Kale the Slaver just shook his head and walked from the cage as she walked towards the back once again started combing her hair with the rat carcass as though it were a comb. The corner she stared at, containing the imaginary mirror only she seemed to be able to see. Every day for the past three weeks he tried to put her up for auction, her behavior stayed at this odd state. Making it impossible for anyone wanting to even use her as a breeder. Kale the Slaver was now at a loss on what to do with her. He was down to two obvious options, possibly three. First option is to try to retrain her, second option, hobble her enough to still be used as a child bearer, option three, if that is all he had left, add her to the pit fights. The pit fights consisted of all the slaves that just could not be used for any purpose. Kale knew he had to decide; he just was not sure at this point to which way he wanted to go with her. While Kale the Slaver was trying to figure out what to do with Krista, back in the village Nuvaro and Cedren had been busy with the troops training. Nuvaro had basically asked Cedren to take on doing the archery training and weapon cleaning. With her being in her third month of pregnancy, that was the most he wanted her to do to avoid accidental body damage from the other training. Nuvaro was being overprotective to almost a ridiculous end, but it was his first child after all.
Nuvaro: "I know that you are a little mad about what I have you doing my love, but I just don't want to take the chance that anything happens to you."
Cedren: "I already figured that out my love. Being very protective due to it being our first child. I completely understand. Though, it tends to be a little bit overbearing."
Nuvaro: "I apologize my love. I can't seem to help myself."
We laughed over how silly the concept was and went back to training. The days were getting long, and I was getting tired a lot quicker. But there was really nothing that could be done about it. Their days were filled with the new routine as Cedren started getting a little bigger in the belly. Nuvaro was starting to be a little concerned that she seemed bigger than one of his cousins at the same length in. He was still contemplating having Cedren see the midwife or not. Back in Slaver City, Kale the Slaver had finally decided what to do with Krista, realizing that he could not place her as a breeder, she had kept fighting to many of the customers that were just looking. Knowing she clearly was too disturbed to be retrained, he had no choice but to throw her into the pit fights. He could at least make money from the people betting on the fights.
Maybe, just maybe, her delusions of trying to be Nuvaro' s next mate would fade in time. And so, he packed her up in the small transport cage and headed off towards the area where the pit fights took place. There were not many female pit fighters, so he thought he may have a chance at making some money on the novelty of it at the very least, after all Krista would be the fifth female placed in the arena as long as the arena master agreed. His only hope is that she would fight as hard as she did when the people trying to buy her. Kale the Slaver finally reached the arena, stopping just outside the main gate. He got off the cart and walked over to the arena master, Oshwa the Brave, to discuss placement into the pit arena. He only hoped they would come to a good arrangement. He was a distinguished looking man despite the job he chose to have. From the look of his ears and tail, it was clear that he belonged to one of the saber clans. His robust size gave that away clearly. Who better to be the head arena master? Pushing those observations to the side, he proceeded to ask Oshwa about the possible agreement.
Oshwa the Brave: "So Kale, what brings you to my end of the city? It has been a while since I have seen you. Your slave business not going so well?"
Kale the Slaver: (He waved as he walked up with a smile on his face.) "Oh, my business is going well. As you know all of us slavers end up with a difficult product from time to time. I just happen to have one for you if you are up to placing her in the pits with the other females."
Oshwa the Brave: "Oh yes, that does tend to happen from time to time. So, you have an unruly female then?"
Kale the Slaver: "I wouldn't call her unruly, she seems very disturbed in her own way. To be honest, she is a little mad. This one has not been right in the head since my old boss snatched her up. Probably before that even. So, I figured, making money on the pit fights was last resort."
Oshwa the Brave: "Well when you put it like that, what do either of us have to lose? Bring the cart back around to the new arrivals area and we will get her placement set. We will make sure hers is bare hand. Don't need someone in her mindset to have a weapon, at least past her own hands anyway."
Kale the Slaver: (Getting back on his cart, he cracked the reigns and started moving.) "You got it. I hope we can both do well from her fights. Is it possible to set her up for a fight this evening? Or do you want to see how she is first?"
Oshwa the Brave: "I always put them in the hold for the first few days just to monitor their behavior patterns. It helps to determine fight types. But with what you have described her doing, it may be longer. We will discuss it further."
Kale the Slaver: "Just fair warning to you and your people here, she conspired with my old boss to have the wife of a major village chief kidnapped. So, no telling what goes on in her head. So be wary of her always. Right now, she is still under the delusion that he is going to come and save her for whatever reason."
Oshwa the Brave: "Well now that is a bit on the mad side as you have said, I will definitely keep that in mind and forward that to all my people."
Oshwa the Brave waved him off and hollered toward the back to get his servants attention that helped with the new arrivals. Poking his head around the corner, he acknowledged with a nod and a hand gesture and guided Kale the Slaver to the area. Oshwa the Brave put the "momentarily away" sign up and headed back to the arrival area. Backing the cage to holding cell, Kale the Slaver got off his cart and went to the back of the cage. Opening it up, he turned his head with a nod as Oshwa the Brave opened the door. As she got out of the cart, Oshwa noticed the rat carcass she kept in her hand and looked at Kale with puzzlement.
All Kale could do was shrug his shoulders as if to say, "I told you so", and went back to putting Krista in the cell. Once she was chained in the holding cell, Kale the Slaver came out and Oshwa the Brave shut the door. He just looked at Kale once more before asking him to head to his office with him that way they could get a schedule of possible fights going. Once things were settled, an agreement had been made. Krista would have to make it through her first fight, if she were successful, then at least five more would be set in the future, considering healing time. And so, Kale and Oshwa set up her first fight to take place within a month. They wanted to monitor her behavior first just to see how she took to being moved first.
