Chapter 39: More Trouble, Part 1

Trey pored through the files soaking in information like a sponge. They didn't take long to read, but he kept changing their positions to reflect new correlations. Data swam in his head and he barely noticed when Red brought him food. He ate without thinking. When he couldn't keep his eyes open any longer he slept. When he woke there were new files on the table, and he started the process again.

Trey didn't know what he was looking for, but the unease grew in his gut. There was something wrong. He needed to find it. Another day passed mechanically. The pile of new information dissolved under his scrutiny, but the problem still didn't become clear.

"Enough for now," Red said as she shook his shoulder. "A girl can take being ignored for only so long."

"Huh?" Trey looked at her and tried to focus his eyes.

"That's the most intelligent thing you've said all day."
