Chapter 6: Goodbye

James stayed the rest of the day telling me about himself and his brothers. He told me this was their pack land and that nobody would venture out here but them so I was safe to stay. He had an ease about him that made me feel comfortable. I hadn't had much human interaction in a very long time, but this was a nice change.

When it was very dark and the moon was high in the sky James packed up to leave. He left me with promises of more food and water tomorrow if I stayed. I decided I would stay just until I was healed. I hid myself in the brush again and went to sleep.

James spent 3 days with me while I was healing. He kept me company and brought me what I needed to gain my strength. Every day I found myself inching closer to this beautiful man. And everyday I found my heart beginning to open to someone for the first time. By the fourth day I was completely healed.

I waited for James to show up in the morning so I could tell him good bye. I couldn't keep taking his food and staying on his land. I had to keep roaming like I always did. I couldn't let my family find me and put others in danger. James was nice and he deserved better then me.

I saw a rabbit out of the corner of my eye and zoned in. I quietly stalked my prey as it hopped towards a tree. When it stopped to sniff the air I pounced. I bit into it's neck and ended it's life as fast as I could. I brought it back to where James and I always talked and waited patiently. I was going to give him this parting gift.
