Beatrice The Shelf Chapter 31

Once Miriam had finished explaining about the pinfeathers, she went to work about removed them, she was done just before the sun started to set in the sky.

Boy, whoever owned this poor fella before was obviously an amateur bird owner. Not taking care of its pinfeathers! It made Miriams blood boil.

It should be said that in her last life Miriam volunteered on weekends to use her veterinary degree to help shelters around her area to treat birds.

During the roughest and most loneliest times of her childhood, her cockatiel kept her sane.

Not having any human friends Miriam was forced and blessed to instead have many animal friends.

If she could in this lifetime, she wanted to spread awareness about environmental protection of species. Maybe some of the birds from her previous life wouldn't be extinct or badly endangered if she worked hard enough in this life.

One such bird Miriam had always wanted to meet was the Carolina Conure.

Looking at the parrot, she knew it needed a cage and harness as soon as possible.

"We need to get the parrot a cage and a flight harness." Miriam stated as she looked at parrot.

Evergreen looked at Miriam weirdly, and asked, " What does it need a flight harness for? It can already fly."

Miriam gave a bemused look to Evergreen, before opening her mouth to speak further on the subject.

"A flight harness a like a lead that one would use for a dog or horse. It is a harness that goes around the birds torso and you hold one end of the leash tightly or tether it so the vird can fly around option the open untrained, without getting lost."

Explained Miriam to Evergreen.

"We need to visit a leatherworker tomorrow. I'm not sure what all my dad planned this trip but I am sure I can convince him to help cover the expenses for the harness. He once promised to get me a dog and some pet birds.

Tsk tsk tsk."

"I don't know if he'd want to go out to town with me, hmmm, hey Henry...." Miriam said noticing Henry was still in the room.

Looking towards Miriam he didn't say anything in response.

Miriam could tell this boy was one of those quiet but not shy kind of guys.

"Do you think of we stuck some fake facial hair on Henry we could pass him off as an adult? Then maybe we could just go by ourselves. He is kind of tall for his age group." Miriam announced and asked the two twins next to her.

Beatrices face flushed red. What was this little girl talking about doing now!

"Utter nonsense, I would never go around doing such a preposterous thing." Henry exclaimed whilst still maintaining his indoor voice.

"What if it was on a bet? I dare say youths your age bet on stupid stuff all the time." Retorted Miriam with a silly smile on her face.

The sh*t eating grin that Miriam had on her face as she assumed this about Henry made him a little ticked off.

"Ah you look interested...your violin is very nice, I'm sure the sound it produces is simply splendid. I wonder if you could play a certian piece I know." Miriam said these words as she handed the bird to Beatrice to hold onto.

Beatrice felt that her life now revolved holding Miriams things. Ah, even though her services didn't cost to little, why did she still feel like she was a very cheap version of a movable shelf?

"Do you know Caprice No.24 by Paganini?" Large blue eyes twinkled like they jad millions of tiny stars in them as they asked Henry if he could play one of the most excruciating violin pieces a violinist could play.

Miriam moved swiftly towards Henry and upon arriving in front of him wiped her hand off on her skirts, and then extended it in a manner a gentleman would try and shake hands.

Seeing the proffered and open hand, Henry couldn't quite decide what to think of a little girl trying to shake his hand as if she was trying to make a deal.

"If you can play the first half I'll consider that good enough, but if you cant you got go out into town to accompany us." Said Miriam to Henry with a wink of left eye.

A bigger frown appeared on Henrys face.

"You know people have to practice before they can play a piece out of the blue right?" Remarked Henry to Miriam in a bit of disdain.

"Oh really? Huh. Okay. Nevermind then. I will just convince my father to accompany us to go get bird supplies. Speaking of father, I'm surprised he hasn't sent anyone to fetch us kids for bed yet." Miriam stated before pondering abit out loud.

Dropping her held up and outstretched hand, Miriam walked back over to where Beatrix was standing and took the bundled up bird into her arms once again.

"What shall we do with you tonight....Also what is your name? You silly parrot haven't said a single word yet." She cooed to the bird and extended her finger to rub the top of its head once more.

"Vhuuu, Vuuuuueehw!" The parrot whistled a few notes that sounded like a harmonica.

Ophelia had a look of astonishment appear on her face. It was obvious she had never interacted with a parrot or parrot-like bird before.

"I'm going to go find your father and figure out where you both are sleeping tonight. I'll be back soon. Stay out of trouble Miriam." Beatrice said, sending a quick glance towards Bannon and Miriam before she exited the room.

Bannon still held Miriams bag in his hands. she hadn't yet told him to put it down afterall.

Looking at Henry, Evergreen asked a question that had been bothering her for a while now.

"Henry, why are you in our room? You seldom come talk to us. Usually, you only want to talk to older brother Nathaniel and spend time with him whenever you come visit us."
