Chapter 5 “ The END of  life as we know it”

"Danniel's POV"

After a long pause , " Boris, this is Danniel Williams. Yes, it is great to speak with you it has been a long time. Anyway what I called you for is about your grandson. He is here at my house and I think you need to be included in the discussion that we are having," Boris answered, " What has my grandson done now and how much is it going to cost me." "No sir it is nothing like that,' I said , " Your grandson came to see me because he says that my daughter is his mate." There was a long pause and he answered, " So he is not in trouble than good, He has a way of making trouble. I thought handing leadership of our pack to him would settle him down, but this just might do the trick. Ok, I will be there in the next hour do not let him leave."

Around 6 pm Boris Fitzpatrick's limo pulled up in our driveway and he was helped out by a lovely young nurse. I had heard that he was ill but I did not think that he was that bad off. As he made his way to the door I gathered my family and meet him at the door. It is only polite to great him this way since he is older and my senior. I welcomed him and shook his hand. It seemed so frail but he exuded power more than I thought he would at his age. He had a presence around him that demanded respect. I asked him to come in and join us for dinner as it was time for dinner. He accepted the invitation and came in. He bowed and kissed my wife's hand as if she was a queen he was meeting for the first time and he greeted my daughter the same way.

We went in and sat down to dinner there was not much in the way of conversation. I could tell that he and his grandson were mindlinked together and it was not a very polite conversation from the look on Jack's face. I looked around and asked Isabel, " How was your day?" "Fine." was the only reply I got. My wife asked how my day was and I told her about the meetings I had today and how the training went for the warriors. She just nodded her head in reply and kept looking at our daughter. I knew what she was thinking, because I was thinking the same thing too. Our baby has grown up and it is time to let her fly.

As I looked around the table and saw that everyone was finished eating, I asked Boris to join me in my study and left my wife to watch over Isabel and Jack. They were not happy about being left out of the conversation between Boris and I but it had to be done. I showed him the way to my study and offered him a cigar and something to drink, which he gladly took since his nurse was not with him. He said, " Thank you very much, I don't get to smoke these very often any more. My nurse will not let me do anything that may shorten my life even more than what it already is. You know one foot in the grave. I think my grandson is trying to push me in more everyday. I just can not find any thing to keep him busy." laughing we smoked cigars and drank some bourbon.  Then we got down to business. I started, " So your grandson came to me a couple of hours ago and informed me that my daughter is his mate, from what I can tell she is not to happy about this but we need to talk about it." He nodded in agreement. "As you know I am on the brink of war with the pack that lives on the other side of the Blue Ridge Parkway. They are having a boundary dispute with us. With the news today, I think that you can agree it is my packs best interest  not to come to an agreement with you about your grandson and my daughter. They have both voiced their opinion about not wanting to get married right away or at least wait till she has gone to college to get her degree.  I think that if we were to push them together to soon they will not bond right. What do you think?" Boris rubbed his head which has a lack of hair, " I think you are right but we do need to come up with some type of agreement between our families."  "What do you have in mind?" I asked. He got up and walked to the window and looked out for what seemed like ages. Then he turned and said, " Ok, I do not mind merging our two packs but our land is so far apart it will almost be impossible. So I propose that we share resources and should it come down to that hillbilly pack of dogs starting a war you are welcome to send your women and children over to my packland."

This seemed reasonable to me but there was something missing, not being covered, yes the protection of our women and children should come first, but what other resources would  we be sharing. "That sounds  good but what about food and supplies. Would you be willing to send your warriors  to help us defend our boundaries?" I asked. He replied, " Of course your family land will be like our family land and if we could buy up any land between us, that would be good then we can increase each of our pack lands and merge our borders." That would be good but most of the land between us is National Park Land." I replied, "How will we resolve this problem?  We can not just buy the land from the government can we." "I have my ways and some contacts. I believe if we don't make any improvements on the land and keep it up they just may go for it under the table." he replied. "Ok!," I said how will we keep the public from knowing about this, just keep it open to the public and our people dress as park rangers." " That is just what I was thinking." He answered. "Let's do it." I said excitedly.

"What about the kids? Are we going to have them be mated right away our let them get to know each other  by dating for awhile?" I asked. He replied to me staring off in the distance, "I think we should have them get together as soon as possible. That way there are no questions about why we are joining forces I know that it is not what they want but it is for the best for both of us."  " Sir,"I exclaimed, " I know you are old fashioned but what about their wishes. Don't they have a say in all of this?" " Right now I do not care what they think, it is better for both our packs if the mating rituals start right away." he almost yelled, but held his composer. I shrank back in my chair and answered with a meek, "OK, if you think it is best."

We then called for the kids and my wife to join us. I asked them to all sit down and Boris started speaking. " We have come to several decisions concerning you and our packs. First, the two of you will start the Mating Rituals as soon as possible. Second, I am going to get in touch with my government friends and talk to them about buying the Shenandoah Park lands. Are there any questions? No, OK." Boris said with enthusiasm. It was then that Jack stood up and started to say something, but his grandfather held up his hand and he sat back down. Isabel just looked at me and said, "Dad, how can you do this to me, I am only 19 and I haven't even gone to college yet! Why dad why?"I looked at my wife and then back to her and said, " It is the best option for both our packs. There is no other option. We will talk more later about this." She huffed and stormed out with her mother on her heels. Jack then stood up and looked at his grandfather and said," I thought I was in charge of pack business, Not you." and he stormed out too.
