13. The cookie fight

Li Na sighed as she saw the look on Luke Coleman's face. He is mentally gone in his fantasy world where he thought of many possibilities.

She saw Li Jiang rolling her eyes as she approached him. "Can you make one that is comfortable, but sword and arrow proved?"

Luke Coleman was in deep thoughts. "Swords are dangerous things. They are most of the time able to slash even trough the hard metal. Luckily for them, we found a new compound that will be able to resist some of the impacts. This time it's interesting. To find a new way to protect people is something I always wanted.''

They lived in a huge house but had servants only in the morning. In the afternoon, they usually were sent back home, as he often had new ideas and had no wish to be disturbed by unrelated people. Li Jiang and Li Na knew about it and just lived a normal life, while he would be in his underground safety room where no one could enter.

He disappeared inside his 'cave'. Li Na took one book and sat down to read, while Li Jiang looked at it. ''Fairytales? Since when are you reading fairytales?''

Li Na could see her flabbergasted expression. "I just never read the stories as I found them ridiculous. But thinking about the current situation, I think nothing is impossible."

While the two of them commented on the stories they found in their books, a young man held his box tightly and rushed towards his room. His personal servant rushed to help him out, but saw his icy expression on his face and just froze in fear. He just wanted to help, it's not like he would break it.

A sound of doors slamming shut woke him up from a daze and he rushed towards them, but found them tightly closed. ''M...Master, I am still outside.''

''Stay outside.'' Was a cold answer he got.

''But master, I must serve you. Can't I help you...?'' the servant was really curious what is going on with the young master lately, but almost jumped in fear as he heard a yell from inside.

''You are free. Go!'' It was literally a direct order and he didn't dare to not to comply with it, so he ran away as fast as he could.

The two women sat by the table and looked at the items in front of them. General Wang was famous to be simple in and out. He hated wasting money for unneeded stuff, but for his wife and daughter in law, he would always bring this or that precious item.

But in front of their eyes were so many small items that were quite precious. A whole box of beautiful white pearls. In the other box was a bunch of golden items. Then a box with five items made of jade. Headpiece for men, necklace, bracelet, tumb ring and a dagger with a precious jade handle. There was even a letter inside.

''This is something our precious Li Na found for her friend. As we didn't know his name, we couldn't engrave it, so we hope you can do that for him. I hope he will use it well. Thank you all for everything one more time.''

An elegant way of writing showed that it was a woman who wrote it, so they knew it was Li Na's mother.

Lee Meili stared at the few dozen beautiful golden accessories and shook her head. ''Instead, we give them these, they gave it to us. That child...''

"Mother, I think its more from the child's parents. The child itself made cookies right?" She turned her head towards mighty general, that suddenly froze in motion as he munched on the cookie.

"You can forget that. Next time she should bake some for you. These are mine!" He picked up the box and rushed so fast out of the room that they could clearly hear wind after him.

"Since when does my father like sweets?" Wang Weizhe knew that his son had that strange preference. But he didn't expect his father acting like a small child near those ugly things.

Yes, in his eyes they were ugly. He saw a few cookies left on a small plate and took one. With calmness, he finished it off and nodded. Ugly, but tasty. No wonder.

But strange things started happening in the general's manor. Two grown-up men chased a silent young man around the manor. Most of the servants just took the situation as if they were sparing and preparing for the future.

What they didn't know is their fiery need for sweets. Their wives brought all the sweets that they could find in the city. Unfortunately, none of them tasted even near to the little girl's cookies.

"Not giving them to us?" Old general whispered while staring at his grandson in anger.

"No. You ate it all in one go and now you have no more. By the way, father, since when did you start liking sweets?" He really wondered as his father was actually always complaining about his love for sweets.

"I tasted one of the cookies that day. By the way, that book..." He stopped chasing and went to the nearby pavilion as he had to speak to them seriously.

Wang Weiming knew that was it. So all three men just sat calmly and drank some tea that the servants brought. After that, the servants walked away as they saw their serious expressions.

"That book was read by the head of the medical department and said that it works, as he tried it. The Emperor called me to ask, what do I wish for that. I asked for a raise in the payment for all the soldiers. He asked me wanted something for myself and I asked for a gift for a young lady." He rubbed his head. "I fear the Emperor might get the wrong impression, so I said it's for your future bride." That person might even try to get him a concubine...

Wang Weiming looked at his father's face and sighed. "I understand."
