What Was Taking So Long?

Karli burst into the waiting room about half an hour later with a frantic expression. She rushed over to Claire and clasped her cold hands in her friend's warm ones. "Have they told you anything about him?"

She nodded. "Yeah. They gave him a transfusion and stitched him up. He's still unconscious but it shouldn't be long now until he wakes up."

"Oh, thank goodness!"

Karli impatiently brushed away the tears of relief that were welling up in her eyes and excused herself to speak to the woman at the front desk about Cody's paperwork. She brought it back with her to the chair next to Claire's and worked on it using a clipboard.

"You can go home now," she told her. "I'll take care of him from here. Thanks for getting him to the hospital in time."
