It was the next day, and we were eating lunch.
We were off to hunting again soon. I fell into a depressing rhyme again, even though I was doomed to die before I could live.
We marched to the gates, two by two. I was worn out of this life and everyday came by too quickly.
A peacefulness washed over me as soon as we started running. The wind in my hair, blowing a slight whistle through the air and wafting the scent of discarded leaves.
When I died, I'd spend my last day out here. Just running, just watching. Pretending the end was never coming, and I would live in the woods forever in bliss.
But, reality comes in like a slap.
I smiled, for the first time in awhile, and it felt, right.
I heard the tap of feet hitting the ground behind me. I looked behind me, expecting to see another one of the hunters veering off to kill an animal. That is not what I saw.
Behind me, chasing me, was a nimble, phinx like cat was behind me. My adrenaline kicked in, pushing me further, my feet pounding on the ground.
It slashed it's claws at me, and I realised it wasn't just me it was trying to kill.
Blood dripped from its sharp claws, and smeared over its lengthy body. It was truly something from nightmares. I screamed to the others, yelling at them the codes for a problem. As I was distracted, the feline seemed to know what they meant. They jumped at me, and I swung other of the way, just to late. It scraped the length up my arm, and I screamed, crimson blood running down my arm.
I kept running, taking a left turn. I was going to a circular clearing of trees, where maybe I could get further ahead and warn the camp.
It was just out of reach, but the feline was fasting. She jumped on my back, clawing around my face, scraping my body. Hot gashes grew on my body, my gear now stained a dark red.
I shook her off once, and tried to crawl myself away, but my legs were to damaged and tired to run again. The pain was getting to me, itching for me to give in to the darkness.
She had me pinned on the grown, her creepy smile spread across her face.
"Stupid little girl. Can't run fast enough to run away from us. We're coming. I'm only one. I'm the one who extincts the dragoness. I'm the feline killer."
She smiled even wider, and reared back her arm. She swung it, imediate pain burning across my skin. She left me, and ran back into the woods to kill the next one of us, my next friend to be murdered. I listened to the birds chirping away, and the bustle through the trees. I was back to being free, my pain drifting away.
I closed my eyes.
