Chapter 72: New Tricks For An Old Dog

Putting the country back together was both simpler and more complicated than Joe had expected. The news of Molloy's plot had rocked the nation, and rapid changes were made to prevent a recurrence. But old habits die hard, and before long some of the elderly began to resent the incursion of younger and more boisterous people into their neighborhoods. Constant bickering between the generations was going to take more than legislation to change. The Youth Reserves were a special sticking point. Oddly, it was the youth in the Reserves who didn't want them to be closed. They wanted their education before being tossed out into the world.

Joe ensured youth sedation ceased immediately. It solved some problems and caused some new ones. The youth were more boisterous, but they were also more prepared to learn. Joe put Harry Destnir in charge of retooling the curriculum.

"Joe," Harry had said, "I hope you don't expect me to thank you."
