Chapter 22: King Of Wands

King Harald of Belandria watched the young woman as she floated out of the room.

"Were we ever that young?"

"There is nothing wrong with wanting to change the world," Sarandia said. She winked at him and Harald felt the rush of desire he always did in her presence. It didn't matter that she was several years his senior, or that they were a political match, after five years, he was still crazy in love with his queen.

"Change is dangerous." He picked up another sweet from the tray he had forgotten to put out for their guest. Sarandia would make him pay for it later. She was a stickler for hospitality. Harald imagined Marriette eating the sweets as obliviously as she drank the tea. He thought of something Sarandia told him once and choked on the sweet.

"Serves you right," the queen said, "you should have put the tray out for Marrisa."
