They decided to meet with a goblin to set up a vault for the kid's future use. The experience was anything but nice as he seemed solely focused on setting everything up with no small talk, it made for quite a stuffy atmosphere that made them uncomfortable. It was a good thing the Professor was there to help smooth things out and take charge as needed when the goblin was being a bit too intrusive.
Then Professor McGonagall received a shock when the goblin asked- "Is the boy a 100% human? Due note I need to ask in order to better optimize the security."
"Of course he is, what are you daft?" said Professor McGonagall not understanding.
"Unusual eye color for a human, first I've seen, so I had to ask."
Professor McGonagall turned to look at Trenton's eyes and noticed for the first time they were a dark red. During her various meetings with the families, she never paid particularly any close attention to what his eyes were, they often were inside and it tended to blend in with his similarly colored hair.
Professor McGonagall gasped- "Oh dear, I've never noticed before." After a long pause she confirmed again,- "He is human though, of that I have no doubt." After all, he was determined so by virtue of becoming a wizard and being sent a Hogwarts letter if nothing else to say his parents would know better then anyone.
The goblin narrowed his eyes in a questioning stare- "You seem unsure, do we need to do a blood test?"
Professor McGonagall scoffed- "That's unnecessary, you should know who I am and why I'm here, do you think Hogwarts would make such a juvenile mistake."
Trenton's mother then spoke as she held her son in comfort in case he was getting the wrong idea- "I know my son has unusual eyes but is that any reason to say he's not human, I am his mother, and this is father, and I can assure you that we are both 100% human, I don't know why this is even an issue."
The Goblin only mumbled- "Muggles." in annoyance. "Alright everything is in order, you can see the tellers out front for any further business."
Professor McGonagall- "Could we have a private room to discuss things."
The goblin gave her a stink eye- "It'll cost you."
Professor McGonagall snorted as she placed a few galleons on the table. The goblin only quietly stared back until she placed a few more- "That's enough now, we only need it for a short while." she said growing irritated.
The goblin happily accepted the coins before showing them to a room.
After they were all settled in, Professor McGonagall asked- "Do you want the Grangers to be present? This does concern your privacy."
Mr. and Mrs. Granger felt a little awkward- "Maybe we should go."
Trenton wanted Hermione to stay for support- "I would like Hermione to stay." he nervously said thinking something bad was about to happen.
Hermione grinned- "I would love to stay and help in any way I can if there is something wrong with Trenton, I want to help out." she said thinking of all the times he's helped her over the past year.
Trenton grinned back- "Thanks, Hermione."
The Grangers looked towards the Epperson's to see if they were okay with it.
Mr. Epperson straightforwardly said- "Well you heard them, I think it's fine for you to stay, I hope we can continue to be friends for years to come and help each other out if that's okay with you."
The Grangers smiled- "Certainly, we hope for the same."
Professor McGonagall gave a small grin- "It's good to have friends, keep them close to you, and don't take them for granted." she lectured the kids.
"Now as for what happened in there with the goblin, Trenton I just realized has red eyes, they're not the most noticeable which is good, so I think we're fine and no one else has noticed, but red eyes in the magical world have a bit of a stigma attached to it."
Professor McGonagall had everyone sit down before continuing- "They are known for being associated with dark creatures such as vampires, people will believe it to be a sign that you are a dark wizard, this can be very bad in our community due to the last war we had with a dark wizard, though it should be noted he didn't have red eyes, this will not stop them from pointing the finger at your son should it be discovered, saying things like he will be the next and well I think you get the idea."
Mrs. Epperson started to squeeze her boy's arm tighter- "What does this mean? Is he going to be in danger? Maybe we should just stay in the regular world then."
Trenton hearing this started to freak out a little as Hermione grabbed his hand nervously. The last thing she wanted was to be separated from Trenton and have to attend a new school alone.
Professor McGonagall sighed- "I don't think that would be wise since he has magic, it's best to learn to control it, now as for his eyes, there are ways to hide it, but Trenton will have to make sure he doesn't expose himself." She paused taking a breath,- "Now I promise that while he's in Hogwarts he will be perfectly safe even if he's discovered, I will personally speak to Albus, the headmaster, about this matter, I just wish to inform you of the dangers and that it would be best for him to hide it."
Hermione getting an idea excitedly spoke- "I may not know of which magic can help, but don't forget we muggles have amazing things too, Trenton can use color contacts to hide his eyes."
Professor McGonagall grinned- "My, aren't you a smart one, I hope you get sorted into Gryffindor, that's the house I'm in charge of." she said making Hermione bloom from the praise.
Trenton jumped on it as well- "Yes, we can do what Hermione said, right mom, right?" he asked looking expectantly.
Professor McGonagall seeing her still worried- "How about this, I'll just transfigure a pair and we can try it out." she said taking out some random objects to turn.
Though Professor McGonagall wore glasses in Hogwarts from time to time, it was a magical pair designed to see if students were using magical cheats on test papers and such since wizards were usually healthy thanks to magic. So she had Hermione and company explain it a bit just to make sure she was right in her assumption before getting the gist of what contacts were, then instantly transfigured a pair on the spot.
Trenton tried it on having his eyes turn from dark red to a plain brown.
Hermione looked a little disappointed to see the eyes she couldn't get enough of change, but she was happier to have her friend stay with her.- "See it works just fine, now you can go to Hogwarts with me and there won't be any problem."
Trenton grinned- "Thanks, Hermione...And we have the same color eyes now!"
Hermione grinned- "Mn."
Seeing her grin he thought out loud- "Should I also color my hair to match?" as he rubbed his hair.
Hermione suddenly shouted "No!" while grabbing his hands away from his hair.
Mrs. Granger giggled knowing her daughter best.
