My life after 4 years

4 years.. It has been 4 years since I saw the stranger, no longer Miguel to me, since the birth of my Mia. That was the last time I would fall in love with a man.

I was now a beautiful 22 year old woman. My short silky blonde hair outgrew to my waist, my blue eyes held no light except for my daughter and I mainted my curvy figure. Life hit me hard, I was alone, had only one friend, no family and no love but I had my Mia.

I was also a gold gem to lots of men but they knew I was unapproachable. The only thing that mattered to me was taking care of Mia. She was now 4 years old and was the light of my life. Unfortunately she had her father's hair colour but my eyes. She was kind, responsible and respectful but sometimes was stubborn and caused mischief.

I was currently working at a hotel as a receptionist. When they accepted me at this well known hotel I was suspicious. I knew that Miguel did this, since he told me that there will be a job for me after I give birth. I was reluctant at first but knew beggars can't be choosers. I had a good income, lived in a comfortable home and was happy.

"Mommy!" yelled Mia as she skipped into the living room. I was currently sorting out the bills we had to pay this month.

'I have to work double to be able to pay for my child fees this month' I thought and bit my nail.

"Yes sweetie" I said not really paying attention to her. Mia walked closer to me and tugged my arm. Her blue eyes looked sad. "Mommy doesn't want to talk to Mia" whispered Mia. I quickly turned my attention to her and placed her on my lap. I carressed her long hair."Don't talk nonsense Mia. Mommy does talk to Mia, but right now Mommy is busy. You understand right?" I asked. Although Mia was 4, she understands that I have to work hard to provide food on the table.

She nodded still with a sad expression. I sighed. "What do you want?" I asked giving in. Mia eyes lit up. "Mia want's to make a special treat for a neighbour, like we always do if a new person comes to the neighborhood" she explained.

'For a 4 year old turning 5 she talks way too much?' I thought and smiled.

I was able to rent a small but comfy house in a quiet neighborhood.

I nodded. "Sure, I'll help you after I finish my work. Ok." she nodded and went to the kitchen to grab a snack.

I sighed and looked at the paper's scattered on the table. Just then I received a phone call.

"Yes?" I answered.

"Hey! It's been a while Sasha" yelled a voice which was Layla. In these three years I moved to a place far away from where she stayed. You had to take four cabs to reach here.

"What do you want Layla?" I asked annoyed.

"Ok, don't sound so harsh." I rolled my eyes at her response.

"So how are you doing? I haven't seen you for like 2 months? Do you need help?" she asked concerned.

I stared at my daughter as she was watching the TV, happily munching on her snack.

"Everything is fine. I am an independent woman so stop asking that question everytime" I said coldly.

"Ok- ok -ok. You are so cold to me even though I'm your friend. Are you still thinking about-"

I cut her off annoyed. "Don't mention it. Now did you get what I asked for?" I asked eagerly

She sighed. "I got what you asked for. When I come back from visiting my parents, I will give it to you." she explained.

I sighed in relief. ' I'm finally going to know..' I thought.

I said goodbye and hanged up.

'Maybe I shouldn't have been so cold towards her?' I thought and felt guilty.

"Mommy can we make our food for the new neighbour now?" Mia asked.

I gave her my biggest smile. "Yep, we sure can" I said causing her to clap her hands happily. We were planning to make a big apple pie. I stared at Mia as she was searching for the ingredients while humming.

'Mia you are my bundle of joy. I'm sorry that when I first knew I had you, I was upset...but not anymore.'

~~

After we were finished I placed the pie neatly on the table.

"Oh! Mommy I forgot to tell you that teacher said to give you this" Mia said and handed me the envelope. It didn't need to read the envelope to know it was about the fees for my child. She was currently in kindergarten and it sure was expensive. I smiled and took the envelope on my hands.

'I guess double shifts again' I thought with a sullen expression but smiled at my child. Mia could tell I was upset but kept quiet not wanting to deepen my mood.

Mia and I saw the moving car parked outside the house. It was the late afternoon. Mia smiled and pulled me happily towards our new neighbour's house.

"Mommy look! The neighbour is handsome! " Mia squealed. Some of our other neighbour's were also outside since it was a custom here, to greet the new neighbour, like they did to me and Mia.

I chuckled at Mia's remark and walked towards the neighbour whose back was facing me. Mia apparently ran to him first and was happily talking to him.

"Welcome to Lady May street" I said but stopped.

The man that turned around was no other than..

"Alex!" I gasped
