Chapter 67: Death Walks Among Us, Part 1

Joe walked up to the Justice Building and propped himself against the wall. Trey paced while Red and Lizzy leaned on either side of him.

"Be patient," Joe said quietly, "my secretary will open the door when it's clear."

Joe and his companions had waited for almost half an hour before it opened.

"Follow me," Devon instructed them. He led them up the stairs to Joe's office. Devon brought in extra chairs for the visitors, then brought in coffee and served it. They sat in silence as they sipped. This time it was Devon who broke the silence.

"Well, Charlene, you have grown."

"Oh Mom, you know I want to be called Red."

"I know, I know," Devon sighed. "But a mother has a problem seeing her daughter so grown up."

"I'm guessing here," Joe said, "but there must be a lot of things you aren't telling me."

"It's a long story, Joe," she said.

"It isn't like we don't have time," he replied.
