Arabian Turkey??? Chapter 39

After she had disarmed the bear trap in front of her, Miriam really wanted to pick up a large stone or stick nearby and try to bash it into smithereens.

Sighing, she decided it wasn't worth the effort, the bear trap was made out of metal afterall.

What compelled people to put out a bear trap so near a residential area? Miriam did not know the answer sadly.

Looking up at her surroundings, Miriam found a large and thick canopy of trees blocking out a significant amount of the sunlight, high above her head.

Oops. She didn't get lost did she?...

Turning around in place, Miriam took into stock her surroundings. It was what looked like a sparse patch of forest nearby the house.

Checking which way she came by looking at the bear trap, Miriam decided to go a little with further.

Wait, what was she doing running around outside so early in the morning again?

Oh, looking for food. Right. Hah, this was surely a pathetic thing.

Glacing around at the foliage nearby, she looked at the plant life and didn't see anything edible other than a handful of dandelions.

After wandering around for a while, she saw a small clearing thatay just ahead of her.

Something shiny was sparkling in the clearing.

After drifting closer, she saw it was either a very tiny lake, or a huge pond.

When she was about 30 feet from the waterline she heard some peoples voices from nearby.

Obviously, a little gorl like herself normally shouldn't wander around the forest like a vagrant, so what she did next was obvious.

Miriam hid behind a giant fallen tree trunk, before crouching onto the forest floor. Quickly, she crawled her way inside the hallowed out center.

Moments later she heard two voices coming towards her current position from afar.

And....why were these voices sounding more and more like Turkish or Arabic?

Miriam only knew about 200 words of either of those languages.

All she knew was that one of the voices sounded angry.

Oh, one of the voices was high pitched, like a child's.

The voices turned and presumably the people making them, and stopped going in her direction and switched to a separate one.

The only few words she could make out were,

'father', 'angry', 'no', and what sounded like a few curse words.

Quite a while had passed and Miriam was just about to peak her head out to see if the cost was clear to scamper back to the mistress house.

However, she heard something that gave her a a very bad feeling in the pit of her stomach when she heard a yelp and a large splash!

The older persons voice, she could only hear faintly a few words they were saying.

But she understood none of them. What she did understand though was how calm the mand voice sounded.

They were not panicking at what she supposed was the child that accompanied them, falling into the water.

This definitely didn't sit right with Miriam.

She heard a few cries of what she knew to be the word 'help', and they grew fainter.

She heard fast footsteps running off into the distance.

Finally when she stopped hearing anything outside the log, she quickly crawled out to see a few bubbles floating to the surface of the body of water nearby.

Ugh! She didn't know this person but she just had to be a busy body and try and save them now.

Taking out a small knife that she had hidden god knows where on her body, she was about to tear her clothing to make it easier to swim when she remembered she could just take it off.

Dropping the knife, she quickly pulled the dress up and over and her head before throwing it nearby, and kicked off her boots.

Not bothering to remove her stockings, she ran towards the waters edge and plunged herself into the water. Keeping an eye where she saw the bubbles surface, and swimming towards that area as fast as was safely and physically possible.

Once she felt that she was close enough to her targeted area, she put her arms out and felt around while submerged underneath the surface of the water.

Eww, sticks, algea, cloth, wait....

Cloth?

Feeling more carefully she felt a fleshy substance near the cloth and propelled herself underneath what was obviously a childs body.

Once she had a firm grip, Miriam jetted herself to the waters surface above, probably only a few feet above.

Once she and the 'dead weight' emerged from the bottom, Miriam made her way to the close by shore and pulled what looked to be a boy only a few years older than her onto land.

Flipping him over, she went ahead and tilted his head back to make it easier to clear his airways.

Positioning her hand to hover just above his nose and mouth, Miriam could feel no breath entering or exiting either orifice.

"Ugh! You owe me my first kiss, you better not die. I don't want my first kiss to be with a dead person..." Miriam grumbled before putting her lips to the child's, and pinching his nose with her right hand and giving him 5 rescue breaths of oxygen.

Still seeing no response Miriam moved her hands to the childs sternum and began to do chest compressions.

After about 30 seconds, the child finally started to cough and sputter like a backfiring engine.

And....upon opening his eyes puking all over Miriams lap.

Blinking at him twice, Miriam shook her head and decided not to hold this against him.

Afterall, she would probably puke up water too. Its not like ahe didnt almost drowned a few years ago herself.

Push him! Thats right she needed to turn him on his side still.

Leaning foward in full puke covered glory, Miriam managed to roll the kiddo onto his side and force his head back into the right position.

Finally completing all the drowning victim rescue steps she finall let out a big sigh of relief.

She was totally and unequivocally unaware at the childs eyes opening and just gawking at a small little pale fairy looking child sitting infront of him, drenched, and half naked.

When she heard the boy start to mumble some words, she knew he would probably be okay.

Unfortunately, when she was getting up to leave she saw the child start to shiver.

Ah, it was still fairly early in the morning, naturally he'd be cold in full soaking wet attire.

Looking over at her dress, she tried to decide if the kid could squeeze into it.

Hmm, it could probably work.

Also, the kid had some pretty nice clothes, or, at least what were once nice clothes before being tossed into a violent foray with the semi-dirty stagnant body of water.

Trudging over to her clothes deposited nearby, as well as her knife, Miriam took the knife and said goodbye to her pretty dress.

"Ah, goodbye my pretty dress. Your selfless and noble contribution to humanity shall be duly noted on this day hence forth."

Rip! Slicing slits into the dress it was now obviously big enough to fit over the little fella she drug out from the waters.

By the time she made her way back over the person who she was tending too, they had already sat up straight now, while looking around at his surroundings vigilantly.

Trudging over to the boy, Miriam had breaths that were abit labored.

Dang! This body was very weak. Only a mere quick swim had almost completely exhausted all the energy she had left.

Sensing someone nearby, the boy looked over at the source of the sound.

However, as unassuming as Miriam looked the boy itmedaitely noticed a small ray of sunshine pierce through the forest canopy and cause a glint of light to hit the knife Miriam had in her hands still.

Tensing up his body, and still slightly confused from that traumatic fall into the water, he clumsily tried to get to his feet.

His first few attempts failed, but he finally managed to succeed just as she arrived to stand next to him.

Not thinking about how she would be perceived by the child whilst still holding the knife in her hand, Miriam moved evem closer to him.

"Are you okay?" Miriam asked, hoping they understood English.

The boy just squinted at her fiercely, as if she had just murdered his whole family, or stolen the last pudding in the fridge.

"Hey, don't look at me like that. I just saved you from drowning. Learn to be grateful, okay?" Miriam snapped abit as she gestured to the water behind him, and then to her soaked under clothes and stockings that now clung to her body.
