Chapter 8: Improvement
Mc's POV
The days went by in a blink of an eye, the old man and I had made slight progress in our relationship and talked more about general topics besides training—although it was mostly the old man who told me about his adventures.
I had kept the information about chakra and the system a secret for the time being, I wanted to firstly observe the difference before telling the old man and hopefully surprising him. After reading more about chakra from the scrolls I had increased my training and I even bought a basic hand—seal scroll which cost 800NP , I used the scroll to increase my experience and familiarize myself with hand-seals and increase my speed when weaving them.
I was currently only doing the 'leaf concentration exercise' since from my understanding after reading the scrolls, my chakra reserves were still low sand my control over it was crude, therefore, I need to focus on reducing wasted chakra before trying to increase it.
So far my experience with chakra was enlightening to say the least, unlike Qi which was absorbed from the surroundings by humans to increase strength, chakra was unique to an individual and had a lower permanent strength increase, unlike qi, I could only temporarily enhance my body and senses.
As for how effective it would be—I needed to have a higher control over it to know.
I could also train openly since the old man had left and said he'd return in one month, he refused my company and told me to train instead, negative thoughts of him abandoning me had plagued my mind but after some time I decided to calm myself and trust him. He must have a reason for leaving.
...…1-month time-skip
After a month of strenuous and painful training I had finally succeeded in the three basic exercises on chakra control, in the beginning sticking a leaf onto my head and circulating chakra allowed me to stick it for a few seconds but after 2 days I could stick it for an extended period of time and after a week I could stick multiple leaves for as long as I pleased without my concentration breaking.
From there I only needed three days to do the tree walking exercise and one day for the water walking exercise due to some of the similarities with the tree walking exercise, this in my eyes was not a bad outcome considering I had nothing besides a few scrolls at my disposal. The euphoric and warm feeling I felt whenever I used chakra was almost as good as walking on water and defying gravity by sticking to object like a magnet.
Most of my time was then spent studying the two jutsu I had from the system. On my first trail of the body flicker technique— the scroll said to use the tiger seal and using chakra to vitalize my body. My first try was somewhat a success, ignoring the fact that I moved too quickly to regather my balance and ended up falling face-first on the dirt. From there I just needed to get used to the feeling of instant movement and accurately judge the distance I needed to cover.
I also practiced the 'body replacement technique' and I managed to get a decent result when using it the only question now was if I could use it effectively in battle and get the jump on my enemies.
I stopped training and took a bath, it was the only relaxing activity I had the chance to do this past month since I spent most of my time training or studying all I could about chakra and the system but even the old man's book didn't have any information about someone with circumstances similar to mine.
I was an oddity; this was very apparent since I just appeared in this place with no recollection of who I was and a few months after I gained a system and the ability to control chakra, both of which felt familiar—like I should know about them. It was an annoying and frustrating feeling.
After I was done with my shower, I went ahead and started preparing enough food for two at least four people, most of it was for myself while the rest was the old man's: he said he'd be back after one month.
The sun ducked behind the mountains and nighttime descended, with no sign of the old man—I went to meditate while I waiting, I could also use this time to try and get a grasp on the shape transformation portion of chakra.
I sat down and meditated, after an hour or so I stood up and circulated chakra towards my right hand, a warm feeling erupted from my stomach area. I controlled the chakra inside me and tried to control and move it within my chakra paths. Since chakra could only be released from the tenketsu in my hands and feet I had to focus of either one of those, I released chakra from my hand and then used it shape it into a sharp blade around my hand. Everything was going smoothly, and success was almost within my grasp, but I lost control causing the chakra to dissipate and lose shape.
I grunted in frustration, but failure was just the first step in learning so I tried again, the result was the same over and over again until I eventually ran out of chakra, anymore and I would pass out.
I let out a tired sigh, I was about to go to bed when I felt a disturbance behind me. I didn't think twice and flickered forwards draining the last drops of chakra I had left, I skidded on the ground and turned to look at the intruder, relief swept over me when I realized it was just the old man. He was gaping at me—as if I had grown a second head.
'' You can-.'' I was about to berate him, but my vision became hazy and my eyelids felt heavy, I fell to the ground and lost conscious.
