I woke up surrounded by tubes, and medical equipment. It smelt like disinfectant. I looked around the room. I was in the hospital! Why was I in the hospital? I had an IV stuck in my arm, which annoyed me. I hated needles. I moved my head, and it pounded like crazy. I winced. My whole body ached. The last thing I remembered was falling, and someone yell my name. I had bruises on my left arm. What happened? Did I faint? I guess I did. But why was I in the hospital? I was fine. I probably just got too tired, and stopped breathing again. I heard arguing outside of the room. It sounded like my dad, and someone I didn't know. Well great. I DEFINITELY succeeded on not worrying my parents. They already had enough going on, with three kids and work. I was adding to their load. Ugh. I hated myself for this. I was exhausted, but I couldn't fall back asleep. How long was I hear? The clock was too far away, and I had bad eyesight. As I squinted to read the clock, my mom came in.
"Oh Kira! Are you ok? You fainted during P.E! Luckily Bree was there, and got help."
"Yeah mom I thought I just had a little bug, and it would be gone by today, but I guess not..." I babbled. My mom looked confused.
"What? You thought what was just a bug?"
I gave her a sheepish look.
"Well... yesterday I threw up a couple times, and I didn't feel that good, and I felt the same today."
"You didn't feel good yesterday? Why didn't you tell me?"
"You guys already have a lot to do, and I didn't want to worry you."
"Kira! You don't need to worry about us! We need to know if your not feeling good, so it doesn't get as serious as it is now!"
"Ok. Wait. What do you mean serious? Isn't it just a bug?" What did my mom mean? I just fainted, and felt a little sick. That didn't mean it was so serious right?
"Well, the doctors ran some tests, and your blood sugar is extremely low, and yesterday you didn't just faint. You stopped breathing, and your pulse got dangerously low. You scared us."
It took me a minute to process that. Yesterday?? I was out a lot longer than I thought. Huh. And my pulse got low? What did that mean? I stopped breathing? I was crashing.
"The doctor is going to come, and you need to tell them all of your symptoms, ok? They need to know everything."
"What's going on with me?" I asked my mom in a small voice. Her eyes filled with tears.
"We WILL find out. The doctor is on his way."
My dad came in and rushed over to us. "Kira! How are you feeling?"
"Terrible." I answered.
The doctor came in, and my parents left the room to wait.
"Hi. I'm doctor Hale. Your name's Kira?" He extended his hand out to me. I shook it, and it was freezing. I nodded. He looked familiar, which was weird. He had the same blue eyes as... someone I knew..Zach! Wait he said Hale! Oh my gosh. I laughed for a second. Zach's dad stared at me with a confused look on his face, and turned to get his equipment. He looks like Zach, but older, obviously. I squirmed around, feeling uncomfortable now. He turned around and gave me a smile, the same one Zach would give me sometimes. I smiled back shyly.
"So what's wrong Kira?"
"I would like to know that as well." I said.
He chuckled. "Well what are your symptoms?"
