Chapter 15 : Enter! Transfiguration and other classes

September 2. 1990

Antares POV

I woke up to the sound of knocking on my door. At first I panicked, than I remembered that I'm at Hogwarts.

When I opened the door I noted that the prefect looked pretty surprised at my zombie-like appearance. What can I say, I'm not a morning person.

"You have ten minutes to get ready, then we're leaving to the Great Hall." said the prefect.

"wuh?" was my intelligent response.

In five minutes I was ready and in another five I was already waiting with the rest of first years in common room.

As we walked behind the prefect I tried to remember the way we went. I'm not yet confident that I can make it to the Great Hall from my room or back but that will come with time.

During the breakfast I've gotten a response from my parents. In summary, good job but shame you're not in Slytherin.

After finishing the breakfast I went to Flitwick for the timetable.

"Here you go Mr Malfoy. Your first class is transfiguration. Mr Taylor (the prefect) will accompany you along with the other first years"

"Thank you, sir"

The transfiguration was like Harry's. We even had two Gryffindors who came late!

McGonagall showed off, twice. First the animagus then the table to pig transformation.

Our goal for the first week was to transfigure match to a needle and back.

'Okay, this is easy but let's start slowly. Direct the magic through the wand, envelope the match and change it'

I was about to cast the spell when a sudden thought hit me.

'Why not make it harder?'

'Let's change one half to iron and the second one to steel, maybe I should add some ornaments? yes, let's do that. But what kind? miniature snakes, dragons or-'

"Mr Malfoy, why are you not attempting to complete the exercise?"

'Hmmm, let's lie a bit. It's not like I would tell her the truth anyway. A bit acting should do. Let's show her a classical Ravenclaw'

"But professor, what kind of metal is it supposed to be? are there supposed to be ornaments? if yes, then what kind of ornaments? do-"

'Hook...'

"Mr Malfoy"

When she interrupted me she looked more amused then irritated.

'...line...'

"You are overthinking it, Mr Malfoy. But if you need specifics then I want steel needle without any kind of decoration"

"Thank you, ma'am"

"..Ravenclaws.." muttered McGonagall.

'...and sinker'

The rest of the lesson went smoothly. Once I showed her my needle, and gained five points for it, she left me to my own device and I could practice on making the more complex needle.

When the class ended only I, two other Ravenclaws and one Gryffindor managed to transform the match to needle.

(Time skip 1 month)

Antares POV

It's been one month since I arrived at Hogwarts and I can say that I couldn't help but fall in love with the ancient castle.

At the start I had some problems with waking up, the fact that I didn't want to in first place played a huge part in there. Thankfully we were in the care of prefects for the first week. They had to wake us up, walk us into the Great Hall then to classes and then back to Great Hall.

The library is heaven for bookworms. There's at least ten thousands of books at minimum. The library is also big mess. There is no order. There are sections but people tend to not abide them. It's perfectly normal to search for book on dragons and find it in Astronomy section. From what I gathered we can take out one book for one week then we have to give it back. If we give it back earlier than we can took out another one.

So far I took out several books on transfiguration and one book on healing.

The classes are fine. Some are really interesting and some are outright boring. It depends mostly on the teacher.

McGonagall is strict but otherwise good teacher. Her lessons are very informative and helpful.

Flitwick is very, very cheerful. He's also excited about everything. The charms are overall my favourite class.

Snape is synonymous with unsuitable for teaching.

Yes, he's very good potion master. Yes, he knows a lot about said subject. But who thought that he's suitable to be near children must suffer from severe dementia.

The teacher for DADA, I didn't bother to remember his name. It's not like he will be here for long, is good? Against somebody like Lockhart he's a God of DADA but against somebody like Lupin? Mediocre.

Binns is useless. Utterly useless. I bet he doesn't even know what happened in past hundred years.

I enjoyed history a lot in my last life and I want to enjoy this worlds history too, so self study it is.

I really enjoy flying classes. It's too bad we only have them once a week.

Astronomy is tiresome. Professor Sinistra is able to drone about stars, planets and Merlin knows what else for hours! Her monotone tone isn't helping either.

And in Herbology the plants learned by now who I am and are trying, as much as magical plants can, to avoid me. It would be funny if it didn't effect my marks.
