Chapter 19: Departures
3rd person POV
It took Lethe 3 months to get used to his new chakra, he had to re-learn everything from scratch. While also trying to advance his cultivation ( currently low qi liquification stage.)this wasn't because he was a genius or anything—it was simply because he skipped the first stage since he was focused on his dantain and not his body
His chakra had become 'heavier' than before. Meaning he now had to put in effort to gather it wherever he wants, his speed would decrease somewhat due to this. This was not a good thing in his eyes, since he'd rather have more powerful chakra while still being able to use it as fluidly as before.
To better explain his power: it was a mixture of liquid qi and his chakra, this caused the properties of his chakra to also change somewhat, especially in concentration, it also gave his chakra a higher density. His qi reserves were very little though and harder to replenish. Currently he could enter the empowered state for about 20 minutes before his qi ran dry, it took half a week to refill his reserves.
The power-boost was more than worth it for Lethe though, basic A-rank jutsu could theoretically compete with quasi-S rank jutsu, he also had much higher chakra control. The only disadvantage was the fact that formally, his whole body was the vessel of chakra (most of which was concentrated in his stomach area.). Now he needed to pull chakra from his dantain and circulate it constantly.'
He could leave it inside his dantain, but if the situation required a split-second reaction, he'd most likely fail to react in time. Due to how differently his chakra acted now, as opposed to before. In the beginning, it was hard to do this but as time went on it started becoming less of a burden and more of a habit he eased into.
....
Lethe's POV
''Wow, how long does it take you to increase your qi?'' Sam asked, he was aghast at the resources needed to be spent on me. The first month consisted of me consuming purified qi crystals only to receive little advancement in my reserves. My body could only refine so much of this foreign energy, giving resources with low qi also meant my yield was lower. (A/N:Purified Qi crystals- Qi that had been solidified by the outside forces. Before being mined and purified by alchemists.)
I had decided to sell some of the pills, one went for 3 million points, and Sam seemed to have hundreds of them so he wouldn't miss a 9 or so pills, right? That was up for debate. Meh, I'm sure he'd understand.
'Yep, that was a total lie. The old man would probably go on a rage fueled rampage trying to tear me apart if he ever knew. ' I shuddered at the stray thought and decided to back-out on my plan to tell him.
''Rome wasn't built in one day, I'm sure overtime we'll get the fruits of our labour. Besides I've become super ripped after that procedure.'' I comforted Sam and started posing and showing off.
My already chiseled frame was now godly, my skin was soft and bouncy, and my diamond abs somehow became even more… I think perfect is the word. My muscles reached maximum compression and started bulging sightly.
''Tch, greedy imp. Can't wait till you leave.'' Sam joked, although it looks like I really did put a dent on his wallet.
''Aw, come on, let's focus on the good of this matter. We discovered a powerful new power source. We also made a medical break-through on your poison if you think about it.'' I decided to give Sam some hope.
''What do you mean?'' He asked, clearly confused.
''You're too focused on only me old man. You do remember you're still cursed right?'' I teased; Sam made a sour face a raised his hand, ready to slap the shit out of me for making such an insensitive joke I presume.
''W-wait old man, let me finish. Since chakra seemed to be able to meld Qi together and revitalize it, and the poison that's affecting you is slowly infecting your qi no matter how you try to expel it. We could build a sort of mechanism that pumps chakra into you daily and keeps your Qi from deteriorating, like a dialyses machine.'' I suggested.
Sam just looked at me, mouth agape. He stood there for five seconds before he started laughing as the realization hit him, he also ignored the last part since he knew it was some Earthling term.
''it's a great idea boy, we'd better get started then.'' Sam proposed, he left me with vails of his Qi for experiments. ( it was gold in color, but a disgusting purple seemed to be encroaching on it.)
''Some things never change.'' I shook my head and chuckled before I also went to work.
...... 4 months later
After months of continuous failure, we finally created a functioning device that could store and administer chakra to Sam, the device was a hibernation pod. It would place Sam in a deep sleep and only needed to be charged once a month. Sam would alos be in an induced coma.
The pod was only a temporary solution until I could find another way to cure Sam's illness. It may take a while, but the pod would buy me more than 20 years, Sam originally had only 3 years left.
'I just wish I could sell all those precious metals.' I lamented internally; the materials used to build the pod were extremely valuable (enough to cause the system to actively inform me.)
Sadly, Sam had depleted them all on the device, but he did give me a valuable crystal to make up for it. Although not worth as much as the alloy, it still went for 6 million points, not having to work for them made things even better.
Overall, my accumulated points were a little over 15.8 million. With this I could buy the another legendary kirigakure sword samehada's cost was about 20 million points which was way above the others—even if I combined the other swords. Its only flaw was the whole chakra preference thing.
Besides the swords, I could buy a powerful bloodline, but I decided to save up for either the hyuga bloodline or the Uchiha bloodline. After that, maybe I could acquire the Hamura Otsutsuki's bloodline and acquire the tenseigan
'Haa…. that's going to take a while.' I remarked, the price of the otsutsuki bloodline was way above the norm, a whooping 1.2 billion points even Hashirama's sage body is cheaper. Only the tailed beasts altogether could exceed its price and it was only by a few million.
''We're finally done boy.'' Sam pulled me out of my thoughts, his eyes were glowing as he looked at the product of our hard work, but I could also see unwillingness in his eyes. He didn't seem to want to spend an indefinite amount of time just sleeping. Sam considered it wasteful.
''Relax old man, it'll only be a few years. Worry about yourself for once.'' I comforted and reprimanded him at the same time, I knew he was thinking something along the lines of not being able to help me or something.
''Haa, I guess you're right boy, but as a teacher its also part of my job to worry.'' He replied, his voice was soft and weaker than normal.
''I'm strong enough to hold my own against a huge percentage of this world's inhabitants. Instead of worrying, we should use this time to say our farewells until we meet again.'' I spoke firmly, and channeled my empowered chakra to further emphasize my point, red arcs of lightning started crackling violently on my hand right now I coukd rival kage in raw power alone and once I mastered my power then I'd attain a rank only lower than God of shinobi. A kage in this world could take on peak core formation cultivators and out of every 1 million people only 10 people could atain this rank. From what I heard the planet had tens of trillions of people so still needed to be careful.
''Fine, just don't blame me when someone bullies you or something.'' Sam said with a smile, he started ruffling my hair, causing the already messy hair to become even worse.
''Hahahaha, this young master will beat anyone who dares to beat me.'' I imitated characters from a lot of novels I read back on earth.
''You're such a brat.'' Sam shook his head with a small smile on his face.
''Hehehhe, don't shower me with such kind words.'' I shamelessly started laughing as if Sam had praised me.
''You're skin is thicker than Enswood's walls.'' An irritated Sam commented.
''You mean the city north of here? It has walls?'' I asked, I had learned from Sam that the empire was divided into five regions, namely the North, South, East, West, and Central region. The locations were pretty self-explanatory. I had also learned a few months ago that we were currently in a small region of the South part of the empire. Sam had asked for rights to the land, this explained the lack of hunters and why the strongest beast was only peak rank 6. The old monster was slaying the poor beasts, he basically destroyed the eco-system for his kwn convenience. Although most humans back on Earth also did that on a daily basis so I really couldn't judge him.
''Yes boy, how else do you think it can defend against invasions.'' Sam rolled his eyes and replied as if it was the most obvious thing in the world. Sadly my life back on earth meant I hadn't ever seen such a defense system. After all, what can a tall wall do against a missile bombardment? Maybe there was more to it.
''Such a primitive form of defense, aren't you people able to fly?'' I probed for more information, while stroking my chin.
''The wall is inscribed with barrier formations that enclose the city in an energy dome. The physical wall is just meant for small fries.'' Sam replied. It wasn't like it was a secret or anything.
The two kept silent and did their own thing, Sam was inspecting the pod while I just watched with boredom. We called it a day after a few more hours, both of us took a bath and had some dinner. Sam helped me practice and polish my skills and after Sam started recounting stories of his adventures. We went to sleep a few minutes after.
This was our routine for the next week, on the dawn of the first day of the second week. We reluctantly woke up, neither of us ready for what was about to come.
''I guess this is it boy, I won't be seeing you for a while.'' Sam said with a gentle smile. I couldn't stop myself from clenching my fists in anger, anger at the man who did this to my teacher and towards my self for not being strong enough to find another solution. I tried to speak but my voice cracked.
''I-it'll only be for a few years don't be upset.'' Sam comforted me with a hug and some soothing words.
''Till we meet again.'' Sam said as he entered the pod.
''See you soon old man.'' I waved at him with a smile, the pod's door closed itself. A strange series of lines ran along its surface before the pod shrunk until it would be able to fit into my palm. I took the small pod and sealed it in one of my scrolls before sealing the scroll inside my bracelet.
I wept silently for a few minutes, already missing the eccentric old man. I took one last look at the cottage before leaving and heading towards the nearest city which according to my map was a month's walk from here.
.......
And thus, the teacher and student arc concludes here. Please support my with your power stones. Maybe I'll even increase the amount of chapters per week. I probably won't
