Chapter 42: Unsettling Patterns, Part 2

He saw the Japanese first. They were bowing at the chefs from the restaurant. As he watched, a Younger aide came up and muttered to him.

"They don't do that so much anymore, but they know it confuses us." Joe glanced at the aide and saw he was one of the many Youngers forming Mulholland's team. "The Chairman isn't here. Not in person. The Japanese are upset they don't get to meet one of our Eldest face to face. He was very apologetic but other concerns have him trapped, and he hoped they would get on well with the Deputy Chancellor."

Oh well, at least I'll get to eat some fake Kobe beef.

Two days later Joe watched Councilor Molloy on a large screen addressing some recipients of Life Service Awards. The day after, Councilor Molloy took part in a conference call on the issue of family ghettoes. A few days later he again appeared larger than life. Joe gave up and returned to his cave of an office.
