Squawk! Chapter 28

Meanwhile in the back garden, a bird was chirping and sunset was in about two or three hours.

Evergreen, Ophelia, and Miriam went into to back garden and Miriam itmediatly began to look at the flora located in their backyard.

A Monarch butterfly balanced itself on a tall branch of Milkweed. Pointing towards the butterfly, she asked the other girls if they knew what it was called.

"Do either of you know what that butterfly species is called?" Miriam asked.

The twins proceeded to look at each other and not know what to say.

Evergreen finally took a guess and and said," Looks like it should be called the Black and Orange Butterfly. Look at the colors on its wings."

"Thats a good guess, but it's actually called. Monarch Butterfly." Said Miriam to the twins whilst pointing at the butterfly.

"How do you know thats what its called?" Said a boy with fair blond hair coming out into the backyard with Bannon following behind him.

A frown apparant on his face.

Miriam replied calmly, "Because I learned it. Why do you call the sky blue? Because you learned it's the color called blue."

Ophelia let out a little giggle at this remark.

"Then why is it called. Monarch butterfly? Our great country doesn't have Monarch." The blond haired boy retorted.

"Jeremy, don't be rude to Miriam..." Evergreen chided her little brother.

"Why should I be courteous, she suddenly showed up calling herself our little sister. Our family doesn't need any illegitimate children in it. I overheard Francine say so." Jeremy responded to Evergreen.

At the mention of illegitimate children Bannon winced abit.

Looking at the obviously mistaken boy, Miriam replied, "If your names Jeremy, your not even part of my family, so don't worry. Your not a Stuart. You nose looks nothing like my fathers, and not like your sisters. You should obviously have some common sense little boy. Who is illegitimate here? Who's daddy abandoned who?" Miriam said with a little smile on her face.

Evergreen and Ophelia looked at each others noses and then looked at Jeremys and indeed his nose looked not like theirs, or their mothers or fathers.

The wheels in Evergreens heads started turning. She looked at Miriam carefully and noticed a few similarities between her and their father. Deciding to look over Bannon, she was surprised that he looked almost 80% similar other than his eyes and hair color.

Jeremy turned green in the face at this accusation and was about to bark back when Bannon interupted them.

"Miriam and I live at the Stuart main estate and she's his former wife's daughter. Her mommy died a few years ago." Bannon said somewhat softly not wanting to bring up sad feelings in his bossy little sister.

Suddenly a loud squawk that Miriam was very familiar with was heard.

Looking up a parrot with gold black and blue underpants flying in the sky.

The other kids also noticed the bird in the sky and upon seeing its size itmediately thought it to be a hawk or the like.

"Ah what a weird little hawk that is!" Exclaimed Jeremy in excitement.

The twins moved to underneath a gazebo in the backyard because they got spooked by the bird flying above the house.

The bird kept circling and calling out.

Miriam set her bag down in a corner of the garden and put her finger in her mouth and let out a loud whistle. Well, as loud a whistle as A little girl her size could make.

She extended her arm out as much as possible and stood still.

The bird circled over head for a moment before slowly descending and landing on her tiny army.

Miriams arm almost collapsed under the weight of the fat parrot.

Upon landing on her arm Miriam itmediatly noticed something was wrong with the bird.

Part of its wing was slightly red.

The two little boys came running over and Miriam held her hand up and out to them before putting her finger to her lips in a shushing motion.

Jeremy tried to talk still but Bannon stopped him with his hand over his mouth.

Looking closely at the parrot, Miriam knew it was a Pale Rosella Parrot. Using her free hand and moving it away from her lips she slightly pulled a feather apart from another and saw a nasty looking blood feather.

Sweat itmediatly appeared on Miriam small ivory colored forehead.

Bloodfeathers were serious business in birds, and if action was not taken itmeditely the bird could easily die of bloodloss.

Beatrice at just come out into the yard and noticed some type of parrot on Miriams arm when Miriam waved her over.

"Beatrice can you sit down quickly?" Miriam asked.

Beatrice wanted to ask why but decided to humor Miriam and sit down.

Miriam carefully but quickly walked over to Beatrice and lowered herself to the ground.

"Beatrice I need to put the bird underneath your skirts to remove something from it."

"What, No Miriam that is improper and uncalled form" Beatrice replied to Miriam.

Maybe she had given the little girl to much of a free reign so she had started to go out of control now.

"The bird will bleed to death if I don't remove the blood feather. The wound won't close until the broken blood feather is removed. I need to cover the bird with a blanket or cloth to keep it calm and from hurting itself or others. If you don't want to help save a beautiful parrots life then let me go inside to do it instead. Time is of the essence right now." Getting abit worked up, Miriam raised her voice a little and the twins across the yard heard her words.

They scampered over and looked at the beautiful bird that was obviously not a hawk.

Ah, they couldn't let such a pretty bird did over such a thing!

Ophelia spook up this time in favor of Miriam to Beatrice.

"You have to help Ms.Beatrice, the beautiful bird will die. What if she has baby eggs? Her eggs will not hatch if she the mommy doesn't sit on them."

Miriam decided to not tell them that this bird most probably didn't have any eggs laid.

Beatrice grimaced but complied. She just hoped none of the older inhabitants of this household saw her shenanigans from inside.

Miriam slowly hovered her extended arm over Beatrices skirts and petted the parrots head softly before suddenly trapping it beneath Beatrices skirts fabric.

The bloodfeather was luckily on a part of the bird that Miriam knew would not be attached to bone.

In her last life as Veronica, she had also studied veterinarian medicine and more extensively veterinarian medicine of avians.

Knowing she needed to act quick, she was getting ready to pull the blood feather out when she remembered she had no powder agent to poor over the wound afterwards to help stop the bleeding.

Raising her head, her blue eyes looked around and then spotted the twins.

"Do you guys have flour at home?" She asked rather nervously.

Evergreen piped up, "Of course we do, why?"

"I need a cup of flour please. Double check to make sure its flour and not anything else. Its ro cake over the qound to help dry up and stop any bleeding ."

The explanation made sense to children not trained in medicine so Evergreen ran into the house to go fetch some.

Gently talking to the bird, it stopped wiggling in the fabrics. Miriam took its pulse to make sure it was okay, and it seemed abot lower than a normal birds but it was still somewhat stable.

Everyone waiting for Evergreen to return to the back yard, Jeremy however wanted to come take z closer look at the bird but Miriam gave Bannon a look and he promptly stood in Jeremys way like a good little boy.

Jeremy, mad that his supposed new lackey was going against him, started to try and get past Bannon by force.

Sadly for Jeremy, Bannon was quite abit larger than other boys his age and without to much effort exorted on his part, managed to block him successfully.

A minute or two later Evergreen came bounding out the house with small gray ceramic jar painted with violets around the top of the jar in a ring.

Slinking out of the house behind her quietly was Henry the proclaimed maternal cousin.

This time of course his violin not in hand.

Miriam ignored the youth snooping in the backround on them.

He didn't want to talk about music with her, so she naturally didnt want to talk to him about ANYTHING.
