Trenton dragged his parents along towards the pet store, he always wanted a pet, but his parents said no because he would be at school all the time and wouldn't take care of it. Thanks to Hogwarts, he now could get one since they allow familiars to accompany their master.

Mr. Epperson- "Calm down son, there's still plenty of time left, no need to rush."

Trenton- "Just remembered you promised, I can get one now and take care of it at Hogwarts, so you won't have to be stuck with it by yourselves."

Mrs. Epperson- "Are you sure you can take care of it? A pet is a big deal, your caring for another life besides your own."

Trenton didn't let anything sway him- "I'll take very good care of it."

Mr. Epperson tried to rationalize it- "It'll probably be easier to take care of to since it'll be magical, probably smarter than regular pets."

Mrs. Epperson- "I hope so, Trenton can be a handful sometimes, I'm still skeptical about all this."

Trenton looked back with slightly tearful eyes- "You promised." he wined.

Mrs. Epperson sighed- "Oh alright, what could it hurt."

Trenton broke out into a grin- "Yay! now come on, it's just over there." he said excitedly pointing to the store with the big sign out front that says Magical Pets. It had a magical display of different kinds of pets running around the sign to give it an extra flair to draw in customers.

The store was filled with pets of all kinds, many allowed to roam freely through the store to better entice customers. It was also packed with kids like Trenton who were looking for their very own.

There was a lizard type that would sink into the floor only to pop its head out a couple of feet away as if it was swimming. Another was a frog type that hopped fast and hard, then began bouncing like a ball from one wall to the next making Trenton parents duck out of the way.

Trenton with stars in eyes exclaimed- "So Cool, I want that one!" But both his parents simultaneously said- "No!"

Trenton brushed it off though as there were plenty yet to be discovered.

Mrs. Epperson seeing the ones that looked like cats and dogs thought it would be a good idea to get something they could relate with to some degree.- "Trent, why don't you check out a cat or a dog please, don't get something too exotic."

Trenton thinking real hard knew that he had to get something he could cuddle, pet, and play with, otherwise what would be the point? So taking his Mom's advice he checked out the furry animals, looking for one that stood out to him.

He saw a neat orange cat, but it choose to stay out of range of his reaching hands, which caused him to pout in defeat. Looking around he quickly found a replacement as he saw a similarly orange looking puppy.

Trenton- "O wow a puppy!" he said picking it up.

It was just the cutest thing, Trenton immediately knew he wanted it as he cuddled it in his arms, allowing it to lick him.

A store assistant spotted them with the puppy- "Oh my, I'm sorry dear customer, but we must have missed that one somehow, it wasn't supposed to be out here on the floor." he said reaching for the puppy.

Trenton dodged his hands as the puppy tried seeking shelter further in his grasp.- "What, why, I found him, he's mine now."

Mrs. Epperson- "Trenton hush... Now if you would please explain what is going on?" she said addressing the assistant.

The store owner seeing the commotion made his way over and interrupted his assistant- "I'll take it from here Bill... I'm sorry about that, but the puppy was apart of an illegal Cerberus experiment to make it more pet friendly and was only given to us after it showed no sign of problems. The main problem, however, is it also showed no signs of magic what so ever, so we decided to take them off the floor and euthanize them, not sure how this one got away."

Trenton grew horrified- "You, you, you killed them all because they didn't have magic?"

Store owner scratched his cheek thinking about how he screwed up mentioning that part to a kid- "Oh, um, Well we're not allowed to give experiments to muggles, even if it looks like a regular dog and no wizard would buy a nonmagical pet so we were left with little choice."

Trenton refused his gesture to hand it over- "No! I won't let you kill him!"

Mr. Epperson- "How much? We'll be happy to take him."

Trenton looked back happily- "Really you mean it?"

Mrs. Epperson rubbed his head- "Of course we can if this is the one you want." she said moving a finger down to rub the puppy's head.

Trenton- "Yes, yes, I'll take it and take care of it and love it, I won't let anything happen to it."

Mrs. Epperson smiled, this was the best she could have hoped for, she was afraid of some weird magical thing she wouldn't be able to deal with, but now they were getting a dog, something she can handle.

Store owner- "Are you sure, getting a familiar can be very important to a wizard, this would be just a pet."

Mr. Epperson a little disappointed they weren't getting a magical pet, still stood up for them as he put his foot down- "You heard them, now let me have it, how much? We'll be taking it."

Store owner shook his head with his hands up in defeat- "Just take it, we can't charge you for something like that, I just hope you don't regret it."

Trenton rubbed his face on the puppy who was happily responding to his good vibes, giving a lick now and again causing Trenton to chuckle- "I'll never regret, I'm just sorry about it being the last one, I wish I could have saved the others."

Mrs. Epperson- "So what are you going to name it?"

Mr. Epperson- "Give it a good strong name, it's a boy so something like Brutus, yeah name him Brutus."

Trenton gagged at the name- "No way am I going to name it that... now let's see what should I name you?" he asked smiling when it let out a cute yawn.

Trenton- "It has to be something catchy that I wouldn't mind saying, hmmm, I think I'll just name you Rocky, I think it fits due to your color and its nice to say."

Mr. Epperson- "Rocky? I guess that's a strong name, it has the word rock in it, rocks are strong, a bit common though."

Mrs. Epperson couldn't help but snort at her husband.- "Come on, let's go see if the Grangers are ready to go, we still have to find a taxi or something."

Trenton- "We can just use the fireplace again."

Mr. Epperson awkwardly said while avoiding there mocking gazes- "Best not... I think I remember her saying something about needing to set it up first, so we can't even if we want to, It'll be good to learn the normal way to get here anyway."
