Why Do I Have To Meddle? Chapter 40

What to do? Am I really gonna be bossed around by this ungrateful brat?

Fine! If he wants to catch a illness or get sick from being cold and wet, she wouldn't help him.

Turning around, she trudged back to her dry boots nearby and picked them up from the dirty forest floor.

Sheathing her knife, she proceeded to put her dress on over her head.

Her dress that she had throughly ruined....

Sigh.

Turning around she saw the boy shiver abit.

'I must harden my heart! If someone doesn't want my help, they shalln't get it.'

With her boots in hand, Miriam took off her stained, soppy wet, and ruined stockings before putting her boots back on.

As she left the water side, she could faintly hear soft footsteps coming towards her direction from behind her.

Turning around, how surprised was Miriam too find she had grown a new little tail!

That boy, who was easily half a head taller than her, was slowly following her clearly looking abit lost and scared. Cute...ahem.

Miriam decided to ignore him for the time being and continue looking for breakfast.

As she looked around, she found some ripe and juicy looking wild gooseberries.

"These are safe for parrots to eat as well as humans, I want to bring back as many as possible." Miriam announced delightedly and started to pick the gooseberries with wild abandon.

Deciding to try and carry the berries, Miriam turned to look at the boy who was now following her more closely than before.

Looking at the boy who was weighed down by heavy, wet clothing, and still had yet to speak to her, Miriam thought of something.

Miriam decided to see if she could lessen his burden again...

Approaching the boy once again, she went up to him and lifted his robe like garment quickly enough so that the boy didn't have a chance to leap back.

As she had thought, he something on underneath the robe, so Miriam swiftly unsheathed her knife and hastily cut the bottom half of his robe off.

The boy, obviously confused and scared back up and started shouting at her in loud-like whispers.

Having found some nice cloth, she folded it just so and tied a small knot at the top which left a small opening.

Going back over to the gooseberries, the little girl then proceeded to stuff as many berries as she possibly could inside of the makeshift sack.

It was much heavier than Miriam thought it would be.

Why did she not take into account the fact that she had a weakling body still? After this hardship Miriam was determined to start working her way up to a high intensity workout regime.

Having fully stuffed the sack, she proceeded to procure a handful for herself and sat down on the dirty forest floor. Starting to eat some, she did well to enjoy her much deserved and hard earned freshly picked, and richly ripe gooseberries.

As she finished her handful she decided to take one more too eat when a bedraggled figure appear next to her and snatched one from off the nearby bush.

Glacing at the boy who still looked very grumpily at her, Miriam decided to flash him a heart-felt smile with her small and pearly white kid teeth.

To her surprise, the boy ate a few more than picked a couple and put them in what looked like some pockets that she hadn't cut off from his cropped robe-like garment.

Miriam was starting to feel tired, so she picked up her ghetto make-shift sack of gooseberries, and wearily started her way back to that house full of weirdos.

When she was almost their, she spotted some dandelions and stuffed some fresh green leaves into her sack.

By the time she arrived back at the house, it had already been two hours since she left.

Her little legs could only travel so fast and so far, afterall. The two story large brick-house now in sight, she left out a small sigh of relief and internally told herself that she was almost there.

Upon entering the house, the boy just stood outside the house, as if unsure if he was welcome to come inside.

Clearly, he didnt want to go back home, he couldnt go back home, or he was simply too young to remember which way lead him back to his home.

Looking at the boy, Miriam held the door open as best as her tiny figure could, and obviously motioned for him to come inside.

Once inside, she aaited for the 'tail' to come inside and after a few minutes of waiting he finally worked up the courage to go into this stranger fairies large house.

But of course, it wasnt actually her house, but he didn't know that.

Upon making her way inside through the kitchen backdoor, Miriam ran into Fiona and Bannon who were looking aeound for something with a rather nervous and worried expression upon their faces.

Itmedaitely, Miriam thought they had lost the bird. So she asked, "Did you guys accidentally let Twinkle get outside of the bedroom?"

Upon hearing her voice, the mother and son duo turned in unison to look at Miriam and Bannon looked very confused while the expression on Fionas face went pale as a ghost as soon as she saw Miriams appearance.

Frantically running over to the little girl, she shouted at her.

"What happened to you?! When Bannon woke up he said you were gone and he couldnt find you anywhere in the house... why are your clothes ripped?!"

Coming over to Miriam rather hurriedly, Fiona looked at the girls damp clothing and ruined dress, along with her not having a hat on her head and no stockings on.

Fiona always thought Miriam was a child genius, as she could get dressed all by herself rather tastefully since the age of three and a half.

But looking at her now, she looked like she had been caught in a violent rainstorm or something of the sort.

And the fact that she could she a sheathed knife underneath her dress which made her feel rather uncomfortable in her heart.

Miriam, noticing Fionas confused look, turned and pointed to the little boy who had darted into a corner upon hearing Miriam being yelled at shortly after entrance into the residence.

"I saved this boy from drowning while out on a walk in the nearby woods foraging for breakfast. None of the ingredients in the kitchen were up to my standards, so I rationally decided to just go find some."

Miriam stated rather nonchalantly as she set down the sack of gooseberries on a table inside the kitchens.

"Also, I think someone might have tried to murder him alone in the woods by pushing him into a deep body of water, or at the very least, he fell into it and the other person did nothing to help him." This time, Miriams tone was abit more serious as she explained how she met the boy.

Fiona's attention was then turned towards the boy who was still in drenched clothes of high quality material, but were cut through rather haphazardly at the bottom half making the outfit look rather odd.
