Trenton- "Well that class ended rather bleakly and we didn't even learn any magic, hopefully our next class is fun."
Hermione- "Yeah, sorry about that, if I didn't ask that question maybe it would have ended better."
Trenton- "Don't worry about it, it was still useful information, so what class do we have today?"
The Homeroom class was only to give them knowledge on the world in general, but they have one actual magical class a day so they can better concentrate on what they're learning.
Hermione grinned- "Transfiguration with Professor McGonagall, I can't wait."
The same thing happened in the beginning as it did in the movie with Harry and Ron arriving late and the teacher jumping out shifting from her cat form.
Trenton leaned over asking Hermione- "You interested in turning into an animal?"
Hermione- "I don't know, could be fun, shhh, the lessons starting."
Professor sneaks a peek at Hermione and Trenton giving them a friendly smile before starting.
"For those who don't know me, I am Professor McGonagall, and I'll be teaching you all about Transfiguration, arguably one of the most important lessons you'll learn while here in Hogwarts. It can be considered advance course material, but we decided to teach it as early as now because it can help you in all aspects of magic."
"Having gone through introductions, I'm sure you heard of will and intent, Transfiguration is all about will and intent, once you master it, you'll be able to master anything given enough time."
"For example, I will now transform this desk into a pig, the first step is to visualize what a pig is, know what it is and what you want the desk to become, and then will it to happen, gather your magic and..." with a swing of her wand she turns the desk into a pig.
She demonstrates a few more times, before stopping.
"This of course is much easier said than done, everything must be cohesive and fluid, you must know what you want and use the magic in a timely manner without your thoughts straying. We will start simple, I want you to turn these small cubes on your desks into cups... start,"
This was a difficult first lesson for the kids because they had all sorts of thoughts rattling around in their heads. Hermione was no exception as she struggled to turn the cube into a cup with all kinds of thoughts after having just been introduced into the wizarding world.
Trenton fared no better at first, but he was able to quickly adapt thanks to his past memories slowly returning.
Professor McGonagall made sure to keep a watchful eye on everyone's practice, learning who was gifted and who wasn't. She knew things changed as time goes on, but this would be a good indication of who to watch out for in the future.
She was pleasantly surprised to see Trenton get the hang of it relatively fast- "Well done Mr. Epperson, it's a shame you didn't end up in my house, I would have loved to see you and Miss Granger in Gryffindor." she sighed- "I'll give credit where credit is due, 10 points to Hufflepuff."
Trenton grinned while Hermione feeling her competitive school spirit, went back to work not wanting to be outdone.
Professor McGonagall- "That doesn't mean you can slack off, keep at it until you can do it flawlessly, best to make it a cup you want to drink out of, I can still see some deformities."
Trenton- "Yes."
A short while later Hermione managed to be the 2nd person to change it, followed by a third and a fourth.
Professor McGonagall soon called for a break before some overworked themselves- "Attention everyone, we'll be stopping here for now. It's not good to overwork your magic, I can already see the signs of magical fatigue on some of you, and..." she paused as she whipped out her wand to fling a cube away from a student before it exploded.
Causing a fright from the surrounding students who could have been injured from it.
"And if you pour to much volatile magic into an object it will eventually explode like so, what I mean by volatile is when your pouring in failed magic that isn't getting results and then you stack more magic on top of it before it can dissipate, thus eventually building up conflicting power for an explosive reaction."
"No need to rush results, your all still very new to magic, it's far too early to compare yourselves to others, there's plenty of time for each of you to make great progress from here, nothing is ever set in stone when it comes to magic."
"Now pull out your textbooks and we'll do it a bit of textual learning while we rest."
After class ended Trenton took Hermione exploring to go find where they were keeping Rocky and the other Familiars.
