Henry Reyes Is Un-Ambitious Chapter 50

Waiting for Henry to speak further, Miriam felt someone tap on a shoulder lightly.

Looking to the source of the tapping, she saw Otto looking at her somewhat confused, but holding his hand out to her as if he wanted her to hold his hand again.

This kid! He just wanted a pretty girl to hold his hand, she was sure of it!

Miriam decided to let Otto do whatever he wants, he was a young child who had been traumatized recently afterall. The least she could do was comfort him a little.

Otto kept looking at Miriam from time to time, trying not to be caught by her.

Deciding to pretend the child holding her hand wasn't there, Miriam looked up at Henry to hopefully hear a good story.

"I am Nathanials Maternal cousin, her sister is my mother. I am the second oldest son in my family. My family is made up of one older brother, two younger sisters, and two younger brothers." As Henry spoke, Miriam began to think this guy might truly be anti-social and not just the brooding in the corner type.

Fluttering her lashes at him, Miriam's gaze sent the message 'I'm listening, continue.'.

Henry then kept speaking...

"I play the violin and my favorite vegetable is tomato..." And before he could say another word, Miriam held out her free hand up to Henrys face, before correcting him.

"A tomato is a fruit. Please continue though."

Not knowing if this little girl was pranking him, or just didn't know that a tomato was a vegetable, Henry didn't speak for a good 30 seconds after Miriams rude interruption.

"A tomato isn't poisonous, so if your trying to disaude me from eating it, it will not work." Henry stated, finally coming to the conclusion that this little girl was trying to beat around the bush and prevent him from eating a tomato by making him question it.

Of course, Miriam wasn't trying to play mind games with him at all. She merely knew that a tomato was a fruit. And for those nutrionists that said otherwise, they could eat her medical degree! Not that she had one during this period...

"Of course I know it isn't poisonous, potatoes aren't poisonous either unless you let bad stuff grown on it, then it gets old and rots. But some people still think potatoes are 'poisonous'. I see nothing wrong with tomatoes, but they are indeed a fruit. We can agree to disagree if you like?" Miriam said, ending the sentence with a little bit of sass thrown into her voice.

Henry looked at Miriam in disbelief, followed by a bit of skepticism.

"Actually, if you can get some good food grade tomatos, I will show you a few really yummy dishes you can make with it. Speaking of food, why is the food here so terrible? Oh wait, you can tell me after you finish telling me about yourself. Continue." Miriam said, continuing to stare at Henry with her beady blue eyes.

Otto didn't know why the little fairy looking girl was looking at the stupid teenager in front of them, but je curiosity got the best of him, and he too turned to look at Henry. This time though, it was beady eyes a shade of brown so dark it almost looked black.

Swallowing some saliva that had pooled in his mouth, Henry continued on about himself.

"Anyway, I plan on going to school in America this upcoming year for business and also to further my violin playing skills if possible. I'd eventually like to set up a small railroad and make some income from it like all those big wigs."

...

So he wasn't that farsighted, Miriam had concluded. Perhaps she should suggest a better business venture for him? Afterall, the train for getting rich quick with railroads had pretty much already come and gone...

Internally, Miriam was struggling on wether or not she should suggest a better plan for his future or not. They weren't really friends, so was it really worth the effort?

Well, Miriam considered herself a rathet kindhearted person so she supposed she could offer some guidance.

"You know, all the big railroad companies have already gotten a foothold here. Most startups are suppressed by those companies. Plus, let's say evem if you manage to successfully start up one, there's no telling when you might make a blunder that could bankrupt your whole venture. And that's if we don't plan on bringing the huge amount of capital needed to start such an enterprising business venture. I could easily think of some other things that would be much more beneficial to invest in."

Saying all this to Henry, Miriam thought she was being a pretty good person right about now, by guiding the youth onto a more reasonable path.

However, Henry did not think that at all. This was a small chold who probably recently stopped drinking milk, what could they possibly know about investing in things? It was one thing to be able to copy the contents of a medical book. But it was an entirely different matter when it came to business. You didn't just copy things. Lots of thinking and problem solving were involved in the business world. So much so that it was essentially dog eat dog world. A mere four year old child could not even possibly begin to comprehend all the ins and outs of it.

Seeing Henry look begin to look at her with contempt and disbelief, Miriam decided he could go royally screw himself.

'Don't come crying to me when you go bankrupt little boy!'

Hmmph...

"I see, very interesting Henry. Certianly I, Miriam Stuart, wish you all the best in your future business endeavors.~" Miriam said sweetly while putting her free hand to her chest as of her words were just so heart-felt.

...

For some reason, Henry could almost swear this little girl was mocking him.

This talk had only reaffirmed Miriams thoughts about Henry Reyes.

He was an un-ambitous man, but stubborn as an ox.

When Miriam was inattentive of the child holding her hand, he shuffled closer and whispered something into her ear.

Having absolutely no idea what he whispered to her, Miriam turned to gaze at him and just tilted her head at him while staring at him with her big blue eyes.

Oh, and she didn't forget to add a small smile to make sure she didn't unerve the poor kid.
