Chapter 9: Punishment

3rd person POV

Ever since the boy arrived, Sam has encountered one surprise after another. The fact that he survived a calamity that had left a scar on the Empire, his monstrous intellect was also a welcome surprise, but what takes the cake for Sam is the boy's demonstration.

One month! He had literally left for one month and yet the boy had found some weird technique, Sam could not understand how his student did this. At least his intelligence could be explained as him being a genius—that along with his odd preference for perfection and devotion to studying.

But even staying up the whole night trying to figure out a possible explanation for what he saw last night, it simply didn't' yield any result—the boy had no trace of Qi within him and scanning his meridians show that they were reconstructed and turned into an entirely new and alien system unknown to Sam. The way he also seemed to teleport was nothing short of amazing, maybe on par with legendary grade footwork techniques.

Sam's only hope to find answers was to ask the culprit himself! But the stupid brat was still asleep, even a bucket of cold water did nothing to wake him up, from this, Sam could deduce that the boy had unnecessarily been overworking himself again. Sam had mixed feelings about this, on one hand he was proud of the boy for his devotion to training, but then, he should also be fuming at this little idiot for not knowing when to quit.

'Had I not been here, this stinky brat might've passed out and starved to death.' Sam thought, not knowing it was partly his fault for startling the boy and causing him to use up chakra on the body-flicker.

Sam decided to stop thinking about irrelevant things and set-up the training dummies and practice weapons he brought along, his objective for leaving was to go buy them in the nearest city, and also replace the energy crystals he was using to maintain the barrier around the whole forest.

It took only a few hours to set everything up, this was due to Sam's strength, he could lift unbelievably heavy objects without breaking a sweat. Looking at his handy-work, Sam couldn't help but smile in glee, anyone else would grow pale and fearful if they saw the same scene.

Thorny logs as wide as an adult's waist swung back and forth like pendulums, muddy grounds and traps within every blind-spot Sam could find. Red crystals as big as a tennis ball, hovered ominously all over the hell-like obstacle course.

''Hhehehehehe.'' Sam could not help but cackle impishly as he gazed at his grotesque creation—any onlooker would have concluded that the old man was insane, but Sam could not care less. This would serve to punish his foolish disciple while simultaneously honing his reflexes. It would also allow Sam to observe the boy's newfound powers.

If it were before, the boy would not have been able to get past the starting line, but Sam had bought a special pill to forcefully awaken his dormant Qi meridians. Although It was questionable if the boy still needed the pills after his demonstration last night.

Sam left his obstacle course of despair to try his luck at waking the boy up again, he was engulfed by a sudden light and upon arrival he found the boy doing push-ups, listening to the boy, Sam was shocked to fin that this was his 9000th push-up, this should be impossible for the boy to do unless he broke through the first realm but Sam guessed it had to do with the weird aura within him. No other explanation made sense.

Before the boy could even react to Sam's presence, the old man had already grabbed him and disappeared with a flash of light towards the new training grounds. The boy's reaction to suddenly being teleported was a painful grunt and a pale face, he mustered every ounce of strength he had to not throw-up, it wasn't so much the sudden shifts in space as it was the lightshow that engulfed.

''Walk it off boy, training is about to begin.'' Sam said sternly, he wanted the boy to know he was mad his reckless actions.

One look at the obstacle course sent a shiver down the boy's spine, he turned towards Sam with watery and pleading eyes, begging to be spared.

Sam only looked at his strictly and sharply, his expression saying, 'you're not getting out of this'.

The boy sighed in acceptance, he took of his shirt to reveal a well-toned body, he had compact muscles and abs that looked harder than diamonds, his looks made handsome male models on earth pale in comparison.

The boy sighed and took his place at the starting line and did a few light stretches, he observed the contraption and formulated a plan of action.

Immediately after crossing the starting line, a red orb hurled towards him: as if magnetized. The boy's enhanced senses picked this up and allowed him to duck and let the orb pass by, but the orb changed direction and attacked the boy once more.

''Tch!!'' The boy clicked his tongue in annoyance, this would make things harder.

Without wasting time, the boy ran forward, he used chakra to enhance his strength and speed, the boy moved gracefully as he dodged the logs and red orbs which were exponentially increasing in number and chasing after him.

One of the orbs managed to hit the boy and knock him off balance, a log also swung at the boy's left flank, Sam gulped in worry, the speed and weight of the log was undoubtedly going to cause significant damage to the boy.

A sudden puff of smoke appeared, and a sound of impact resounded inside the forest, Sam hissed instinctively while rushing towards where a shadow had flown out of the smoke. He was also curious at the smoke that appeared before the boy was hit but now his focus was on making sure the boy was okay. He admits that he may have been a little hard on him.

He arrived at the boy's location; besides a log the boy was nowhere to be seen, Sam could only scratch his head in confusion, but his query was soon answered. He heard metals clashing and when he looked back at the obstacle course, he saw the boy, he held a knife in his hand and deflected the red balls speeding towards him. He did all this while progressing through the obstacle course.
