Making Sure You Girls Don't Burn The House Down Chapter 32

Surprised by Evergreens question Henry was at a loss for words for an answer at that exact moment.

Noticing this, Miriam went ahead and opened her mouth to flatter.

"Undoubtedly he thought you guys have grown up to be very pretty since his last visit and has finally opened his eyes to the truth!"

Miriam said as she nodded her head in Henrys direction since her hands were at the moment full with a parrot snuggled in her arms.

Ophelia started to giggle so much she started to make a snorting noise in a weird but cute way.

On the other hand, Henry, you could see his jaw subtly open abit in disbelief.

'Did she really just say that? Am I having a odd fever dream right now?' Henry thought to himself, and proceeded to look around the room abit to remind himself he was currently awake and ground himself within reality.

"See, so pretty the man is speechless! Ah, I wish I was that pretty. I hope I can grow up to be as big and beautiful as my two older sisters." Miriam said with a face that looked like she was going to mock cry with happiness.

After hearing this last line, Henry had figured out this little girl waa trying to get a reaction from him. Hmmph.

Calming himself down, he started to speak.

"You remind me of one of my younger brothers. Always speaking flattery or mockery, and with a overly glib and vulgar tongue in your mouth. Very interesting. In response to your question Evergreen, I am making sure you girls don't burn the house down."

After he finished speaking, a frown appeared on Miriams face.

Sensing something, Bannon went over to Miriam and asked her what was wrong.

"Whats wrong Miriam? Why are you frowning? Did the bird hurt you?" Bannon asked a small barrage of questions to his little sister.

"No, I'm not fine. How does this lad know I can start a fire? I happen to be very proficient in fire making. Weird, how did he know?" As she ended her third sentence, a cute but cheeky smile appeared on her face, but was quickly replaced with a neutral facial expression afterwards..

Before Henry could even process what the little girl had said, Beatrice appeared at the doorway with Fiona flanking her to the left.

Miriams left, that is.

"Your room is ready Miriam, Bannon, follow me. We will eat dinner soon. You can eat it in your room since you must be tired from traveling."

Miriam carried the bird out of the room and Bannon followed behind her.

"Goodnight Evergreen, Ophelia, and Hemmy." Were the words she said as she bid them all goodnight.

Yes, she made a mistake in Henrys name on purpose. That's what he gets for trying to go against her wishes.

Miriam was really becoming more bossy the older she got.

As Beatrice lead them to the room they would be staying in that night Miriam happened to pass Jeremys bedroom door which happened to be open.

The naughty little boy was crying on his bed with his older sister Adalaide trying to comfort him the best she could.

That whole debacle was over an hour ago. Why is he still crying? What a spoiled child...

Jeremy just happened to look up as Miriam walked past his room, they made eye contact.

Miriam decided to say goodnight to them as well.

Walking over to the doorway, Miriam flashed a smile at the two children and sweetly said, "Goodnight."

Jeremy upon seeing this and that little brat carrying the bird, started crying even harder.

Adelaide felt as of someonewas stepping on her chest today. Why did this little girls arrival cause her to be on the tip of her toes all day long?

After saying 'goodnight' Miriam walked further down the halls of the house until Beatrice and Fiona stopped outside a small oak door that had oranges and lemons carved on it along the outer edges. It was painted a light brown color. The door handle to the room looked brass and looked like it needed a good polishing session.

Beatrice grabbed the brass handle and turned it, opening the door to the room.

Miriam looked inside and saw it the wallpaper inside was a boring beige color with sparse light orange colored floral designs overplayed atop the beige background of the wallpaper.

The room was small, it maybe about 14 by 14 feet. Two beds were placed on opposite sides of the room. There were ivory colored curtains that looked like they were made a long time ago.

The floor was just wooden and it looked like it needed to be revarnished.

Walking into the room, Miriam saw her travel trunk by the foot of one of the beds.

Walking into the room, she looked at the window and made sure it was closed.

Turning on her heel, Miriam said "Alright I can figure the rest out for the both of us, when dinner comes tell them to knock on the door and wait for me to tell them to come in. Beatrice, and Fiona, please close the bedroom door on your way out. I am going go try and figure out a solution to the birds housing tonight. Tell the servanra bringing supper to bring an extra dish of water, in a large saucer or bowl please."

After handing out instructions left and right, Miriam shooed the adults out before closing the light oak door.

Letting out a soft sigh, Miriam looked at the room and after picking up anything that could likely harm the bird and putting it in the only wardrobe in the room.

The wardrobe could make ve the makeshift next for tonight, so Miriam made sure nothing was on top of it before she dust off the top with her sleeve by jumping ontop of the bed next to it.

Barely reaching the top, she sat the bird ontop of the wardrobe inside of the small blanket.

"What a dreary sight for a nest...." She murmured to herself in thought.

Wait...

Miriam just now realized she didn't have a name for the Pale Headed Rosella parrot that they had found today.

What would be a good name classy name for a parrot. Temporarily of course, since they didn't know if they could find the owner.

Nugget? Leopard? Twinkle?

Twinkle... sounded just about right to Miriam and so she decided that was its name for now.

"Bannon, I have decided what to name the parrot. Want to guess what its name will be?"

Skipping over to Bannon and placing both her hands behind her back, she asked him a question that she was curious to hear his answer too.

Bannon had set Miriams bag down by her bed and looked at her, the expression on his face almost looked constipated as he tried to

think of a fitting name for the colorful bird.

Letting out a light chuckle, Miriam waited for him to guess a few names.

After careful thought Bannon finally spoke some name guesses out loud.

"Sunflower, Birdy, Hawk, or Gabriel?" Bannon said.

Shaking her head slowly, a sly little smile lit up Miriam's small round face.

Furrowing his light auburn colored brows, Bannon conceeded.

"I give up, what is the bird's name going to be?" He asked.

Doing a little twirl for extra dramatic effect, Miriam then said "Twinkle! His name is Twinke! He is a boy also. So no egg laying for him. Only girl birds do that.I need to try and make a make-shift flight harness for him tonight."

Going to her trunk, she selected a yard of fabric and some thread, and sewing utensils out of her travel trunk located at the foot of her bed.

Taking a piece of paper out and a old pencil, she sat on the floor and started to sketch out a quick pattern onto the paper. Once she was semi-satisfied she took a pair of scissors from her sewing kit and carefully cut out the pattern.

Placing the piece of paper on top of a piece of the fabric, Miriam cut out several layers to of fabric in the shape of the pattern, of course sheet plenty of excess around the edges to account for possible alterations in the future.

Once finished with cutting the harness pattern out, she then went back into the trunk and took out and unrolled about 3 yards of fabric and unfurled it.

Cutting out long straps of fabric, she then layered them on top of each other and set them aside.

At this time a knock at the door was heard, upon hearing this, Miriam walked to the door and asked who it was.

"Who is it?" She inquired through the wooden door.

"This is Fiona, I have both your dinners, please allow me entrance." Fiona answered, located just on the other side of the door.

Walking calmly over to her bed, Miriam jumped up onto it and placed her hands on the bird Twinkle who was currently busy preening his feathers.

Cautiously she scritched his head for him.

And held onto his wings gently but firmly so if he starled upon opening the door, the bird would not go airborne and potentially flee the confines of the safe house.

"Go open the door and get the food, as soon as the food is inside close the door quickly, alright Bannon?" Miriam intruscted Bannon on how to go about opening the door.

Shuffling over to the door Bannon opened the door to see his mother with a less than happy expression on her face.

Bannon was curious as to why his mother had that look on her face but upon thinking of his smart and bossy little sisters instructions he told her to set the tray of food on the floor just inside the door and to make haste in closing the door due to the bird.

"Thanks mum, hurry and close the door, if Twinkle gets out it will be bad for him." The little boy said as he shoo'd his mother out after obtaining the food.

Closing the door almost in her face, Bannon picked up one of the food trays and went to set it on the only table in the room.
