Doubt

The next morning the office was cleaned waiting for its owner, with no sign of the previous night's rampage. When Edward entered his office, the assistant was already waiting for him with a file, about information revealed during the investigation and Hanna's details. The assistant, with a cracked rib, stared next to the table with his eyes fixed on the ground.

"Conclusion?"

Edward sat down in his chair.

"Sir, the lady was a casual worker who quarreled with a guest on her first day and was immediately fired with a silent allowance. Our man only saw him at the hotel once. On the day already mentioned, 5 weeks later, when she came to pick up the money. That is why he did not mean more importance to the woman. After the miss was fired, Mr. Dominik also ordered 3 paying ladies into his room for 3 evenings as well.

"Um, that's interesting. It sure wasn't love at first sight. What do we know about the woman?"

"Hanna Pataki, 33 years old, worked as an event organizer a year ago, her salary was 6 digits, she has 2 language exams and a diploma. Divorced, mother of two children."

"And such a woman, worked as a maid for 1 day on the Meridian…? Plus, if I look closely at the dates… immediately successfully conceived… would it be a coincidence?"

He flipped through the report. Smiling with satisfaction, he closed the folder and tossed it in front of the assistant.

"Tell our favorite reporter I have a juicy story for him."

He grinned.

"It's time to remind your favorite grandson who's the owner of the house."

Edward sent his creative story the same day to the reporter, that Hanna, whose marriage was ruined and she had lost her job, searched for a rich man to herself. He landed near the future heir of the Meridian hotel in maid disguise, and then, thanks to the great acting of a paid guest, appeared as a victim in front of Dominic, the generous hotel manager. The trembling girl was taken to his room in hopes of a new dress, but the money-hungry woman was not satisfied with that and became pregnant against the will of her rescuer. And 5 weeks later, she came hovering over the medical papers for her share, so a forced marriage took place.

"Hahaha!"

Dominic laughed until tears come to his eyes, when he received the manuscript of the article.

"What do you want, sir? Should we bring the page down?"

The reporter asked.

Edward's plan was perfect, but he forgot to reckon that Dominic's presidency was well-known, and not a single company risked such an influential man being angered.

"Sorry, just their little imaginative story is a lot of fun."

He said into the speakerphone.

"…"

The reporter did not know what to think of this comment.

" Feel free to print it."

-"Excuse me?"

He was surprised, as it puts the president's wife in a very negative light.

"You heard right, front page. Of course, by highlighting the background intent of the source. "

He grinned.

"Mr. Edward may want to avenge this on the editorial office…"

He reluctantly said.

"Don't worry, by the time my lawyers finish him, he won't have the money to call you. Of course, for security's sake, I'll support the page with a smaller amount."

"Thank you very much, Mr Menzer. God bless you!"

He said goodbye.

"Hah… what did the idiot imagined? He seriously believed there might be a chance against me…?"

Dominic laughed to himself that this stupid enemy had voluntarily handed him the tool of punching.

Although he knew the fabrication in the article was born from Edward's head, but unfortunately a few parts really became suspicious. Anyway, he planted the thought in his head.

' Why did a woman like Hanna play the maid after all? It's not just that she was over-qualified… and then quit right after the night and didn't even work anymore… .Maybe?'

"Oh no! I'm pure stupid! If she were with me for money… what would it matter? I couldn't live without her anyway..."

The thought raced through his head until he unwittingly threw it at dinner once.

"Why did a graduate woman warp to a lowly maid's job?"

He asked between two bites.

I looked at him with "what's wrong with you?" in my view, but considering that the question is legitimate… I answered honestly.

"Well, I don't really like to talk about this… because it was the low point of my life… but as my husband, you really have a right to know everything about me.

The truth is, I've been paid too well at my former company for the last 4 years. And for this action, my bosses set unrealistic expectations, which I met because I had to meet them in order for my family to have everything. Maybe that's when stress-based stomach pains started… I've been in such a bad condition for the last two years that I had to see a doctor who referred me to a psychologist.

He was Levi, who invited me to dinner for next weekend by the way… but the point was that he was already recommending a change of job, something less stressful.

Of course I didn't listen to him. However, when one day my ex-husband told me he wanted to divorce and the next day I was fired… well I literally had a panic attack on the street due to the accumulated stress. From then on, I kept every word of the doc like the holy bible, and his wife's acquaintance had this firm, so I got the job, that Levi said served my mental integrity… and maybe you would laugh, but I would probably have stayed in this profession for a long time, because it was really good to do light physics work. But then did that incident happen… I know I told you quite concisely, I don't know if you could understand it.

"Yes, everything is clear."

He smiled and scolded himself for doubting even for a moment his wife.

"I was thinking, do you might like to get to know my family?"

I asked excitedly.

"You mean?"

"Every two weeks on Sundays, the boys have lunch with my parents and I thought I'd introduce you."

"All right."

It didn't make sense to keep it a secret anyway, the article will be published on Monday… they will know what happened, even at the other end of the world, even if there are no pictures of them, sooner or later they would meet their parents to arrange things better.

"Thank you."

I smiled.

After taking a bath, as I entered the bedroom I saw the phone screen just falling asleep. I picked up the device, it was an sms.

'Can we meet tomorrow? It would be important.'

Kevin wrote. It wasn't even in my mind to meet my ex-husband together, I'll be with my parents on Sunday anyway if he wants to come too… I can't risk Dominic misunderstanding anything.

'I can't make it, I'll have lunch at Moms on Sunday, if you think we can talk there.'

'All right.'

It will be a funny meeting, I bet my head on it… to tell my parents that I have a 4 month old son and I have been remarried for a year already… let's not even talk about my husband's identity. I prepared a good thick sweater, expecting to be beated with a rolling pin.
