Chapter 43: Strange Carnivores

"Diana, stay with Sherry," I said, "Mars, call Myrtle in. We'll need all the help we can get."  I started looking for weapons. Mars returned with Myrtle and he had some stakes in his mouth. I took them from him and caressed his head.

"We guard this room and only this room," I said. "No vampire is going to get close to Sherry. Whatever it takes, whatever it costs." Mars growled and set himself in the hall to the bedrooms. Diana crouched in the door as Myrtle took over guarding Sherry.  I laid the stakes on the table and kept one in each hand.

"Come on you bloodsucking bitches," I said softly. "It's time."

My senses were on overdrive. I smelled the blood when they tore the sow apart and I heard the squeal of dying kittens. The vampires were laughing at us. They were going to destroy everything before they went after us.
