Chapter 40

Irye hears faint sounds. She looks around. She is sitting on the floor in a dark place. She hears someone say something.

"Can't I take it out?"she hears someone say. Irye keeps looking around but can't find the person.

It seems she is the only person there.

"Hello?"she calls out and stands up. "Anyone here?...Hello?...Hello?"Irye walks around the place.

From walking and meeting corners, she figures it's a small room. She tries to touch and her fingers feel something. There is a wall. Irye places her ear to it and listens if she would hear something or someone outside.

"You can't Madam. It's past the duration where you can abort it."she hears someone says again. "It's more than four months, you will kill yourself if you do it and as a doctor, I can't allow that. At least not on my table."

"Name your price..."She hears another person reply. The voice sounds familiar. Irye tries to recall but doesn't get anyone who's voice sounds like that. Maybe it's because she hears it faintly, she thinks.

The one now known as the doctor talks."Madam, I said I..."

"Name your price. What is it that you want?...just name it."the voice is now a bit clearer.

"Mom?" Irye says to her herself,

confusion written on her face. The voice that sounded familiar is her mom's.

"You know I can give you anything. I think you know who I am." Irye confirms the voice. It really is her mother's.

"Madam, I don't kill people...."the doctor says. "Well...putting it in another way, I do...but not because I want to. I took an oath to take care of a patient not to kill them even if they want me to."

"I don't know why you want to abort it now but am guessing you wanted to have the babies that's why you kept this long. You should go back an rethink this. I am not going to responsible for murder." The doctor adds.

The place is silent for a while and suddenly Irye hears something again.

"Sorry but you don't have to exist. You will be a curse to me when you come out."Irye hears her mother's voice.

Suddenly, she feels like she is burning. Her whole body feels hot and she kneels on the ground and after some time, the pain does down.

Irye's breath is uneven as she looks around.

What could it be?,she thinks and tries to calm down. Irye stays there for a long time hearing things after things but something also catches her attention.

A woman is sniffling as she speaks."You really shouldn't come out to this world. Why don't you just die?" her mother voices out. "The only thing left now is to cause a fall. That will make you die before I give birth to you."

Irye covers her mouth, stopping herself from shouting. Realization hit her. Her other side had mentioned about her mother killing her child.

Could it be that she, Irye is the one being killed or that, that she wasn't the only one her mother was trying to kill. The doctor mentioned babies earlier.

Irye hears again, the voice of the woman she calls Mom.

"Falling from the stairs won't make you come back alive. Sorry but I have to do this."Abigail whispers.

Suddenly, the place Irye is standing shakes severely and she somersaults on the ground, as she hears from outside, noise of someone falling.

"No!"Irye yells and wakes up. Sweat beads on her forehead. She breathes fastly and heavily.

"Are you alright?"Irye doesn't see worried Grams beside her until she speaks.

"Oh..."Irye swallows and blinks. "Yeah.. I just...had a nightmare. Am fine, thanks."

"You sure?"Grams asks and gets a nod back as an answer. "Okay, if you say so."

"Err.. Grams"Irye calls when Grams is about leaving. "Did my mother ever fall from a staircase before?"

"Well... yeah once. You were in her womb that time. It was quite terrible."Grams recalls. But why do you ask? I don't want to think you were present. She was still pregnant with you."

"Nothing, just dreamt of her falling from the stairs."Irye forces a grin and Grams shrugs it off.

Then it must be true, Irye thinks. Things are sinking in now. She now understands the dialogue between Abigail and her shared part.

Then it must be that they are twins before one died. The one she saw when her eyes stayed black. The one who looks like her. She might be her twin.

Blake drives through the woods and come across a stream. He gets down from the car and walks to it. He cherishes the view in front of him, when his eyes set in the green far behind the stream.

"Wow, is there such a place? Am guessing it was cut out from Disneyland."he jokes and laughs to himself. He helps himself, washing his face and feeling the warmth of the water.

The sun has brightly light up the sky and the wind blowing through the trees makes Blake feel refreshed.

He walks to his right, further into the woods. He walks and walks and then he steps on something.

The thing makes a sound. At first he rules it as just a branch since he is in a place full of trees. Later he looks at the thing on the ground and his eyes widen.

At last, he finds something. Even if it is a little, he finds a clue. He holds it up. He is holding a silver bracelet.

Looking at the band of the bracelet, the name McVenus is written on it. Blake laughs out of relief.

He walks to his car drives to the place he found the bracket and parks. He will have to start from there if he wants to find Irye and her family.
