Chapter 40: More Trouble, Part 2

It made sense only if they wanted resentment to boil over into open conflict. The person behind this knew about the existence of the Underground and could be trying to force it into the open. Conflict would only strengthen the government's position, maybe even lead to the loss of even more rights for the young. His unease transformed into dread. The changes were escalating.

Perhaps Molloy didn't move fast enough. Being over two hundred might make someone overly cautious. With a virtual Molloy being manipulated by someone behind the scenes, the plan could go ahead sooner.

Too soon.

Time for him to talk to Red. He went looking for her, but the Underground was deserted. Must be late at night. Trey had no idea where her room was since she usually just showed up whenever he needed her. Trey went back to his room and woke Dan.

"I need to talk to Red."

"Now?" Dan sat up.

"Now."

"This had better be important."

"It is."

"It can't wait until morning?"
