"Let me start with what you are not," Mulholland sighed and reached out toward Trey before pulling his hand back. "You are not a clone, a genetic enhancement, a monster, an organ bank, or anything else they might have told you. What you are is my son, but you are not just my son. Did you ever wonder who your mother was?"

The question opened a floodgate in Trey's mind. He'd never wondered about his mother. He'd suspected the woman he lived with was not his mother, but he had never questioned, even in his head who his real genetic mother was.

"What did you do to me?" He held his head to keep the thoughts from spilling out.

"Some gentle post-hypnotic suggestion. Ironically, intelligent people are more susceptible than others, not less. You were not to worry about your mother until I asked you about her.
