Why Is She So Smart? Chapter 38

Nathanial goes and gets paper, quill, and ink and brings them over to the kitchen table.

"You can go first, I will turn around and cover my eyes, when you done tell me and hide your papers contents. Henry can make sure I don't peek." Miriam announced as she covered her eyes with her hands and went into a desolate looking corner of the kitchen and faced the wall.

The water was done boiling by the time Nathanial was done.

"I am finished. Go ahead and give it your best shot." Nathanial said while grinning, practically seeing himself graduating from a prestigious medical college!

Walking over to the table, she was just tall enough to be able to see what she was going to draw and write on the paper.

She first drew a line in the middle and started tp draw the whole spine, finished at the skull, filled in the shoulders, torso, arms, hands, and then went on to the lower extremities.

"Oh I almost forgot, is the person in question male or female? I guess we shall assume male in this case." Miriam talked the problem out with herself outloud before reaching a conclusion.

Finishing the leg, and feet, she went and drew lines off to the side and started to label the bones names.

Once she waa finally finished sje gave the two boys the brightest smile she could muster and blew on the ink before dropping the quill on the table and backing away.

When Nathanial came over too take a gander, he almost fainted on the spot!

What sorcery was this! He had only put down 30 bones at most, because he thought she would only label 10 at most.

This was well over a hundred bones!

"Where did you see this at?" Nathanial asked desperately.

"I read it once when I sneaked into a library. I can remember anything I see once. The offer still stands if you want help studying~. Of course only when I'm not playing Henrys violin....." Miriam said as she nonchalantly waltzed up to Henry with a giddy smile upon her pearl like countenance.

"Oh and one more thing, if you become a doctor in the future, please wash your tools and hands off with SOAP and clean, preferably boiled, water. Also alcohol of the highest concentration to help clean wounds. You'll find death rates for those who practice this gargantuanally lower." Miriam said stoll getting ever closer to Henry.

"Henry, you really need to shave. You have scraggly hair on your face." Miriam said as she leaned in closer to him and peered up at his chin covered in a small layer of scraggly hair.

"Do you know how to shave? Do you want help?" Being rather genuine, Miriam offered to help.

Ears turning red, Henry said a quick no.

"No thanks."

"Okay. But a no facial hair looks much better than peach fuzz or uneven patchiness." Miriam stated before backing up abit, and delivering a elegant little twirl with her dress.

"Okay I want to practice on your violin after breakfast. Give me all your sheet music that you may have with you. Where's your pans and or skillets located Nathanial? I want to make some eggs for breakfast....wait. I'm not tall enough..."

Turning her big blue limpid eyes towards her newly acquainted older half brother, Miriam said in the saddest, most pity inducing tone 0f voice that she could muster without going over the top.

"Natty, can you fry my eggs for me? I like them sunny side up."

"What?" Nathanial asked, obviously completely flabbergasted by what his newfound younger sister was asking of him.

"Ugh. Nevermind, you need to sharpen your witt abit more before you can become a doctor, I hope you study twice as hard as other students...." Incoherent mumbles could be heard coming from Miriam.

"Anyway, Henry pour the water into the jar for me! Please~. The pot is too heavy for me... You're so strong I'm sure you can do it better than me!" Miriam decided Nathanial wasnt worth the effort at this time so she switched her target.

Miriam picked up the water jar off the table nearby and brought it over to where the water had been boiling.

Taking off the lid, she looked up at Henry with her watery doe-like blue eyes filled with innocence and not a hint of malice could be seen within their depths.

Henry felt like a little bumblebee had flown into his ear and down his throat to his heart. Where its fast little wings battered his heart so that its beat became like that of the little bumblebees. Fast.

Blinking a few times and then clearing his throat to stall for more time, Henry then diligently began to pour the water into the little girls jar.

"Wow! I wish I could grow up as big and strong as you someday! Other than the face hair though." Miriam cooed and then added the last line on to not make it seem to over the top.

Suddenly, a brilliant idea flashed into Miriam's head.

Ehehehe...

"If your so strong, do you think you could even lift a person?" Miriam asked and then put the lid on the jar when it was full.

Leaning in a little closer to him, Miriam blinked her long lashed eyes at him a few times.

Henry, for some odd reason suddenly getting self conscious of how close the child was leaning in, backed him up.

Henry then replied, albiet with a smidge of hesitancy in his voice, "I suppose I could if they weren't larger than myself."

Setting her water jar underneath the nearby table, she walked over slowly and then raised her arms into the air in front of Henry.

"Up! Might as well test your strength good Sir!" Miriam announced as she posed oddly with her hands in the air, almost as if, she just don't care.

After waiting for half a minute in this odd pose, Miriam put down her arms and let out a long sigh.

"How hard is it to make breakfast around here. Forget it. I'll just go outside and eat grass or something." Clearly disheartened, she trudged to the back entrance to the house that she knew the location of.

As she made her way to the backdoor she passed by the drawing room and happened to see Jeremy with what looked like a brightly painted toy soldier in his hand.

Wouldn't you know it, he then proceeded go put half of one of its arms in his mouth.

'Should I stop him? Its probably lead paint...It wouldn't hurt to at least try. Right? He's a kid afterall...' After sorting her inner thoughts out, Miriam hastily made her way over to Jeremy.

"Um, Jeremy. Its not good to put things in your mouth that aren't food or water." Miriam said, to the kid while speaking in a somewhat softer tone.

Unfortunately, he didn't think she was being nice.

"What do you want? Your a dirty child!" Jeremy said, raising his voice the more he spoke.

Nevermind.

Miriam turned on her heel, and just ignored the rest of the insults Jeremy was hurling at her.

Making her way outside finally, she breathed in a breath of fresh air.

It was quite a walk to the nearest neighbor, so Miriam didn't really pay attention to anything other than finding something to eat.

While walking through the trees nearby the house, she spotted a small bear trap set up. and untriggered.

"Really? A house full of kids is so close by and some villian put a bear trap out here. Absolutely unacceptable."

Walking up to the trap Miriam picked up a long stick on the ground nearby, and pressed it into the traps center, triggering the pressure plate in the trap.

Schnapp! The trap closed with a ear grating, and irritating metal sound.
