Chapter 4: Why didn’t you come?

- Diamonds Hotel Restaurant -

Zhao Jun arrived 5 minutes before 8pm. As soon as he stepped into the restaurant, the manager led him into the private dining room that he reserved. He felt satisfied after seeing the nicely-decorated room. He turned to the manager and said "You did a good job preparing the room. I'll make sure to reward the restaurant handsomely". The manager smiled and bowed "Thank you President Zhao" then he left the room.

The lights were dim and roses can be seen everywhere. The candles give off a romantic atmosphere. If they weren't already engaged, one would think Zhao Jun is going to propose to Wang Xiu Lan tonight. However, the truth is not far from it. Because today also calls for a big celebration. It's their 10th year anniversary.

The clock struck 8 but there is no sign of Wang Xiu Lan. Zhao Jun thought it was odd since she is known to arrive on time in every one of her appointments, especially when it comes to her appointments with him. But then he remembered that she was an hour late last night at the Wang Family dinner. Then he paid the time no mind. He continued to wait for an hour. One hour became two and he was becoming impatient. He tried to call her but there was no answer. He tried to call her secretary but there was also no answer. He didn't want to stoop so low as to contact the reception from her office and ask about her whereabouts. Rumours will spread that the great Zhao Jun of Zhao Corporation cannot contact his own fiancee. So he decided to wait a bit more. However, there was still no sign of Wang Xiu Lan. Meanwhile...

- Wang Medical Group -

Wang Xiu Lan walked out of the conference room and beside her was a 60-year old man in a suit. Following them was Chen Jun and another man in his 30s. The 60-year old man said "I look forward to our collaboration President Wang" as he shook her hand. "Thank you CEO Feng. I am sure that with this contract, both our companies are going to reach new heights". The old man laughed "Haha. I like your determination President Wang. If my grandson isn't already married, I would have forced him to pursue you. The Old Zhao is lucky to have you as his granddaughter-in-law". Wang Xiu Lan tried to smile "Chen Jun, why don't you accompany CEO Feng downstairs?". But CEO Feng went against it "There is no need. We had a long day and you must be tired President Wang. We can manage by ourselves". "I understand. See you CEO Feng". Wang Xiu Lan and Chen Jun watched the two people as they got in the elevator. Then Wang Xiu Lan started walking towards her office. "President Wang, I received news that Mr. Zhao is still at the restaurant".

"Are the reporters on standby?" she asked. "Yes, Miss President. As you instructed" he answered. "Good" she smiled. "Tell the driver I will go home in 10 mins." Then she went inside her office.

- Diamonds Hotel Restaurant -

By now it was pretty obvious. Wang Xiu Lan isn't coming and Zhao Jun had no idea why. Until now, his calls are still not getting through. Feeling dejected, he started drinking. Unbeknownst to him, Wang Xiu Lan was already at home in her pyjamas not caring a single bit about his so-called fiance.

After he emptied a whole bottle of wine, he went upstairs to his reserved room. "Damn it!" he kicked the bed. "She was supposed to spend the night with me. I was supposed to fuck her in this bed right here" he exclaimed.

Wang Xiu Lan and Zhao Jun have been dating for 10 years now but they never once slept together. The most they have done was a kiss and even then 90% of the time, they were either kisses on the cheeks or some smooch on the lips.

Due to both curiosity and deprivation, Zhao Jun has imagined it in his head so many times how Wang Xiu Lan will sound and look like when she lays beneath him begging for more and mercy. Having these wild images, Zhao Jun felt hot. He grabbed his phone and dialled a number "Baby, I'm at Diamonds Hotel in Suite 2103".

- Not long after -

A woman dressed scantily entered the room. She was wearing a tight-fitting red halter dress her long black hair swaying as she slowly and seductively approached the drunk man in the room. He was lazily sitting on the sofa. As she got close to him, he pulled her unto him until she was sitting on top him. After staring at each other, they started sharing a hot passionate kiss. Light moans can be heard. Zhao Jun said in between the kisses "Wang Fang baby, you're so much better than that sister of yours". Feeling satisfied with Zhao Jun's comment, Wang Fang started to remove her clothes.

- The Next Day -

It was a weekend and Wang Xiu Lan didn't have to go to work which is rare because she still has work to do most weekends. However, she made sure she was free on this particular weekend. She is currently having breakfast when her phone beeped. "1 new message" it says. She read the message:

"Good morning my sunshine! Would you care to have lunch with this boyfriend of yours at Callisto Café, maybe around 1pm? I won't take no for an answer xxxxxxxxxxxx"

Wang Xiu Lan cringed and she thought "Pathetic. Can he be any more obvious than this?". She then typed a reply "Sure. Be there."

Meanwhile, Zhao Jun was shocked to read the response from Wang Xiu Lan. "Does she already know? That's impossible." he thought. After a while, he brushed off this strange feeling again.

Zhao Jun had a long passionate night with Wang Fang which made him wake up later than usual. As a doctor, he is used to waking up early and having an irregular pattern of sleep. Like Wang Xiu Lan, Zhao Jun is mostly busy with managing the family business now. But he still performs his duties as a neurologist sometimes.

When he got up earlier, he checked his phone and saw a message from his assistant "President Zhao, have you seen the news? Considering the time and place of the news, I thought I should consult you so we can prepare beforehand".

Zhao Jun was a bit confused at first but then he slightly had an idea about what his assistant was talking about. He quickly checked the news. There he saw the hot topic "President of a big company caught with a different woman at Diamonds Hotel last night". He quickly read through the entire news. Afterwards, he sighed in relief. Although they posted silhouette pictures of the people involved, it was never mentioned who they were. "I can still prevent the media from digging deeper into it" he thought. "Prevent the media from spreading this news and from digging into it" he sent a reply to his assistant. After he received a "Got it, Mr. President" from his assistant he went to take a shower. He was thinking it is better to meet Wang Xiu Lan and try to clear up her suspicion while it's still early. He doesn't know that it's already too late.
