Secrets

James sat behind his father's desk, looking at the paperwork flung everywhere. Bills needed to be paid and find his living will, then contact the attorney and set up a fund for Janie so her expenses could be paid. James looked at all pictures on the wall. He was surrounded by his family. His sister and her husband at their wedding. His parents at his Navy Graduation. Every happy moment was on display. He pulled a picture frame from the desk drawer.

There she was, his Angel. The one person who saw James for who he really was. Tears fell down his cheeks. Rebecca I need you now. I need to know if I am doing the right thing. God I miss you. Looking at her picture was no longer heartbreaking. It brought him peace for the first time in years. Next his eyes fell on Jaine's graduation photo. What should he do about her? Now was not the right time to speak the truth.

James found everything he needed. Packed it in a bag. He collected some of the pictures and added them. He gathered some of his dad's clothes. He went around and shut up the house. No one knows when anyone would be back. He looked around one last time and wondered if he would ever be back.

Jaine POV****

After three hours of looking for a decent place, we came up empty handed. Sam was getting us a couple of hot dogs and drinks while I had my toes in the sand trying not to cry. So much was happening and each minute was racing toward being alone quickly.

" Well you look deep in thought. If it's about a place, I might have an idea."

" Well mister what's your idea?" I looked up into those brown eyes and felt myself melt. Is it always going to be this way?

" Eat your food first. I know a place. After we eat I will take you there " Sam said.

We ate slowly, not talking about anything. Comfort settled in around us, I have never felt more at peace than I do sitting next to him. After eating, Sam moved over behind me. He placed his arms around me and I just leaned back and let my head rest on his broad chest. He kissed the top of my head and I thought I was going to faint. Neither of us could speak. Just being in each other's arms was enough for now.

Sam opened my car door up for me and I slid in the passenger seat. He got in and drove away. Seemed like we drove for a few minutes before we arrived at a small cottage. It was white with green shutters and a small front yard. Underneath the window was a pretty mix of flowers. Red, yellow, orange and purple flowers with tiny buds on them all. Besides the house was a garage and walk way to the back of the house. I didn't see a for rent sign in the arm.

" Sam are you sure this is available? It's beautiful. Surely someone lives here. "

" Yeah it's available for the next six months. I know the person who lives here. They are headed out on a med cruise."

Then as he said the next words, my heart fluttered as he winked and said, " This is my place. You can stay here. It's a 7 minute drive to the hospital. I paid rent up for the next six months cause I will be gone. What do you say?"
