Chapter 10
For the most part, the daily activities at the auction house had returned to somewhat of a normal routine. New and exciting connection were being set up for future gatherings and purchases. As people from all over were wanting to either see or purchase the use of his fighters. Already having requests for breeding's was a good thing for Kale. He knew he would not hurt for business for quite a while. Krista and his main male fighter were healing up rather well as the upcoming months seemingly passed in a blur. Even more and more people had come wanting a breeding from his new prized head male fighter.
As for Cedren and Nuvaro, back in their village she was now counting the days till she were to give birth. Each day that passed was like a constant vigil it seemed. Every day around the same time the midwife would show up followed by Nuvaro. Though, Cedren did have worries of her own and even wrote to her mother to be there with her when she was going to deliver. She knew well enough to not hold her hopes to high since her mother helps run her home village. It was only if she was able to spare the time, it made Cedren a little sad to know, but that is just how it is when you are the head of a village. It seemed as though Nuvaro was more excited than even Cedren. She was looking at the fact that this was her first birthing and was really scared about it to a small degree. Though she did not know whether or not she was hiding it well. As for her friend Ren, he was excited for the both of them. After all, he would kind of be like an uncle to them. That thought made him happy.
Cedren was careful to not move so much these last few days. Every time she did, it was like she was getting kicked by a whole team. Every single time she thought about it, it brought a smile to her face as she laughed at herself and how large she had become. It would definitely take a while to get back into proper shape after this pregnancy. Like clockwork, the midwife showed up to check on her followed once again by Nuvaro. Thankfully, it was not uncommon for most children to be born in the spring months anyway. Besides, half the other females in the village had already had or were about to have their own children as well.
Midwife: "So how are we feeling today, Cedren?"
Cedren: (Still walking around in her beast form due to comfortability issues…) "Well as you can see, I am still walking around in beast form for comfort sake. Though I have been getting slight pains starting, like muscle cramps."
Midwife: "Well then, that is certainly something. Those sound like they are the beginning stages of labor pains. I will need to check you if you do not mind."
Cedren: "Of course not, do you want me in to stay in beast form or change back?"
Midwife: "It will be easier if you change to your other form. I have never had practice looking at someone who remained in beast form. Sorry for the inconvenience."
Cedren: "It is more than fine; I wanted a bath at some point today anyway."
Nuvaro: "Okay, I will have one of the maids get things prepped for you while the midwife's here."
Nuvaro poked his head out the door and proceeded to holler at one of the maids to please prep the bath for Cedren. One of the maids responded with a bright and cheerful "Right away sir" and was off and running. Nuvaro closed the door back up and returned to Cedren's side.
Nuvaro: "There we are my love; it is being prepped as we speak now."
Cedren: "Thank you my love but let us have the midwife finish."
Midwife: (Laughing to herself as she watched the mild banter…) "Well thank you for that. Shall we get started now then?"
Cedren: (Finishing her transformation from beast form….) "Yes, yes. I am sorry about that. I was not trying to be disruptive to your schedule."
Midwife: "That is fine, I already knew to expect a bit of disruption. It is par for the course, especially when it is the first pregnancy. Now let us get you into position so we can check you out. It will not be a pleasant feeling, but it is necessary."
Cedren: "Yes, I understand."
With Nuvaro' s help, the midwife was able to get Cedren into place so she could check on her. The midwife used the water basin and bowl and washed her hands in preparation making sure she was as clean as she could be. Reaching down, she placed her hands between Cedren's thighs as she looked at her to calm down some.
Midwife: "Please be calm I have to do this to make sure you are widening for your birthing. It is a normal thing that happens to all females before giving birth."
Cedren: "I know, I cannot help it, it is nerve wracking to me. I only wish my mother could have been here. I might have been a bit calmer."
Midwife: (Smiling brightly at Cedren, she tried to reassure her…) "I understand that, but please, let me finish checking. If you have to, hold Nuvaro' s hand or something to calm down."
Cedren: "That is a good idea. I will do that, it may help."
Cedren reached out and grabbed Nuvaro by the hand, partially pulling him down to her level. As she held his hand, he reached around her placing her head against his side. He figured hearing the sound of his heart would have a calming effect. And for the most part, it seemed to work. She began to calm down some and quit fidgeting so much. Now it would be easier for the midwife to do what she needed to get done. Smiling with a slight nod, she returned to her examination. Reaching down once more she placed her hands between her thighs telling her to remain calm. She proceeded to check to see if she was widening, sure enough, Cedren had finally started to widen, the pains she was feeling was definitely that of labor pains. With a nod, she looked at them both.
Midwife: "Well I would say you are in the beginning stages of labor. I can already place two fingers in the opening. When I get to all five, you will most likely start to deliver."
Cedren: "What! Really??!! Here I was hoping my mother would have been able to show up, but I guess it cannot be helped at this point."
Nuvaro: "Do not worry my love, I know that you wanted your mother here, but there is nothing we can do about it. I am here with you now and if you would like, I can ask mother to come in and try and speak with you. Would you like that?"
Cedren: "Yes my love, that would be most helpful. I just need to speak with someone who has already given birth. Since mom cannot be here, mother in law will be just as good. She is like a second mom to me anyways."
Nuvaro: "Very well, my love. I will get my mother; she will be so excited anyways. Give me a moment. Oh, and my love, I will need my hand back."
Cedren: "I apologize my love. I just could not help it."
She let go of his hand and Nuvaro walked over to the door and hollered out it, asking one of the maids to retrieve his mother. All that was heard was "Right away sir." And they were off. Roughly five minutes later, his mother finally showed up at the door with a look of worry wondering what was wrong. She was almost in a panicked state till she realized the midwife was standing beside him and then she looked past them and seen Cedren laying on the floor. She pushed past her son and the midwife and walked straight up to Cedren. With a look of relief on her face she bent down to sit beside her as Nuvaro took his place back by her side. Leaning her head against himself once more. His mother looked momentarily puzzled before asking him anything.
