'KLAK--'
Aaric was sipping his tea, when he heard the sound of breaking a cup. He looked downward and lifted his eyes to look at the girl beside him. His eyes widened in shock when he saw her falling. He quickly placed down his mug and grabbed her by her slender waist. With the other hand he supported her shoulders.
Sasha's eyebrows were knitted into a knot and her forehead was covered with sweat beads. He made her sit on his lap and grabbed the glass of water that was on the table. He sprinkled water on her face to gain her consciousness. He shouted for her.
"Sasha… Sasha wake up!"
"..."
"No… no… please… I cannot lose you again… Sasha... Please wake up!!" Hearing Aaric's painful voice, Alleyn and Amanda who had just returned rushed upstairs. Both were panting heavily, but they did not dare to stop. The moment Alleyn pushed the door of the study room to open, he saw Aaric sprinkling water on her face while patting and rubbing her cheeks in between.
"Hey buddy… Calm down. First let's take her to the bedroom, then I will check her up." Alleyn remained calm while from inside he was panicking and afraid too. 'If anything happens to her… I don't know what he will do. Damn! What happened?'
Amanda, who stayed rooted near the door frame, was frightened to the core. She was shivering uncontrollably. Even when Aaric carried Sasha out of the room, she did not move an inch. Her eyes had turned red, puffed with tears that were ready to fall anytime. Her face lost all the color and turned pale. She managed these past nine months anyhow without her friend, but now no more. She could not.
Alleyn looked at the pitiful sight of his wife, he felt his heart ache. He wanted to console her, but it was not the correct time. First he needed to see whether Sasha was alright or not. He just patted her on her shoulders and rushed behind Aaric.
As soon as Aaric got inside, he quickly laid down Sasha on the bed and gestured to Alleyn to see what happened.
Alleyn held up her wrist to check her pulse. He checked her eyes and then took a flashlight. He opened one of her eyes. He wanted to check on the condition of PERRL which stands for 'pupils are equal and reactive to light'. He wanted to see the size of the pupil and when he flashes light, will it contract. In an average person, it might not be relevant but in Sasha's case where she suffered from a head injury, it was very important for him to check this.
He wanted to make sure whether the pupils are equal, because if they're not, that can be the sign of potentially something very serious in the brain that is affecting the brain's ability to send that message to the eye to have that pupil squeeze down and constrict. That can be a sign of some kind of bleeding in the brain, which is the more serious thing.
He tried to look at her eyes carefully and tried to get a look at the back of the eye at what's called the fundus of the eye. By looking at the optic nerve he can easily find out if there is an internal bleeding or any pressure is there on the brain. If it is there, then her optic nerve must have swelled up by now.
After fifteen minutes of thorough check up, he stood up and turned to look at his friend who was anxiously waiting for his report. He breathed a sigh of relief and handed Aaric a glass of water.
Reluctantly, he took the glass and shifted his eyes from Sasha to Alleyn.
"Look there seems to be no signs of internal bleeding as the optic nerve seems to be fine. As of why she fainted, the only possibility is that she is tired mentally. There are many cases where a person shows such symptoms. So, it is not a big issue. But the major issue is something else."
"Her fever?"
"Yes. She is having a very high fever. If it stays like this, it might affect her brain. So I think it is better to inject medicine to reduce it rather than giving tablets."
"It will be painful to her!" Aaric gritted his teeth. He felt helpless. After going through such extreme pain, his heart seems to be hurt even thinking of injecting her. If only he could take it on behalf of her, it would have been better.
"She is much stronger than you think Aaric" Alleyn felt helpless in front of this hen-pecked husband. If he had not threatened Aaric with Sasha's life on the day of her operation, he would not have allowed Alleyn to inject injections in her body.
After injecting medicine in Sasha's body, Alleyn stood up from the bed and looked at his friend who was still holding Sasha's hand. He sighed and patted his shoulder.
"I want to talk about something. Look even though I have given her the medicine, the fever is very high. Looking at her unconscious state it is not easy to comment on her health condition. Once the fever subsides, she will regain consciousness but..." Alleyn paused to take a look at his friend before continuing.
"If she did not regain consciousness within 24hrs, then there might be a high possibility that she would go back into a coma."
After saying this much, Alleyn remembered that he needed to console his wife too. So, he quickly left the room, while Aaric kept on looking at Sasha's pale face. He rang the bell and asked one of the maids to bring a clean towel and a bowl filled with cold water. He did now for how long he kept on wiping her forehead with a soaked towel until he felt slight movement from her. He quickly held her hand when she lifted her hand in the air as if trying to grab on something. Later, he could hear some mumbling sounds. He came closer to her face to hear properly.
"Aaric... is... " He could not hear clearly what message or what she was speaking. But he was sure that he heard her calling his name. He looked at her face which showed signs of immense pain. His heart felt like being stabbed as soon as he saw tears seeping out from the corner of her eyes.
He became too agitated. 'If everything would be fine nine months ago, if only she would not have suffered, this day would never have arrived.'
In anger, aaric took out his phone and searched a specific contact number in the contact list. As soon as he found the contact, he quickly tapped on the message button and sent a message on that number.
"Pull out the shares" Just one sentence was enough to create chaos on the other side of the city.
