They continued to grow closer and closer until the elevator began to shake in response.

"That can only be one person," stated Ms. Croft. The three of them all looked at each other and nodded while smiling.

The elevator shook violently again.

"We'll just take care of it now," spoke the guard in charge.

"Understood."

All of the guards aimed their guns at the three prisoners.

"What, I thought we were going to be released?" Ms. Carter stammered.

"Change in plans. Men, fire!"

CRASH!

A body flew through the elevator door knocking all of the guards over.

Ren walked through the hole in the elevator.

"Ren!" they all screamed happily.

Ren didn't do a thing except stare at the guards.

SLASH, SPLAT, SPLUSH!

In a flash, Ren tore the guards apart with his bare hands.

"Kill...more..." Ren mumbled. He looked at his friends and turned to face them.

"Ren are you alright...?" Ms. Croft asked.

"Something's not right. Ms. Croft stay away from him!" Eric yelled.

Ren shot forward and nailed Ms. Croft to the elevator wall by the neck.

"Ren, stop!" Ms. Carter yelled. Both she and Eric grabbed Ren and tried to pull him away, but he pushed both of them away. They both got back up and tried again. This time Ren smashed his fist into Eric's face and kicked Ms. Carter, sending them both into the elevator walls, knocking them unconscious.

Ren was still holding Ms. Croft and was about to kill her...

"Kill... no wait... not them... I need to kill..." Ren was confused before letting out a scream letting Ms. Croft's neck go.

Ren exited the elevator and disappeared down the hallway.

...

"Eric! Eric!"

Eric woke up to Lorraine's voice and sat up.

"Lorraine? How did you get here?" Eric asked.

"I used my ability to get down here. DO you have any idea where Ren ran off?"

"Sorry, no clue."

"Ms. Croft, are you alright?"

Ms. Croft was sitting while staring at the ground.

"It was awful. Ren massacred everyone in sight. He almost killed me, but stopped at the last second."

"You mean, Ren did this?" Lorraine pointed out at the hallway.

The hallway was littered with dead bodies, which were ruthlessly torn apart, blood dripped from the ceiling and plastered the walls.

They exited the elevator and observed all the destruction left in Ren's wake.

"I can't believe he did this." Lorraine gasped.

They came across the bodies of dead children.

"Something's wrong. Why would he kill children?" Lorraine cried, tears streaming down her face.

"We need to find a way out of here. Ren may still be out their causing more destruction. If he makes it to the more populated areas, a lot of people are going to die." Eric pointed out.

They all nodded in agreement and headed up towards the exit.

Using Lorraine's ability, they were able to go up the elevator shaft up to the surface.

"The car is a little ways that way." Lorraine pointed in the direction of the car she and Ren arrived in.

Once they reached the car, they all checked the media in order to see if Ren was on it at all, however, there wasn't anything.

"That's a good thing, right?" Eric asked.

"I'm curious, Ms. Carter. Does Ren know where all facilities are specifically?" Ms. Croft asked.

"Yeah, he asked me once. Do you think that's where he's headed?"

"It's only a gut feeling, but yes. We need to head to the other facility in South Dakota. I'm afraid that the core may have taken control of Ren. Ms. Carter, could you contact the doctor that we meet in Utah?"

"Yes. It may take a little bit to find his number, but I can do it." Ms. Carter answered.

"Good."

They stayed in the car and headed to South Dakota, hoping to make it there before Ren did.

...

The night was a quiet one. Only one lone car on a dirt road was riding along. The driver was humming an older tune while he headed for home.

The driver gasped as the silhouette of a man appeared in front of his car. The driver slammed on his brakes so as to not hit the man in front of him.

He opened his door, stepped out and yelled, "Hey son, get out of the road! It's not safe! I almost hit you!"

The older man opened his door as the man didn't move at all. The driver tried to get a better look at the man's face, but it was covered with a mask.

SPLUSH!

The man appearing in an instant in front of the old man and drove his hand through the man's stomach. Blood began to pour out of the old man's mouth as Ren pulled his arm out.

The older man collapsed and the man in the mask sat down in the driver's seat and drove off into the night.
