The Draw

I woke up rather early considering we had gone on a break at the college. I was too anxious about what the vampires wanted with our blood. Jacen still hadn't gotten any information about when we were supposed to go through with this, nor did he receive any information about their intentions. I found it rather difficult to wait so long for them to make a decision. Finally, the day came! I was in the middle of fixing lunch for the picnic Jacen and I set up the other day when he came through the door saying that he finally had a time and place for us. I gathered Dad and Anthony into the kitchen to get them ready for our next step in making the treaty. Jacen said, There's an old hospital a couple of towns over that the vampires use for their experiments. They want you three to go there so that you can have your blood drawn as agreed." We all wondered what they were going to do, though Jacen only knew that we were supposed to be there at exactly 1400 (2 pm) as stated by Malici himself. we packed the picnic materials back into the fridge and cabinets knowing there would be no time for it. Jacen drove us to the hospital and wished us well. It had been almost 2 months after meeting the vampires for the first time and there was the same ominous feeling as the last time. We all walked in going up the stairs, down the hall, and around the corner to the second door on the right. We walked in to see the strangely familiar face of a Janitor. This wasn't just a janitor, we all knew that face from somewhere but couldn't for the life of us remember exactly how we knew this janitor. His name tag read "Aurelius" and it clicked, "Marcus? " I asked. The man nearly jumped out of his skin when he heard that name. At the moment I said it amazement appeared on my father's and my brother's faces. The man began to back away asking how I knew that name. I explained, I am John's granddaughter and grandpa always said that you were a crazy Shakespeare fan. Always quoting his words as you worked, and that is actually how you and grandpa officially met. You were quoting Hamlet's to be or not to be as you were checking to see if any of the boards were warped, saying to be if they were fine and not to be as you tossed the warped ones into the pile to be turned into mulch." The look on his face went from fearing for his life to one of awe. He said, "I haven't been called Marcus in 37 years." I tried to hug him and ask if he knew where grandpa had disappeared for all these years, but he backed away from me muttering that it was all his fault. He ran to his cart and disappeared through the door behind him. I was about to chase after him when Malici walked in asking if we were ready. We all looked at one another and gave each other the nod and looked to Malici saying that we were. We walked into what appeared to be a large donation room knowing that this is probably where they got most of their blood. The other three Generals were there waiting saying that they would be the ones to do the draw as it is difficult for a vampire to focus around blood. I didn't know whether to be relieved by this or worried that they might just kill us after getting our blood. Either way, it was too late to turn back now so I simply sat in the nearest chair. I watched intently as Titan stepped toward me and the others did the same with my brother and my father. I asked what their intentions were hoping not to hear something about the destruction of werewolves. Though what I heard was something completely outside of anything I have ever imagined they would do. They said that they wanted to see if they could turn other animals into werewolves or if it was restricted to humans. The group said that they had tested if vampirism could be transferred to other animals and found some success with deer, dogs, and a few others. Although they had no control so they had to be terminated. Their experiments had actually been the birth of the chupacabra legend. The dogs had managed to escape their containment system and traveled all across the country attacking the livestock of farmers and even eating some of the unlucky men, women, and children. They said that they were able to spread roomers of aliens and government experiments as well as a few others to keep the vampire community a secret, though they never were able to capture all of the chupacabras. They are quite an elusive species and even if the only way they could make more of them was by another dog accidentally ingesting their blood in a fight quite a few had come into being. Even so, they said that they found several of them over the years and took out as many as possible. They reassured us that they had enhanced their containments to withstand anything. They began to stick the needles in and wait for a sufficient amount of blood to be drawn. The draw seemed to take a lifetime, they said that they wanted to get as much as possible so they went as slow as they possibly could so that they didn't put our lives in danger. They even brought us orange juice and cookies to help with the renourishment of our bodies. After the draw, it was virtually impossible for us to stand due to the amount of blood they took. so they wheeled us down to the parking lot where Jacen waited. He was furious to see our condition saying that they told him that we would not be harmed. Malici stepped in saying that we in fact had not been harmed but we were too weak from the amount of blood drawn to stand. Jacen was even more furious than before saying, "You could have killed them, There's no reason for you to nearly empty them." Malici stated, "I am rather a professional at this and I kept a close eye. Nothing was ever going to happen to them." Jacen breathed slowly and he regained his composure. He looked worriedly into my eyes as if to say I am so sorry for this. I shook my head to say that there is nothing to be sorry for, it's not your fault. He quickly got us into the car locking the doors as he got in. He stared at the Generals that had escorted us to the car as they walked into the hospital to begin their experiments, his eyes full of discontent.
