A Father's Regret

Morning rises, the sun rising above the horizon to wake the general populace and the animals alike. A young boy sleeping in his room awakens from the orange light of sunrise. Indux Onyxthorn, the only son of the Onyxthorn family who also is the son a successful noble named Algra Onyxthorn. Indux is a boy who is always curious, always thinking, wanting to experiment his magic and the others so he can grow more knowledgeable. The elements being Fire, Water, Earth, Wind, Ice, Lightning, Light, and Darkness. Indux has been born with Darkness element since unsurprisingly that his parents both wield Darkness element. He also know about the class system to generally gauge the individual's magic capacity and strength. Those classes start from Elementary to Transcendent.

Elementary class is the most common class because every single person reaches it at the moment of birth. Next, is Beginner, Novice, Intermediate, Apprentice, Advanced, Expert, Veteran, Elder, Master, Dragon, Divine, Ascendant, and lastly Transcendent. Transcendent is the highest class anyone could attain, but it is the rarest to ever occur. Only one person has ever reached Transcendent, but it was brief. That record was dated back almost 1500 years ago and even the most prestigious libraries fail to fully decipher the record without fearing to damage the ancient paper.

Every class is also broken down into four sub-categories: Base, Middle or Mid, High, and Peak. Once they reach the peak of whatever class, they can ascend their class to become stronger, although they wind up ascending naturally, but it slows down every time they ascend since their capacity becomes larger thus taking longer to ascend. However, ascending by gathering magic can accelerate their growth, but if the user kept charging for extended periods before they reach the 'Peak', they'll overload themselves, causing strain on their body. Plus, the time they can ascend to a higher class takes longer also. Additionally, their natural growth rate is dependent on their parents' class. The higher their parents' class are, the higher their children's growth rate. Both Algra and Zenna are in Dragon Class which allows Indux to ascend to Dragon class sooner than any normal people. After that, he'll slow down since none of his parents reached Divine or higher before Zenna's pregnancy. As of now, Indux is currently in High Novice class at the age of 5, but will grow stronger as he gets older with time.

Indux jumps off the bed and puts his clothes that is a white shirt adorned with black shiny buttons, next he takes puts on his black dress pants, and then puts on his brown slippers. He opens the brown wooden door to see Florence waiting patiently.

"Good morning, young master Indux." Florence said as he bowed, giving him a gentle smile.

"Good morning, Florence." Indux said, yawning.

"Your parents are downstairs, but breakfast will be served shortly."

"Great, I'll be downstairs."

Indux briskly walked down the wooden stairs and headed to the dining room where on the right leads to a kitchen where maids and butlers cook food. Indux sees his parents on the table.

"Morning Father and Mother." Indux said.

"Morning, son." Algra said.

"I tried to stay up to see your work...but..." Indux said, dejected.

"Worry not. I made them come late for various reasons." Algra said, patting Indux in the head. "I promise you'll see them once the job is done."

"Breakfast is served." Florence announced as the maids and butlers come around with serving plates. They place them on the wooden table and reveal its contents.

"Today's breakfast is Red Vine sandwich." he said. Indux sniffed and is delighted with the hint of spice. The Red Vine sandwich crafted in white bread, rubedo vines heated for the red look and a spicy scent, melted cheese, and cut chicken.

"Enjoy." Florence said and the family of three sat on the table to eat. As Indux bit the sandwich, his eyes lit up from the good taste.

"Indux, once you're finished, put on your shoes and be ready for school, okay?" Zenna said.

"Okay." Indux replied. As Indux finally finishes the sandwich, he leaves the table to the front door. The maids come and take the empty plate.

"Your shoes." one maid said as she brings out the black leather shoes. Indux took the shoes and put them on the floor. He then slips them in which became snug as it will not slide off as he walks.

"The carriage is ready, young master Indux." Florence said.

"I'll come with." Algra said as he puts on his black coat. Algra and Indux walk out the door to enter a carriage painted black with white accents being towed by two brown horses. The two enter the carriage and the sliding window opened.

"Where to?" said the horse rider.

"To Teraxa Elementary Magic School." Algra said. The horse rider nodded, closed the sliding window, cracked the reins, and the horses start walking.

They leave the Onyxthorn property and reached the main road paved with cobblestones along with the other carriages which are ordinary compared to the Onyxthorns.

"Are you nervous?" Algra said. Indux shook his head.

"No, I'm excited." Indux replied as he's bouncing up and down on the lush cushions.

"Before we reach there, there's something I must tell you."

"What's that?"

"There will be some other children around your age who doesn't have such luxuries, be it a mansion, a personal butler, or a luxurious carriage. At times, they have to walk since they can't afford one."

"Really?"

"Of course. Additionally, you're close to ascending to Intermediate Class which is high for a person your age. Therefore, you have talent."

"Wow...will I be strong as you?" Indux said, bright-eyed, having high expectations.

Algra chuckled "One day. Maybe you'll surpass your old man."

"When I get older, I'll be the best Darkness user there is!"

"I can't wait." Algra said, smiling has he pats his son in the head, Indux chuckled from it.

"We have arrived, sir." the horse rider said.

"I will be seeing you later. Go make some friends while you're at it." Algra said, opening the door. Indux hugged Algra.

"I will." Indux said. Indux jumped out of the carriage and looked back at his father. "Bye Father! I'll be the best user in Teraxa!" he said and excitedly went to the school. Algra waved as his son quickly become one with the crowd and closes the carriage. His smiling face slowly turned into a regretfully sad expression.

"And I hope you'll get to live your life in happiness...despite the factions and despite the elemental stigma. Both me and your mother." Algra thought to himself. "Take me back." Algra said to the horse rider. He nodded and turned his horses around to reach back to his mansion.
