False or Real Affection? Pt.2

Focusing her mind back on the conversation she was waiting to see the true reason behind the call. Her mom rarely ever called her on shopping trips unless she needed something. Therefore she doubted the call right now was just a 'casual' one. Making jokes about where she was and her brother's supposed love was just a time-pass. Just when she felt impatience rise in her, she finally heard the crux of the matter.

"Well, don't overspend but make sure you keep an eye out for any nice dresses. We have a gala in two weeks that you will need to attend. Its for upper society only and is important to your father. Make sure you look good, I can go with you to shop tomorrow if you don't find anything. Or we can rush order from one of the popular designers, either way its best if you look first."

'And there we go...'

She held a mocking smile as she took in her words. This was a gala she had attended in her past life, she got a similar speech the last time and spent a lot of time to find a dress. She wasted many hours and dollars to have a special dress ordered from one of those 'popular' designers her mother mentioned.

Her eyes turned cold while she remembered the event in detail. The amount of deceit and humiliation she felt that day made every moment rememberable. It was a nice night in the beginning but everything ended horribly when she realized the dress was a copycat of another's. The situation could have been salvaged if not for the other intentionally mocking her and framing it as she had done it on purpose. Whatever friends she thought she had, left her to die. Not even one word of defence was spoken for her and they were quick to cut contact after the incident.

Her position in society was very high but more subtle since she did not get involved much. So without a striking presence it was easy to pin such a claim on her. Then ultimately plunged her social status into the garbage.

'I was really a fool back then, so easy to bully.'

Her feelings were bitter, she really could not come to terms with how she used to be with the knowledge she had now. She may have not gotten any special advancement skills with her rebirth but knowing the future held its weight in gold.

"Mei Lin? Mei Lin?! Why are you not answering me." The voice of her mom shouting echoed out the phone snapping her back to the conversation. She was still partially listening but tuned it out near the end since she knew what the conversation was. There was really nothing else important in that conversation other than the gala happening and so quickly.

"Yes, sorry. The connection was a little finicky."

"Hmph, okay. I don't know where your head has been at but remember what I said. You must find a good dress as soon as possible, if we had more time to prepare I would have done it for you. I'm in a rush trying to find mine and prepare your father's suit that I can't do yours as well."

"That's fine, I'll find a good dress don't worry. If that's it let me hang up now, I need to search for this dress."

"Okay okay, don't stay out too late. Just call the chauffeur when you're done, be back by dinner. Alright, goodbye then."

She didn't have to speak any ending greetings as he mom just cut the call after she was done. The ringing dial tone went on for a while before she slipped her phone back into her purse. The coldness in her eyes became something of excitement. This was her first chance at changing her fate and she would not let it get away.

With that, there was no way she was going to forget about her revenge as well. Yes, she had death flags in her family but other than them did she have to let herself be bullied? Absolutely not. All those little incidents that she allowed herself to suffer through would be paid back in full, even if they had not done it in this life yet they would if given the chance.

Her first target was the 'lovely' ring leader behind her dress debacle. There was no way that the copying of the dress was coincidental. Her only question was who was behind it?

The target's name was Chen Chunhua, her name meant spring flowers but she was anything but that. It was more fitting for her to be a poisonous flower, something like a venus fly trap. Drawing people in with her outside appearance but attacked when they were within her grasp. She was a typical green tea b*tch, innocent but hidden intentions. So in terms of suspect list she was at the very top.

She knew that while holding a more reclusive position, her weight was still there. Chunhua was against her from the very beginning, holding some sort of enmity that came out of nowhere. Maybe she saw the importance of the gala and felt like this was her moment to shine? With most of high society gathered in one spot, it was the perfect stage for this type of crime.

Though there were still the specifics to consider, like how did she know and why did the designer agree. The designer could have done it for money but there should be some fear to move against her family. She may not be a threat but her family was not the same, so the designer did this in full confidence no one would seek retribution on it. Just what amount of money and backing would make the situation logical?

There was also a point she had to consider, which was her brother. With him, or him at least taking advantage of the situation would make sense. But if it was true, this situation had more layers and became a lot more sinister.....
