Lady Joan walked into the cathedral with Catrin beside her.
"Should we be here?" Catrin whispered. "You know the priests don't like people like us."
"I refuse to apologize for whom I love." Joan smiled at Catrin. "Priests or no priests."
Lady Joan was welcome to visit the cathedral in a way Joan Carter was not. She planned to take every advantage of her new status. Suze kept busy training people day and night. Joan worried she was overdoing it, but Suze grinned and declared she'd never had so much fun.
The light from the windows painted abstract patterns on the floor. An acolyte appeared at their side as they looked up at the stained glass.
"Welcome." He bowed, his hands hidden in long sleeves. "Perhaps I could tell you a little about the cathedral?"
Joan smiled brightly at him.
"That would be lovely. I am Lady Joan, and this is my friend Catrin."
"Lady Joan." The acolyte's eye went wide. "Are you the one who's brother became an angel?"
